I've been lurking the forums here for a few months trying to get inspiration on my recently purchased CB1100. I thought this would be the bike of bikes for a while. I haven't been all that pleased with it.

I bought a 2Bros Exhaust and P1X insert, hoping for a little bit of harrumph, but the bike just doesn't produce that much power. I'm surprised, it certainly lugs well and you can just about idle around in 5th gear, but it doesn't have the acceleration that I expected.

I also upgraded the suspension, HyperPro shocks tuned by EPM, made a huge difference in the rear, but I feel like the front makes it all goofy. Maybe this bike isn't what I thought it was.

The bike is certainly beautiful, and I want to keep it, but I am miserable in that every time I want to ride the bike, I know the Grom is the right choice to take for a get away! How sad is that!

Someone talk some sense into me!

I have owned Honda motorcycles from the seventies (back in the seventies when they were "state of the art") and then I moved to BMWs. Yes, my handle name should be "Beemer Guy" but I registered on my phone and didn't see the typo.

Anyway, I saw a CB1100 this past weekend and fell in love with it. I gave up riding a few years ago (fear of Bambi and idiots on cells phones) but now I'm thinking of getting back. Given that I'm used to the comfort and control of a BMW (RT and GS) how will I like the Honda? There's not one anywhere around here (that I'm aware of) available for a test ride.

Just wondering if our CB1100s could be modded to look like the motorcycles from the CHiPs tv show? Large "road king" windshield, big "loop" crash bars, footboards, single "springer" seat, & hard cases. I kind of like the look.

Hi guys, the mod bug is always lurking for me for damn near any vehicle I own so, what's available, and what's the best as far as reprogramming the ecu on these things. I just want a hair more power/response, and will probably end up with different exhaust in time and also maybe a set of lower gear ratio sprockets for the drag strip just to see what's what. Also, I'm guessing 86 octane would no longer cut it with a re-programmed ecu.

Because I keep my DLX on a concrete floor now, instead of a rug, I noticed a small puddle of water beneath where the mufflers meet the headers. I looked and noticed that there was a drain hole and assumed that it was to drain condensation from the exhaust, okay that's good. A few days later, after an all day ride the previous day, I stood the bike up off its side stand and I got a large rusty puddle from the right side only. Okay, that's not good. I concluded that this bike needed to stay on its center stand when being garaged so that the exhaust can drain properly.

Did our local 700km "Duffey Lake loop" today. Filled up and emptied three times first tank 230 kms; second tank 155kms; third tank 220 kms. No real difference in speed or riding conditions. I've got bad gas before, but dang, never anything like that. Felt lucky not to be stranded, as I usually push my fill-ups to the limit on routes I know. Makes me wonder how much of our mileage variation is simply due to the quality of fuel in our respective areas.

This little church is pretty much in e middle of nowhere and my wife has always admired it when we've passed it.

The CB1100 rider was wearing a red and black mesh jacket (Joe Rocket, maybe?). I was too slow on the uptake to snap a pic. His outfit look familiar. Who was it?

I'm looking for a little advice before I buy a 2013 CB1100. It's a non ABS model with just under 1000 miles and I haven't seen it in person. Also, it's my first bike.

I've spoken with the dealer a few times and between conversations I'm told a mechanic took the bike for a ride and a fouled spark plug caused discoloration throughout the exhaust system. He's had the bike for about six months and said it was often started and moved between the lot and the shop without really being ridden.

Could there be that much build up on the plugs with such low miles? Also, is there anything to be concerned about besides the cosmetics?

welp I decided to jump in and tackle my valve check today.......and I'm VERY glad I did. Sorry for the long post haha.

I'm just shy of 8k miles, she runs great, but I noticed i'm getting poor gas mileage (like 37-40mpg,and honestly I don't ride it that hard). Even when I'm just cruising all highway, I never get better than 40mpg. I do some googling an it says that could be a symptom of tight valves.

I decide to take a look at the plugs first, they are all a gorgeous tan color - so far . I put the feeler gauge on my #1 intake - it's PERFECT. I'm even happier, I say to myself "man this is going to be CAKE I'll be riding in an hour". hahahhahahhaha then the fun part starts, oh boy..........

I check #3 per the manual.....tight, really tight. I check the next one, even worse. So tight I figure I'll try a thinner gauge just to see if maybe i'm crazy, no go. These things are so tight now I'm starting to second guess myself. I backtrack and start the whole process over, man i don't think there is any room at all between the cam and the bucket. Gulp.

