Finally sat on a CB1100--foot controls?
Posted by: Nark_imp - 11-05-2013, 11:03 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (29)

Finally got to sit on a CB1100 today and I loved it. I did notice that the foot controls seemed a little cramped for me, even though I'm only 5'10. Has anyone moved them forward a little or put any aftermarket, adjustable foot controls on?

Also, since I'm looking for a black one, I've contacted about 12 dealerships in the Northeast and none can give me a definitive answer on the bike's return or in what colors. They all want to buy red and get it painted now.

I thought these dealers would be able to get better intel from Honda.

  Shocks strut different length
Posted by: CB750TOM_imp - 11-05-2013, 10:19 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (14)

I installed a new Dayton Cozy seat today and noticed that the right side of the seat rested on the outside end of the right shock. The left side of the seat sits on the inside of the top of the left shock. After wiggling the seat for longer than I care to admit, I noticed that the right shock strut is shorter than the left side. This allows for the difference in how the seat rests on the shocks. So, if I can help anyone else avoid a trip down OCD lane I am happy to share this with you guys.Big Grin

  Stolen bike return
Posted by: dailyrider_imp - 11-05-2013, 10:10 AM - Forum: Other Bikes - Replies (10)

Just listening to NPR. A guy in Nebraska had his 1953 Triumph Tiger stolen in 1957. It was just found in a shipping container on the west coast about to be shipped to Japan. It was found by an FBI agent investigating vehicle theft and export. He ran the numbers which showed it was stolen, called the police department in Nebraska that filed the report. They still had the report on file and contacted the owner who is now in his 70's and still rides. He is excited to get his bike back

  Do I have ABS
Posted by: tomewing_imp - 11-05-2013, 07:43 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

I just picked up a beautiful CB1100. Got it used with a thousand miles on it at a HD Dealer! Quick question. The tag say CB1100A21. Looks like it has ABS. How do I know?

Thanks in advance.

Best Wishes,
Tom Ewing

  Argument
Posted by: ThomWill_imp - 11-05-2013, 02:04 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Yesterday on my way home from work, I came upon a water-main repair crew. As I sat at the long light with my feet in the shallow water, trying to see if there were any holes, or rocks in the water ahead of me, I could see two workers in their white tyvek suits waving at me and having an argument. One of them threw down his shovel and walked over to me and yelled: "What year is that thing?" I yelled back "2013". He turned around and laughed at the other guy then looked at me and said "I told him it was new! That is super sharp, I am getting me one!" :-D Thanks

  First Gear heated jacket liner
Posted by: the Ferret - 11-04-2013, 08:00 AM - Forum: Riding Gear - Replies (15)

Ok today I went ahead and bit the bullet buying my first heated gear. Rode out to Sportour in Cinti and they had a good display of the First Gear aka Warm n Safe heated gear. I looked at jacket liners, gloves, and glove liners. They had a nice set up for testing and I tried on a jacket liner first. They plugged me in and man did it heat up nicely. Then I tried the gloves, and although they also heated up nicely, it was a real cluster f to get them tucked either into or over my riding coat. Then I tried the glove liners, again nice heat, but I couldn't get my regular riding gloves on over them.

So... I bought the jacket liner, a dual controller ( in case I do buy gloves or liners or pants in the future) and an adapter that runs from the controller to the battery tender plug on my bike.

All totaled it ran just under $ 300

Will have to wait until a nice frosty day for a ride report as this week we are in the 50s to 60s, and the electrics aren't needed in that range.

  CTX1300
Posted by: bubblerboy64_imp - 11-04-2013, 05:54 AM - Forum: Other Bikes - Replies (79)

If you go to the Honda Power Sports web page they have released information concerning the new CTX1300. Looks like an interesting motorcycle and one that I might consider owning.

It's most direct competition will be the F6B or so it would appear to me.

I find the Wing and the F6B just a bit more then I need and I am hoping the CTX1300 is just right.

I did ride a CTX700 and liked it a lot but I think I would like just a bit more. This 1300 could be the middle ground I am looking for. Probably will not see one until spring.

Money will be a critical part of the this. That's not discussed as yet which I always wonder about. Have they not decided or what? Have to ask you can't afford it? Or are they taking suggestions?

  Any here know of this?

I was too late to check this out, unfortunately.
On Sunday my son showed me an ad on Craig's List for an estate auction in Kaiser, WV that advertised 400 vintage Hondas! Supposedly all were kept inside over the years and not exposed to the elements.
I really would have liked to have made it over as the wife was out of town and who knows what trouble I could have gotten into.Cool
Sounds like somebody had a fair amount of storage space
