Bumped the Speed Limiter.
FWIW, on my machine, it's 102 - not 105.
Macintosh, South Dakota...U.S. 12, riding west. Long open stretch.
I'm on a business/pleasure trip and Internet access in motels has been spotty.
Sorry...no pics. No helmet-cam.
But...80 mph now seems so...slow...

Cold engine or warm, fresh oil or due for a change, it doesn't matter... When I pull in the clutch at a stop and engage first gear, the action sounds like a bolt-action rifle. Clack! Ear plugs don't seem to help.
Anyone else experiencing this on their '14? The gearbox is otherwise very smooth-shifting and quiet. Engine idle is 1000 rpm. I've never had a wet-clutch bike that makes a racket like this when shifting into first from a standstill.

I want to add a little protection to my CB. I know that a lot of you guys have frame sliders installed, and I've seen a that a few have installed crash bars. Which is better? I prefer the looks of the frame sliders, but wonder if the crash bars offer more protection.

I know helmets are very subjective as far as fit (believe me, I know, I'm a XXL), but are there any sorts of standards/ratings regarding wind noise or interior sound levels? If not, what helmet(s) have you guys found to be the quietest?

Well I have spent a little money in the past week. I ordered and received my new Gerbing jacket liner. I figure it is 80 here in Indiana today but that will be changing soon. I also ordered today a Schuberth C3. It is the regular C3. I have two Arai helmets that are getting along in age so it was time to replace them. It will be my first experience with a modular helmet. I am excited as it has been eight years I think since I bought my Arai.

| A small step for man... |

A small step for man, but a giant leap for mankind! No, I did not walk on the moon. I did something even greater! It's on such a huge scale that I find it necessary to announce it here!
As I logged in today as I normally do every night (just to see who's doing what) I noticed the "icon" (I'm even using the language!) on the top right hand corner labeled "FORUM STORE". Now just out of curiosity and knowing that if it got too technical I would run with my tail between my legs, I "CLICKED" on it and before I knew what was happening I had my credit card out and my driver's license (I don't memorize my address you see...) Well, I'm here to tell you that I actually "CLIKED" my way into PURCHASING A RED T SHIRT! Yes sir, I actually bought a T shirt on the computer! But hey, that's not all, I was kind of feeling a little empty (it all happened so fast!) and I kind of clicked on again, and this time I bought a COFFEE MUG! If it wasn't for the fact that it's almost midnight, I felt[/size] like calling my knuckleheaded son and tell him what I just did! But what I think I'll do is to show up on the CB at his house and ask for some coffee you see, and when he sees the mug I'll take off my Johnny Rocket jacket and show him that red T shirt! Then very slowly I will tell him how I got the mug and the shirt. Now I now he will not believe me because there is no way I could have done it on my own, but I don't care! Inside I will know that I DID IT! I'm almost feeling like Clark Kent holding back on the true identity of Superman. I can see me sipping coffee on an easy chair with that red T shirt explaining in every minute detail of how I got the darn things in the COMPUTER! Ain't science grand!

| What helps you be a great rider |

Well to start I ain't no great rider......however I hope to offer the following:
Prior to my first motor bike I rode Mountain Bikes and Road Bikes.I still do. In my view the time I spent on each helped in several ways when it came time to riding my Honda (my first motorcycle).
1. Among bicyclist there is a saying that if your butt hurts the solution is to just ride more. The goal is to strengthen the gluteal muscles. I rarely have soreness when motor biking because my muscles have been made strong already. Beside strengthening my rump muscles while biking I would exercise those muscles while I sat at dinner by pushing myself up while seated. However on my CB I do find that if my pants are to tight I still get that burning sensation.
2. Riding a Road Bike really gives you sense as to just how bad things are with motorist in general. People just don't want to be inconvenienced. They would rather drive to close to the rider than be held up until they could easily pass you and give more room. On a bicycle you are real close of the action. However it is more of a problem of getting hit from behind than it is of having someone pull out in front of you. I tend to ride my Road Bike with one eye on the rear view mirror.
3. Mountain biking gives you lots of experience in balancing a bike. It also helps in the area of dealing with close calls and having to brake hard to avoid and obstacle. There is, of course, a huge difference in weight so not everything carries over to motor bikes. On numerous occasions while Mountain Biking I have learned the value of a helmet. I don't care to enter the debate on helmets but my helmet saved my head on three occasions so for me they are worth the trouble.
My goal is not to say that bicycling is the "end all" as a preparation for your first motorcycle but just to say that it has helped me is several ways. It has made me a safer rider. I would appreciate any posts where other members gives details on what makes them a better rider.
Cheers!