After about 2 hours of messing around I finally decide to throw in the towel. At this point I'm just hoping the valves being that tight didn't hurt anything. I have an appointment Tuesday morning at the shop for them to check it out and get it fixed up.

Luckily I bought a 5 year warranty, so if anything is bad they will fix it (the shop manager is one of my best friends so I have no worries about having to fight over the warranty).

I'm just really, really, REALLY unhappy that my bike is in about 6 pieces, it's going to be a perfect 85 degrees for the next two days, and I just sold my VFR 2 weeks ago.


Moral(s) of the story - Do your maintenance, 9 out of 10 may never have to have their valves adjusted, but if you own that 10th bike you'll be sorry if you skip it!

DON'T EVER, EVER, EVER SELL YOUR 2ND BIKE!!!!!

For those who have followed along with my thread titled "The End is Near," as well other posts regarding seat comfort and other miscellaneous posts, I have been struggling to find comfort on my CB. For those that don't know, I had issues with the general ergonomic, paricularly the peg to saddle height and the fore/aft peg position. I'm 6'1" and these aren't the roomiest bikes.

Very early on, I bought a K&H solo seat. Though only a few mm taller than the stock saddle, the firmer foam and stiffer seat pan hold you in place and don't squish down. This was a noticeable improvement and seemed to work well for a while. Earlier this year, I noticed the bike wasn't as comfortable. My lower back would tighten up and my right hip started bothering me even after a short ride. Actually, sitting in a car was uncomfortable. In fact, I sold my car and older truck and bought a new truck since I needed something with an elevated seating position. It was at that point I had every intention to sell the CB because I could use the cash to pay off my new truck. I went out to the garage to clean it up so I could take some photos the next day and list it for sale. After I got done, I just couldn't bear the thought.

I backed away from the ledge and decided to try a set of adjustable footpegs to help alter the rider triangle. Even then, my thought was I am spending about $100 to see if this works. I wasn't a huge gamble and I wasn't ready to sink another $500 and several weeks wait time into a taller seat. After fiddling with various adjustments, got my pegs to where I like them. My hips relaxed just enough to where I can ride without any pain there, but all was not jolly.

My lower back was still getting tight and protested in pain after just 10-15 minutes sometime. I have long struggled with back pain and have sold a few cars because of it. The CB again was in danger of exile. This time, I was looking for a bike with some soul but all the comfort and performance I could hope for. I was going to sell my V-strom and CB and hopefully get 1 bike to do it all. The only thing I found (in my budget) was the Yamaha FJ09.Its really a great bike, but it is missing something. It just didn't stir my soul. Once again, I backed away from the ledge.

Maybe I needed a new seat I began to think. I was about to order a 1/2 inch taller than the standard Corbin. My undecided nature had me confused on colors, materials, stitching, welts or no welts. Then, I spotted a used 2013 at a local shop and it had a Corbin. Stopped in to sit on it and it was all wrong for me. Back to the drawing board...

Since early this year, my back has been getting worse and worse. I've known for a long time that my mattress wasn't supporting my spine like it should. In January, I managed to talk my wife into giving up our Sleep Number bed to try a memory foam mattress. She ended up loving it, but we got the softest one and it just wasn't supportive enough for me. I tried sticking pillows under the mattress, but got nothing more than a little relief for a couple weeks. It was really starting to affect my sleep, by mood, and my work. Despite that, I didn't want to ask the misses to go looking again at mattreses. You know, happy wife = happy life.

The mattress we bought in January came with a 1 year comfort guarantee. As long as you keep it clean, they'll exchange it for another less a 9.25% sanitation fee. So, I told the wife that we need to go look at beds again. I saw the look of concern because I knew she knew that I needed a firm mattress. Luckily, we found something that worked for both of us. It was about 10% less than the one we returned, so after it was all rung up, I owed a whopping $20 and some change.

First night, I slept through the night and even slept in all the way to 8, haha. My back no longer hurts when I get out of bed. Most importantly, I can ride the CB in NO discomfort!

Soory to dive maybe a little deeper into my personal business than we might typically see here. I suppose everyone has to sleep on something, but many folks probably don't give their bed much thought. Some, like me, may be more sensitive to how and where they sit, stand, or sleep. The moral of the story is that I ain't selling anything!
