2014 CB1100 - rotational vibration/wobble - flat spots in tires? - rozbabbo1100_imp - 08-03-2022
Evening, when riding I feel a "mild thud" in the pegs and seat. This vibration doesn't go away with engine tension or when you pull the clutch in. Around 40 mph is the sweet spot for feeling it.
Additionally when I stand on the pegs while riding and look over the front fender there is a slight front end wobble under declaration but nothing to the point of tank slapping.
The bike sat most of last year. The tires are not stock. Could I be feeling flat spots in the tires? I dont see anything on the treads personally. I have put on about 1000 miles this year and would assume by now with the hot humid western NY weather the flat spots, if any, would have worked themselves out...I could be wrong.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated

Tire pressure? Miles on tire? If you can visually see the front tire wobbling then obviously there is a problem. I would replace the front tire with a new one and have it balanced.

So I don't see the rim and tire wobbling but the front fender and bike wobbling on deceleration. At slow speeds where you would feel it the most you don't feel or see it. Only aboit 30 moh and higher.
Rear tire probably has aboit 2500 miles on it. Front tire might have 1500 miles on it. Tons of tread left and never had a puncture.
Bike itself only has about 9k miles on it.

Sorry, I keep the tire pressure around 32-35 or so

My CB1100 developed a very minor vibration when the original tire had about 3,000 miles on it. You might call this a wobble, because I felt shaking through the handlebars. Also, I only felt it at a certain speed, around 35 mph if I remember correctly. This original tire wore oddly too. The wobble went away immediately when I replaced the tire, and it has never returned.

Going with Dave's advice and normally inflating both tires over 35 to 40 psi.
To isolate the effect you could let some air out of one tire and see if it makes a difference and narrow the effect down to one of the wheels.
Then a centerstand would help to find any small irregularities in the circumference of the tire with the aid of a block with a small gap close to the thread, the "cadence" of tires does manifest itself around the speed you mentioned and i found going faster than that speed and letting the bike slow down past this speed with a loose grip on the handles and watch what happens on a smooth road.
It can be either wheel, i have had a "bounce" from the rear wheel and one from the front wheel, both very subtle.
Maybe also check the swingarm bearings and bolt play, the nut under the chrome cover has been known to "disconnect" from the bolt on very rear occasions and stays captive inside under the chrome covers which have a small slot for a screwdriver for inspection.

Any play in the headstock bearing? Grab a handful of front brake and push heavily forward/backwards to feel any obvious play. It is a longshot as they should be fine with such low mileage.
Check brake calipers are firm and secure and torqued up properly
Have a look at your user manual for the correct procedure for refitting the front wheel. There is a particular procedure in place for tightening it all back up without getting it all out of shape. You need to take the bike off the centre stand for a short while to pump the forks and get it all aligned.

mine had a lot of play in the head bearings 500 mile check and the dealer before i bought it did not check it i was surprised how much play it had when i checked mine
