My six speed 2014 CB1100 DLX just started acting up today when getting on freeway. Came off the SoCal on ramp in 4th and ran mph up to 70 (about 500o rpm) and then shifted into 5th then 6th. However gear shift indicator is stuck on 4. Turned everything off. Started up but still show 4 no matter what gear. Refueled and reset odom hoping this might do something …. but still shows 4. Any thoughts …. I have shop manual so I will look for something there also. Cheers ….

Ha ha, I may have misunderstood the Seat Time meaning. Instead of referring to riding somewhere, I was going to talk about sitting in the garage and staring at the CB. The ambient temperature this morning is zero, with a high of about 24 today. A box of tissues helped wipe away the tears! Please send pictures of your outings to cheer me up.

My buddy just purchased said bike to get back in the saddle after quite a long hiatus from riding. He had been looking for a while and found an '03 in nearby King NC. He doesn't know much about bikes or have his license so I went with him yesterday to test ride/ride home if it was worth the $1500 asking price.

Bike was in decent shape for a 17 year old bike. Only 8325 on the clock which concerned me. The PO was a diesel mechanic and had kept it up. New plugs and oil change recently. He only ran 93 non-ethanol which had saved the carbs from gumming up. One drawback...original tires. I was not to thrilled about having to take this thing back to my house (storing it there until he does his msf course and gets it insured) at 75-80 down the highway.

In the end it all checked out and he purchased the bike. I did a short test ride to get acquainted. The levers are very far from the grips and I have small hands (so does my buddy) so that will have to be addressed. The friction point on the clutch is at the very end of the throw for the lever so it is very hard to get out of first smoothly. That can be adjusted but it may need a new clutch. I felt some slipping when I got on it for an Italian tune up. What's up with the speedo on the tank? You basically have to look at your crotch to check speed. I would not get used to that. Valve checks every 4000 miles I believe which is crazy so that will have to be done. The tires will need to be replaced and were about 15 lbs down on front and back.

On the highway home it settled in nicely at 75. No problem keeping up with traffic and still had a little more go above 80 but it got a little vibey up there. There is a little windshield that kept wind off my chest. No buffeting but the wind goes right under my helmet line which is a tad noisy. Seemed to stay fairly planted at speed over bumps. I believe once sorted he will be comfortable chewing up some miles on it.

Bottom line. Not a cruiser guy. Never have been. Never will be. I just don't feel comfortable without my legs under me. The 650 is a bit of a dog (being nice here) but if it gets my pal out on the road with me and we can do a couple camping trips this spring, good for him. I'll stick with standards and my little CBR.

Finished up last night. I haven't given in to the fact I need glasses (not my eyes it's just my arms aren't long enough) so it's not perfect but it'll do. If the enamel paint holds up it'll stay this way. If not, I will spray it black like it was originally.

Thanks to those that have done this mod and posted it up. I think it really classes up the cockpit.

Does anyone have experience with a Honda Africa Twin?

I found a really good deal on a 2016 ABS DCT red/black. I am intrigued but not sure if I am in love with the bike or just in love with a cool bargain.

It wouldn't be a replacement for by CB1100 (it's a keeper), but probably ride a while and pass it on . . . or maybe I fall for it hard??

Any feedback from Africa Twin owners/riders?

What's the saying? There are riders who have crashed, and riders who are going to crash?

Guess my number just got called, but if this is the one that pushed me over the "have crashed" line, I guess I'll take it.

Riding the Bonneville to work, and a block before the office, a lady turned left in front of me into her office parking lot. She saw me, hesitated, and then gunned it and tried to make her turn in front of me. I started emergency braking, then, of course, she panicked and stopped right in front of me.

I could see that we were going to hit, but I looked down at the two RLETs on my levers, which I was now squeezing with all of my might, and they gave me the power to stop even harder. At least I had slowed significantly.

Luckily, if we were going to hit, I hit her in the best spot. My front wheel went into the gap between her front wheel and fender. So, the bike wedged and stayed up. Lunched my front fender, scuffed up my forks.

I talked to the lady, she said "I saw you, why didn't you stop?" Really? Having been an insurance investigator, I figured the best thing was to take a bunch of photos before moving anything. One driver who was next to me before the accident circled back and gave me his info, saying "I saw everything".

The whole thing was pretty minor, but a good Samaritan called 911, and as I was parking my bike, was insisting that I lay down. I thanked him but said it wasn't necessary. Soon, a phalanx of two fire trucks, an ambulance, and three police cars showed up. Great.

The firetrucks and ambulance got a thumbs up from me, and kept rolling, while the police took our stories and information.

I pulled what was left of my front fender off of the wheel, and rode the final block to work. I rotated the bars forward in the clamps, and the bike pulled to the right a bit as I rode. Maybe tweaked the forks in the clamps, hopefully that's it as far as structural damage.

We'll see how insurance shakes out, I immediately filed a claim with her carrier.

I'm torn about the RLETS on the Triumph now.. they either just saved my life, or created the bad juju that made that lady want to turn in front of me, then panic stop. Hm...

Any suggestions on rear signal relocation kit? I removed my stock ones and mounted aftermarket led's to my top box so I can put my soft bags where I want them.
I would prefer a more finished look.
Samurider has been sold out. I think I read GIVI has some as part of a side case kit, but haven't seen them for sale.
Any ideas? Thanks!
