I just bought my bike out of state and good thing I didn't have to get to my battery on the trip back. Today I did 600 mile check and wanted to check battery posts. The screw that holds the storage box was cross threaded big time, it took great effort just to turn that puppy (I'm a retired aircraft tech so I know my way around a tool box)..............needless to say the anchor nut broke free and the screw just spun. What a hassle trying to drill the screw head off when it spins and not much room to vise grip it. It turned out ugly and basically had to work on the box around the screw to release it...........no big deal, I can find ways to secure it but it just pisses me off the quality of work you get nowadays. The dude that did this had to really torque on the screw to seat it all the way, he knew he cross threaded it.
About a year and a half ago I bought a new Super Tenere and at 600 miles required final drive fluid change, pulled the drain plug and only a few drops came out (long story short, got the dealer to tear it down for inspection)..........and it doesn't end there, about a month after this I was checking front tire pressure and noticed both pinch bolts on the axle were backed out several turns.
The moral of the story, when you do that first inspection really check Everything cause that make ready guy doesn't know sh**.

Truer words have never been spoken, my hand brake switch wasn't connected so I have been riding a new bike with only the foot brake, which I hardly use.

And I forgot to mention when I drained the oil about 4.25 quarts came out..........I guess my bike is making oil....................

That's the same reason I like to do my own oil changes when I can. The last time I took my car to a garage to have the oil changed, the high school drop-out forgot to tighten the plug. Good thing I was suspicious enough to check it. I'm also quite certain motorcycle dealers don't have their top mechanics assembling motorcycles.

My tool tray phillips screw was really tight as well, and required an impact driver to loosen. Luckily I had one in my tool box. Its only a tool tray and doesn't need to be that tight. Even if the screw fell out, it would just drop into the tray and the tray doesn't have anywhere to go. Besides the push pin will hold it in, even without the screw

Had to use a pair of pliers on the head of screwdriver to get mine out, otherwise it would have stripped for sure.

The Phillips head type screws on Japanese bikes come out much easier by using a JIS screw driver.Get a set with #1,#2 and #3 and you be a lot happier.

Couple years ago I bought a brand new Harley Sportster with about a quart of oil in it. Rode it about 20 miles and thought the valves noisy. Checked and almost no oil. Didn't keep that one long so don't know if there was damage but I called Harley and they said not to worry but did put a "note" in the records on that bike if trouble down the road.
Like all else can't be careful enough.
