I was placing the registration tag on the plate of my CB1100 today and looking over the dates on the registration paperwork I was reminded that I've now owned my CB for eight years. That's right, eight years ago today I picked it up from the dealership and headed off for home in rush hour traffic, in the middle of a downpour. I was drenched when I stopped back in at my workplace before I could continue on home, but I didn't really notice. My buddy Tommy, the security guard at the time at my workplace was the first person I knew to lay eyes on the bike (other than my wife, who drove me out to the dealership to pick up the bike — it was nice outside when we first arrived at the dealer). I got it all cleaned up as soon as I got it home and decided that despite the weather, it was still a great day. I have never been so excited by a purchase before or since — I almost got sick sitting in the office at the dealership filling out the paperwork.

Back when these bikes were new here in the States, people especially liked to compare notes about what kind of price they got. I paid $9,999 out the door and personally, I was just fine with paying MSRP because I imagined that I'd be hanging on to the bike for a long time. Thee would be no motorcycle merry-go-round for me. Continuing to divide the initial cost by each subsequent year that I've owned the bike, the price paid is looking better and better all the time. Honda (or any other manufacturer for that matter) has yet to manufacture a motorcycle that I'd personally rather have than this one. I have a hard time imagining that ever changing.

Does anyone know how many extra watts of accessories the CB1100 can handle? I have a 2016 CB1100.

Okay, so I have 100 miles on my 2014 CB1100. It had 6500 when I bought it.
How does the bike fit me ? I like the footpeg position. I did have to adjust the shifter lever a bit as it didnt allow my boot to fit under, but that was easy fix. The seat actually feels pretty good..for a stock seat. Maybe that will change as I ride longer, but I have definitely seen worse. Handlebars are just a little low for my liking. Might have to check into bar risers . This forum will help me review options there.
I really like the sound of the bike with the stock pipe. It sounds smooth and has ust enough volume to suit me. The bike is a little heavy to push around, but not excessive.
On to the ride. Engine is very smooth. I dont feel a lot of vibration. Bike is easy to steer and corners well. It actually feels small as I ride and the weight I noticed when pushing it around has vanished. Clutch and gears are extremely smooth, just as I have come to expect from Honda. I have not really pushed the bike yet, but I feel like there is more than enough power there to keep me satisfied. I will be looking into a windscreen of some sort.
Finally, when I pulled into a gas station 2 minutes into my 1st ride, a guy walked by and said....love the looks of that bike. I have to agree. The fit and finish of my 7 year old bike is still showroom new. I love the retro look. I am excited to really get to know the bike and continue to read more from the folks here who have some years and many miles of experience with the CB 1100.

I have to torque up the four handlebar bolts but don't know the correct torque value. Since it's steel in in alloy and fairly critical to get right I wonder if any of you guys with the Honda workshop manual could help me out - what's the stated torque value? (I've ordered the Honda workshop manual but not got it yet). I'm not really keen on using a generic value for the bolt size. Any help much appreciated.

Perfect, no air loss

If you are not mad on fork gaiters but want to protect your fork stanchions an alternative is to use a fork protector. I had a new pair lying around which I purchased in error and decided to see if they would fit the CB. Turns out they fit exactly so here they are on my 2017MY EX. I do like the look of gaiters, but these will do me for now and it takes two minutes to put them on, the forks don’t have to come off to install.

These were used on Triumph bikes from the mid 90’s but they still sell them new. Part number A9641010 which is a set of two with the nut and bolt. Lowest price I have seen them is £20 on ebay and up to £44 orderable by a Triumph dealer. For those with an eye you can see this is a pair of identical units, so the nut and bolt are the same side on each so one side you see the bolt head and the other you see the nut end.

What do you think? I'll run with them for now, I quite like the effect and they should go some way to protecting crud getting past the dust seal to the fork seals.

Saw a press release on a joint venture between Honda and Moto Guzzi to build a propane powered motorcycle. Apparently it will exceed any foreseeable euro standards and you can replace the fuel cell at Dollar General or anywhere else that sells refillable propane tanks.
Dubbed the Progresso, the 900cc V-4 will first appear as a sport touring model to debut in Spain later this Spring.

I was thinking I wouldn't mind if my 2017MY EX engine was non-painted like that of Alfgaxaticos (shown in this post) and the newer 2019/20 MY EX.

I gave it a wash yesterday and noticed another patch of silver paint peeling off around the valve cover at the front. It is already pretty patchy underneath. For a bike that is just three years old and not quite 9.5K Km on the clock that is a pretty poor.

How is anyone else faring in that department?

Immediate Stop Ride due to Valve Stem Cap: All BMW Models since 1923.

An urgent safety recall affecting ALL past and present BMW motorcycle models currently in use was announced April 1, 2021. This recall also mandates an official Stop Sale affecting all current unsold BMW motorcycle inventory, ALL models.

The recall is related to VALVE STEM CAPS on both front and rear wheels, with either tubeless or tube-type tires mounted. It has recently been discovered that a 0.002 mm thread pitch discrepancy between valve stems and valve stem caps installed on all BMW motorcycles manufactured since 1923 can lead to a potentially hazardous valve stem cap overheating condition. Overheated valve stem caps, caused by friction resulting from high frequency vibrations, can self-loosen and eventually fly off. This condition is considered a ROAD HAZARD because an overheated valve stem cap when airborne at highway speed can become a dangerous projectile! Additionally, the resulting valve stem core exposure due to the absence of a valve stem cap is a potential HEALTH RISK. Trapped road dirt and bacteria inside the valve stem core can become activated by slow leakage of compressed HOT AIR from within the tire, then released into the atmosphere where it can be inadvertently inhaled, leading to respiratory distress.

This official announcement, states that this critical thread pitch discrepancy (blamed on a subcontracted manufacturer’s production error) has now been ascertained to be the cause of the vast majority of missing valve stem caps reported in registered complaints to BMW Motorrad through its authorized dealers for the last ninety-plus years.

REQUIRED ACTION!

Step ONE: Owners must immediately inspect both front and rear wheels to confirm Valve Stem Caps are still in place. DO NOT RIDE until this inspection is done!
Step TWO: Motorcycles affected (those with missing Valve Stem Caps) should be brought (not ridden!) to authorized BMW Motorrad dealers immediately for further inspection and a professional diagnosis by certified BMW technicians. If necessary to install replacement parts under warranty, the parts for this campaign are expected to be available January 2031, along with a service bulletin and repair instructions. Important: DO NOT RIDE until authorized replacement valve stem caps are installed!
