US '13 Black Engine Finish Flaking Off!!
Posted by: grover_imp - 05-10-2014, 05:58 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (30)

Hey guys, I found something really disturbing - it appears the black (powder coated? PVD?) finish on the engine of my CB has started flaking off in a small area between a couple of cooling fins.

The bike was purchased on May 11, 2013, and the original owner opted for the extended warranty. I took the bike to the local dealer, the service manager took a couple of pics and sent it off to his Dealer Service Manager to see what Honda will do about it. He said he was trying to set my expectations low, that the DSM was likely to say it was damage caused by a rock chip, but I pointed out to him that there was no pitting or otherwise evidence of impact to suggest that was the case.

I've got to say, I'm pretty bummed by this. I absolutely love the bike and I've been a longtime fan of Honda products (my cager is an S2000 Smile ), but if this doesn't get resolved it's really going to put a damper on my perception of Honda, or at least their US dealer network.

I'll keep you guys posted on what I hear, but I'd suggest you give your own bikes a good look over.

Today’s ride. The rear rack and sissy bar where removed since my wife will be unable to ride for 5 or 6 weeks. Looks a lot better.

  Aftermarket handlebar?
Posted by: dave - 05-10-2014, 12:59 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (7)

Has anyone installed a slightly lower, aftermarket handlebar? By "slightly lower" I mean about one inch. I would like to install a small fairing to make highway cruising more enjoyable, (I am seriously considering the Dart) and am wondering if lowering the handlebars slightly would help. I do not want to do anything drastic that would distract from the bike's natural beauty (I like the stock look). Your replies are appreciated, and any pictures are greatly appreciated.

  Gas Mileage?
Posted by: Gingersdaddy_imp - 05-09-2014, 10:34 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (210)

Checked my gas mileage again over the last couple of refuels. I don't check every tank and not really that concerned about it, but just wanted to share. I'm at only 42 mpg. I do not consider myself to be a speed demon and I don't see how some of you are redline shift this thing, she's got so much torque I never get past 5 or 6 grand even when I'm feeling wild. I feel like I'm hot-dogging it when I'm making my shifts between 3 and 4 grand. I am a rather large fellow and on freeway I feel like a parachute so maybe those factors are effecting my mpg. Not complaining, still love my CB. Good weather this week allowed me to commute to work three days this week, it was great! Smile

  am I overthinking this?
Posted by: 12cb96vfr_imp - 05-09-2014, 08:50 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (20)

Hey guys, I'm extremely anal when it comes to anything bike related but I'm wondering if I'm being too paranoid about this.

I've read some other posts but I'm curious what you all think.
I did my first oil change and put in 4qt, now it's reading high. Do I drain some out, our let it go as is?

I've always heard too much oil is worse than too little, but I only put in 4qt so how much can possibly be in there? I could see if I added 5qt by mistake or something like that.

What do y'all think? Drain some out, or rock n roll? The site glass is completely full btw, I took it on a 3 mile ride (it was fully warmed up), then checked it when I got home on level ground on the centerstand.

Got my ECU back from Don 2 day service! It's raining here so I put on center stand and let her rip! 6th gear pegged speedo out 130mph about 8k RPMS Smile [Image: 560f6c3abbfdba9d4fbf90c179eaa708.jpg]

Really about 7,800 RPM SPEEDO PEGGED OUT can't wait to ride it. Told him I was leaving my bike stock pipes , air filter etc. He just did the timing thru the lower gears. He did not do anything to the fuel ratio. He said my mileage should go up due to advance timing! WOT is still set at factory. No speed limiter! 500rpms increase Smile Will let everyone know how it runs. I might not can even feel any difference with just seat of pants!

  Maximum Range
Posted by: MrTim_imp - 05-09-2014, 04:36 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (42)

So I thought that due to the pretty average fuel gauge our dear CB's have been blessed with that it would be helpful to discuss the maximum distance that we've gone on our respective tanks.
Going 120kph on the highway I've done a touch over 200km on my '11, by this stage the gauge has been on the last bar and flashing red for some time. I have a feeling that I could go a bit further but of course the flashing gauge gets me nervous and I pull in to fill up.
What are your experiences?
