  KNOCKING SOUND - HELP!!!
Posted by: silascopathic_imp - 11-17-2013, 06:35 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (12)

Hey friends,

so this morning i spent 3 hours trying to troubleshoot this knocking sound coming from my front wheel.

I have narrowed it down to the wheel bearings or the wheel balance.

i will hear a constant cyclical knocking sound in neutral, in gear, when the bike is on or off. I removed the calipers from the rotors and the sound is still there.
I removed the front fender and the sound persists.

I removed the wheel and the forks and reinstalled per the instructions in the service manual.

First i did the forks and tested. The issue persists. Then i removed the wheel, the gaskets and the bearings and the middle tube thing. I put them all back in correctly and took the bike for a ride. The sound was GONE!

I went out for a ride and 10 min in, the sound came back.

Here is what I am thinking

When I originally had my wheel powder coated, i did not replace the bearings (even though the service manual says to) because the bike was under 1000 miles. I recently had my front wheel balanced and the guy stated that it didn't need weights. He just re aligned the tire dot with the stem valve.

The sound is getting progressively worse.

Do you think I should get new bearings and take the wheel back for another balance?

I am not sure if this is doing damage to the wheel, but I am not riding it until its repaired

I need all of your expertise.

please help a brother out!

Thanks

Shad 37 Top Case/ Honda Rear Carrier
Posted by: Gingersdaddy_imp - 11-17-2013, 05:22 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (18)

I installed this top case a few weeks ago and wanted to post some pictures for everyone. The Shad 37 will hold one helmet and a few other items. I can get my helmet and light weight coat in it, but my tourmaster coat with armor will not fit.

Here is the base mounted to the Honda rear carrier.

The mounting holes on the rear carrier did not match the holes in the bracket so I squared it up where I wanted it and drilled though the plastic bracket to match the holes in the carrier. the mounting hardware supplied is not stainless so I'm going the replace the bolts later, make sure you use nylon lock nuts.

The view from the rear. The case locks into the bracket pretty good and tight. The case has a open area right above the opening lever that you can carry the top case around by. I was originally going to go with a black milk create, but just could not do it and spent some money on the case. When it is locked, it is locked to the bracket and the lid is locked. Keep it locked even if its empty or you might come out and find it gone.

I like the CB1100 without anything on it, but need to be able to lock some things up and the Shad Top Case works great for me.
My first time posting pictures, hope they are viewable.

  White House Test Rides

Takashi takes the K10 & the Hakofugu on test rides. He apparently gets mobbed by admirers of these bikes in the process.

We're considering buying a CB 11, but I'd like hard bags. I notice the factory mounts, but there's not a lot of info about luggage. Also want windshield and back rest, and want everything detachable. Of course, I love the classic looks. I'm just thinking about the occasional weekender with my wife. Any help?

Any recommendations on a tank pad for the sides of the tank? I've notices faint rub marks. Probably from my jeans. Stomp Grip makes some, but there are little nubs that stick out. Wanted something smooth. Maybe a film? help

  New Air Filter
Posted by: Darpo_imp - 11-16-2013, 08:17 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (16)

Hey Gang-
Picked up the K&N air filter and it's breathing nice. Wasn't sure what to expect but, the throttle response feels very precise w/ a little extra zip. I'm also going with the Amsoil 30 full synthetic and am enjoying that too. Been averaging low 42-45 per gallon twistn that throttle. Nothing crazy, but thought I'd share my experience. I have close to 5000 miles so tires are eventually next. Any reco's? Stay hyper alert out there.

  Riding is believing

Just got in from a one hour curvy road ride. We had snow the other day, but it has long since melted, and any salt they put down was washed away by yesterdays rain. Streets still had some damp spots, but at 61 degrees in mid November you just have to get out for a ride. Stopped by my dealer and asked the owner if he had any word on the 2014 CB1100's..NOPE. Also no news on any changes or updating to the ST 1300. Says he is usually the last to know anything (I know I'm the one that told him the CB 1100 was finally coming to the states... 2 weeks before Honda told him)

The weather was overcast and kinda crappy, roads a little damp in places, but using the torque of the CB 1100 to pull you out of a turn and shoot you down the straight towards the next curve is just a pleasure. Love this bike. Biker

I've been following [url=http://churchofchoppers.blogspot.com]Chvrch of Choppers on Instagram for awhile now. They've been working on a CB11 for a few months and continually post teaser photos of parts of the bike they are working on. This is the most complete bike photo they've posted so far. This was a week ago. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Some of the mods: Over Racing swing arm (same as ack's), Moriwaki black full exhaust, Hyperpro shocks, powder coated wheels, titanium handlebars, black fenders, twin filler, new tail light, and more...
