Venting a little, but anyone here ever had to use AMA’s roadside assistance?

I’ve had a membership for years. Never found the magazine interesting and have never had to use the roadside assistance until today. My wife is having a procedure done and I stopped for a quick cup of coffee on the way to see her (hospital coffee bleh!)

Sure enough, got back on the Bonnie and got one slow crank and click click. A few inquiries to other motorists in the parking lot for jump cables with no luck, so I pulled out the trusty AMA card that’s been in my wallet for just such an occasion.

“We don’t provide jump starts but we can tow your bike to a service center.”

Seriously? The simplest thing imaginable and they’d rather send a flatbed tow rig?

Can’t find a reason to renew the membership.

Is there a way to access just the owners photos without scrolling through each individual post?

It spent a few weeks at the dealer, but my DLX is finally back home.

- New rear brake rotor
- New rear brake pads
- Brake and clutch fluid flush
- New rear tire
- New headlight bulb

The rear brake was warped, possibly by me but more likely by the prior owner. The rear wheel was stiff to turn and made a grinding noise. I thought it was the bearings, but that’s why I don’t wrench on my bikes beyond simple stuff like oil changes. I would have spent twice the money chasing and replacing good parts without really knowing why. Yes, I could have easily replaced the headlight bulb myself but since they already had the bike, it was just another line item on the work order.

I know, another mirror thread! They're like oil threads, too many and you can't find your answer in them! But, here's the deal. When I bought my '13 CB, it had bar-end mirrors the PO put on. Did not like them at all. Too small, too flimsy, couldn't see diddley. I got some OEM mirrors from a gentleman on this forum and mounted them, but.... They have issues, too. For one, they give a great view of my elbows with only a narrow slice of what's behind me. I want to extend them out with those mount struts, but no farther than the ends of the grips. I live in CA, where lane-splitting is legal, so I was thinking that an oblong shape would be best to put the maximum viewing area at the outside edge. Has anyone done this?

This coming June, I'll be either riding towards the Pacific, or returning back from the Seattle/Vancouver inland via Montana/Idaho/Washington. I did that part couple of years back, mostly following US 2. (Kind of 'grand tour of Cascadia', out North of the current international border and back South of it, or vice versa).

Any suggestions for stretches in that neighbourhood (other than US 2) not to miss?

2014 Dlx: Should both the LH and RH chrome, handlebar weights be securely attached to the handlebar, or should they be free to rotate? I can rotate both handlebar weights in both the clockwise and counter-clockwise directions using my hand. When I rotate them, the Philips-head mounting screws rotate with them; it feels like the entire weight assembly is rotating within the handlebar. I don't remember the weights rotating like this when the bike was new. The parts schematic shows a "Ring, Handle Weight Snap" that I think is supposed to snap into a hole in the handlebar to prevent the weight assembly from rotating within the bar - is this correct? Thanks for your replies.

Shameless plug for Mothers CMX Ceramic spray coating!

I have wanted to try a ceramic coating product since my friend had his '60 Dodge "color corrected" with a ceramic. Granted, he paid a thousand bucks, and the car looked like it had a new paint job, but I wanted to try something in a spray bottle, and picked up some of this stuff:

Played around with the spray over the weekend on the CB and the Bonneville. It made the paint on both bikes pop like crazy, especially the black Triumph. But then I tried applying it to other stuff, like the chrome and clear plastic on the dash lenses and wind screens. It made all of them look clearer. The mirrors on the CB fog easily in cold weather so I did those, and I took my oldest helmet, which has the most beat-up face shield - no deep scratches, just light scuffs.

I used the beater helmet this morning, and was very impressed with how much clearer my view was. Normally, the sunlight will grab a scuff mark and create a bit of a refraction in my field of view. Looked more like a new shield. And, my mirrors didn't fog.

The stuff isn't magic, and needs 24 hours to cure. But, you can "stack" it, building layers. I did two on the Bonnie tank, and it looks amazing.

two quick questions for my 2017 EX;

suggestions for knee pads for either side of my gas tank that actually look like they were made for the tank?

where under the seat is the ecu module located?

Looking into getting a battery tender for my bike. J&P cycles has plenty to choose from but thought I’d come here first. Anyone have any suggestions? Oh and how many volts does my 2014 dlx have?

I wish to run tubeless tires. Can I put the mag rims from a '14 dlx on a '17 ex? Based on specs they should bolt right up. Need to know for sure before I purchase new rims. Any help and/or knowledge is greatly appreciated!
