WITH STAINTUNE MUFFLER ,IS PAINT ON OIL COOLER IS WRINKLING
AS IF IT HAS BEEN PAINTED IN CRINKLE PAINT (OVERHEATING) OR
POOR PAINT QUALITY,WOULD BE INTERESTED IF ANY OTHER OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS CONCERN.
AFTER READING ALL THE POSTS ,YOU GUYS SOUND LIKE THE TYPE
ENTHUSIASTS I WOULD LOVE TO RIDE WITH , PITY YA LIVE SO FAR AWAY.

Picked up a new 14 std yesterday; and yes, RLETs ordered before I even left the dealership.



Ergonomics are without a doubt the most comfortable out of any bike I've ridden. I was extremely comfortable operating it and pushing its limits right away, versus other bikes that feel awkward at first until you get used to it. It's hard to put into words, but it felt like I've ridden this bike my whole life (for reference, I'm coming from a Suzuki Boulevard cruiser). The only thing that was unfamiliar was the turn signal button position. I hit the horn a few times on accident instead

One thing that surprised me (in a good way) was the wind on the highway. For a fairing-less bike, it handles the air pretty well. I wasn't being pushed around by the wind like I have with other bikes. I'm considering a Road Comet or Dart Marlin in the future, so I'm interested to see how much the aerodynamics can improve even though I feel it's exceptional as is.

Also on the highway, the 6th gear... I'm not sure about this one... I don't go fast while riding; often spirited, but I don't go much over the speed limits. While on the highway, I didn't really feel that 6th was necessary. To be honest, it feels like overkill for highway cruising. It seems like something Honda threw in so they could say, "Hey, it gets 2mpg more than the 13' model on the highway! We improved it!" I almost want to see if switching it out for a 5-speed is possible so I could shift less, or at least change some of the gear sizes.

There was one thing that I had to change ASAP after riding for a little bit: the stock muffler. It's simply too quiet for my liking. I placed an order for a Yoshi slip-on this morning.

Twisty roads were a lot of fun; more fun than I was expecting. I'm surprised with how much lean you can achieve without dragging something. She's no supersport on turns, but impressive nonetheless.

Brakes: good. Clutch: no complaints there! Mirrors: not sure if I like them. For big "Mickey Mouse ears" mirrors, they're not very wide, so I find myself leaning to see around my body. I might switch them out for something wider, or maybe bar-ends with a lower bar.

Heat: no problem at all while riding, but it does rise up quickly while stopped. All-around, the heat is definitely better than a lot of other bikes. I think it will keep my legs at a perfect temperature when it gets a little cooler out.

I remember seeing a thread on here about spirited riding over like 4.5k rpms being pointless, and I would definitely agree now that I've gone hands-on for a little bit. I can't wait to open her up with the slip-on, improved air flow, and a power commander.

Have our CBs been known for pinging? I'm hearing what sounds like pinging, when accelerating right off the throttle, in any gear, but not quite like the pinging I'm used to from my Harley days. Read somewhere here about fuel injectors noise. Do they sound like that? Is it just load on the valve train? It's not overly loud or anything, but I'm curious.

One of my Guzzi buddies showed me this and a mutual buddy that was corrupting him - and it got rubbed off on me so now I'm doing it too.

Long story short, you take a UHF radio (2 meter) that has GPS built in or attached, a modem or TNC, and account on APRS then your radio can send out beacons that can then be picked up by APRS stations and the info passed on to the website mentioned above and folks can track your progress. Pretty much in real time.

For the wide open Arizona we have had to add power amps to up the 5 watts broadcast power to 45 watts to reach far flung APRS stations; otherwise it works pretty good. I tested my setup (sans amp) with the pickup this past weekend.

The bike kit is being assembled; I've had to order a top case (I bought a Kenwood TH-D72A handi-talky, GPS and TNC built in, but she is not water proof, just water resistant; the Yaesu vx-8dr is water proof but has a less robust GPS and no TNC - classic trade offs).

We have a Guzzi Rally in Datil New Mexico so the three of us are getting our APRS setups built for this rally. Once done I should be able to transfer it to the CB1100 with little difficulty (I think the stator has enough poop to run it!).

You guys may be more familiar with Spot (https://www.findmespot.com/en/index.php?cid=101) or the DeLorme InReach (http://www.inreachdelorme.com) system for contacts with the outside world, especially for emergencies. APRS is a third way; which may or may not make more sense depending upon your needs and wants. As I get into this a bit deeper I wonder if the other systems wouldn't have been cheaper!

So if there is interest I'll post up the completed kit in a week or so (closer to "or so" ).

I have more photos if interested. I thought it an alternative to the whitehouse k10 tank for sale at samurider (plus having to purchase the k10 seat) at about a grand less than the price.

I have been a one motorcycle guy for a few months and I was thinking of giving the CB a friend to chat with in the garage. I was thinking vtwin sportish bike. I would love to have another Duc Super Sport, but it's too cramped for height (both legs and torso). Anyone had a Super Hawk? They have a longer wheel base and I understand they make good power. They can be found for ~$2800 or so which is right around my 2nd bike budget.

A few days ago JRNS here on the forum put up a Honda CB1100 OEM rear luggage rack for sale.
I was on the fence about getting one, but leaning strongly that way so leaped at the chance to get one from a forum member and one so close to home.
I installed it today and it looks great!!!
I printed the tutorial by Pterodactyl and followed it to the letter since no instructions were included.
I want to publicly and personally thank Pterodactyl for posting the tutorial. Without it I'm sure I would have been lost

Hi everyone!
Pretty new to the CB1100 world; just bought a used 2014 DLX a few weeks ago and only have only ridden few hundred miles on it so far, backroads and freeways mostly. As much as it kills me, my lovely Bonnie which I just toured the U.S. on (9 weeks / 10,000 miles, see http://www.karlvandervelden.com) is for sale as I type this; I simply don't have the room in my garage or finances to keep both.
Just thought I'd share some early observations, and perhaps some of you can comment or offer advice:
First thing I noticed when riding the bike home on the interstate was a very strange random wind pressure effect that I've never experienced on the Bonnie (or any other bike for that matter). It felt like my legs, upper body and especially my helmet were being randomly but strongly pushed and pulled back and forth...which consequently was affecting my lane position a fair amount as well (Other drivers may well have thought I was riding drunk!) Granted, it was a bit windy, but I've had similar conditions with the Bonnie -- equipped only with an OEM flyscreen -- and other bikes and I've never in my life encountered anything remotely like that. And it wasn't just a one time thing -- I've had the CB out a few more times since then, and at speed (anything over 60 or so), I really need to pinch the tank with my knees, lean forward a fair amount and keep my chin tucked just to keep everything smooth and steady. The only thing I can think of is that the CB tank clearly displaces more air than the Bonnie tank, so maybe there's a bit more of a pressure bubble there shoving me around...? I have a Comet on order from Samurider, hoping this will help somewhat? Maybe I need to gain some weight? (hahaha)
Second thing...compared to the Bonnie ergos, I'm feeling more pressure on my palms and wrists. Grip Puppies took care of the palms, but I'm still feeling more weight on my wrists than I remember with the Bonnie. I'm going to give myself time to get used to it, but if all else fails I may look into pullback/riser options.
Aside from those two details, oh my god the CB simply outclasses and outperforms the Bonnie in every imaginable way!! I was feeling bad about letting my Bonnie go, but every ride on the CB is helping that feeling go away
