  New Katana
Posted by: Gone in 60 - 02-09-2020, 05:00 AM - Forum: Other Bikes - Replies (8)

Perusing the last issue of MCN, the new Katana is on the cover with a comprehensive article. I was playing hunter-gatherer yesterday for my wife, who is convalescing from surgery. Since I haven’t been able to get out lately and was relishing a sliver of freedom, I treated myself to a visit to the local dealer to see if they had a Katana to take a look at.

They had two, one silver and one black. I was drawn to the silver, which looked stunning. The salesman steadied the bike for me so I could put both feet up. The position is quite upright and comfortable. As many bikes do these days it features a large appendage that wraps around the rear tire to form a fender/license/turn signal mount. The presumption is that the buyer will quickly discard this chunk, but I like the look of it.

Styling is a nice departure from the insectoid look of modern sport bikes, a nod to the original with several cues from the old version, but modernized without ruining the package. I put it on my short list of “I want this” machines. Alas, with all fees attached (about $2400) their asking price is $16.5k. Ouch.

A row of new Z900RS caught my eye on the way out. Still a fantastic looking bike and quite a bit less money.

By Johnny of Johnny's Vintage Motorcycles.

The guy brought his bike in in boxes but that didn't even slow down Johnny's crew.

When I got home my wife said (excitedly) "Was that fun? Bet that was fun. Wish I had been with you"!

That's my girl!

  Motorcycle Consumer News is dead
Posted by: LongRanger_imp - 02-05-2020, 05:27 AM - Forum: Motorcycling - General - Replies (27)

Can't say I'm surprised given how quickly the magazine went downhill after Dave Searle left a few years ago. The next editor was lame and the publication suffered greatly as a result, IMO. After being a loyal subscriber for over two decades, I let my subscription lapse following Dave's departure. Sorry to lose yet another motorcycle magazine, especially one as superior as MCN used to be, but that's the world we live in. They didn't accept advertising and I guess their readership declined to an unsustainable level.

  Interesting Gold Wing Trike Conversion
Posted by: The A-man - 02-05-2020, 04:39 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (11)

Hey guys, I'm down in Ft. Myers, helping the daughter recover from foot surgery. Went out to get lunch today, and saw this very interesting GW trike conversion. Had to do a double take, as I've never seen one before. Just thought I'd share.

  1982 Honda goldwing 1100i
Posted by: NickLHG_imp - 02-05-2020, 02:25 AM - Forum: Other Bikes - Replies (3)

I’ve been posting around the web and on Facebook groups trying to get rid of my gl1100i. Bought it a little too fast and realized that the bike sadly wasn’t for me even though I love the look.. Really should’ve gone for the 78-79 wing. So my question to you all is..
with a blown head gasket and possibly needing a new starter. Is 1800.00 a reasonable price for my wing? I have the gasket and plan to change it when it’s warmer. Bought the bike for 2200.00

This is what I’ve been posting around.
Looking to sell my 1982 Honda goldwing with 38,000 miles on it. Needs a head gasket change which I have but it’s far too cold to do it this time of year. Possibility of a starter too as it turns over but doesn’t start.
Got a new battery as of 8/2019.
Fairing is partially off but I have it all.

Thoughts comments questions concerns? Currently living in Illinois if anyone knows anyone that’s interested. Thanks guys!

Enjoyed a bit of winter sunshine this morning. Loving this bike so far (although I'd like some heated grips!).

  Easier Pull Clutch? 2013 CB1100
Posted by: Jeeves_imp - 02-04-2020, 01:09 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (10)

Don't judge me, LOL!!! I have some physical limitations with nerve damage in my left index finger, but still want to ride. Has anyone removed, say, 2 springs/bolts off the clutch mechanism to reduce the strength required to pull the clutch lever? I've been searching madly for some sort of reduction in the pull strength required, and seeing this as an option that some motocross riders employ on their bikes.

Also looking at Clake clutch handles, but they don't appear to be an exact fit.

Ultimately may wind up going with a DCT bike, but until then...

Thanks...
