Hi there.Just got my oem speed meeter replaced.Have engine pgm fault lights on.Got misfired on high revs as well.Should I bring it to honda garrage to call on new speed meeter?

Rainy day, so I geeked out in the garage on a new project. Carrying luggage is a necessity for my commutes, and I have three Givi top boxes ranging from an E36n which simple and light with no trademark Givi fake taillights, to a V47 which is spacious and can carry everything I need for a long day or a few days, but is sort of heavy and has the fake lights and lots of trim details that don’t necessarily match the style of my “classic” bikes.

I’ve always wanted an E45, basically a larger E36 which would match its vintage, simple style but with the capacity of my biggest box. But, they’ve been out of production for a long time. I’ve searched from time to time without luck. There’s a cheap copy of it available on Alibaba and Amazon but the mounting points don’t match Givi’s Monokey (probably to avoid being sued).

One popped up on FB Marketplace and I snagged it. The owner wasn’t a motorcycle person so she didn’t ask much for it. It was beat up but not too abused, and was attached to an old Givi rack. She had no idea what bike the rack was for, but the box’s key had an old Suzuki key on the same ring and the key tag said “Red SV650”.

I disassembled the box and stripped it down to the two plastic clamshell pieces and sanded as many dings and scratches out as to not smooth out the grained finish. Cleaned it and shot it with an adhesion promoter, then matte black all-finish paint. Cleaned up the hardware and reassembled it, and gave it a red reflective pinstripe to match my E36. Black reflective tape for the outer band is on the way.

Very happy with the results.
And if anyone needs a Givi rack for an SV650, let me know…

I may have errored on the side of caution and possibly over-reacted a bit. I am prone to both when it comes to my motorcycle. Here is my situation.

In my neighborhood, every piece of ground which is not designated as a park or a memorial will eventually have a townhome built upon it. The level of construction is both astonishing and concerning, because it appears that California no longer requires contractors to cover trucks or make any effort to prevent gravel and stone from falling onto the road and taking flight. Trash and nails appear to also no longer be a concern.

Between my home and work, it appears that COSTCO is building the Mother of all COSTCOs. A steady flow of trucks and workers are ripping up the streets, installing conduit, pouring cement, and doing all things which make for a great discount shopping experience but also adds plenty of debris on the road.

At my office, the landlord has opted to install solar panels in all the parking lots which surround our building. Although I will be delighted to park underneath them, I find myself now dealing with more gravel, more sand, more debris, and more stuff which could possibly damage the oil cooler on my CB1100EX.

Despite the taxes we pay to maintain them, California highways are often less than pristine.

As I review prior posts, there is a divide amongst the brethren of the Forum. Some believe that a modest investment in a mesh oil cooler guard is reasonable when the exposure merits special consideration or the aesthetic strikes a chord with the owner. Others are astounded that someone who has the good judgment to buy a CB1100 could be lulled into waisting money on an oil cooler guard which has absolutely no value other than separating a fool from his money.

Today, I may have been foolish because I did install a R&G Oil Cooler Guard on my motorcycle. It arrived properly packed and took about 15 minutes to install. It is made of pressed aluminum, has a lovely finish, and has been customized to fit the profile of a CB1100. It reuses the bolt currently holding the oil cooler along with some foam and zip ties to secure the guard and protect the oil cooler:

I welcome your feedback on the oil cooler guard. Do you think it has some practical value? Do you like how it looks? Does it enhance or detract from the appears of a CB1100EX? Have I yet again been foolish? Or did I help protect a motorcycle from a road which can be unkind?

As anyone separated the downpipes from the centre section ?
I need to split them to get the header clamps off and can't figure out if they are just pressed together as I can't see any obvious welding.
Any pointers would be great before I bend anything.

I’ve been scouring over the old shock threads for days. Still not a ton of clarity. A lot of the comments in the forum boil down to get a shock for your riding weight and voila. I picked up a used Werks pair that were already set up in my weight range. They are fine for the most part. However sometimes I ride to work and carry my gear, and I generally like to do a long trip once a year on my cb1100, in which I hate the shocks. So I’d like something with adjustability, but still better than stock. I love the look of the ohlins, especially the piggybacks. I still can’t really tell if they are actually adjustable, or is it too technical to make those adjustments on the fly.

So, scouring for parts because basically everything else on the bike is or will be upgraded from stock, I came across these Advantage Showa shocks. My brief email with webike they gave me another website and said they are adjustable. I see knobs and dials. Not sure if that makes them easily adjustable or what they all do. Is it as easy as I think or am I missing something?

Additionally, what needs to be done with the grab bar and my rear Honda rack to accommodate? Or is the only real solution running them upside down?

Also I know sticker shock on the price, but I’ve been working 60-70 hour weeks since October so I’m throwing money at my bike to feel better.

I have a Tuono 660 Factory (more upright comfortable version of the RS 660)

Other than cosmetically- I have left stock.

Unlike the CB1100- it didn't come from the factory choked off- it's rated at 100hp stock from 660cc

I've watched while people have changed to many other exhausts for these bikes...and they only make a couple hp. No need.

I also don't like the look or sound of any of them...so not worth changing the exhaust to me. Sure they drop a few pounds.. but I can diet if I cared that much.



But then one of the Aprilia tuner shops came out with a variable intake stack kit.

One of the issues with these bikes is a dip in the mid RPM range.

This kit appears to fix that, as well as gain some power in a usable area.

Looking to fit the Givi rack and plate so I can use my givi top box. On the givi site it says for 2013 cb1100, mine is 2017 model EX. Is there any differance between the 13 and 17 model's at the back were you would fit the rails. Thought I would check before I spend my hard earned.
