I was thinking to myself a few weeks ago about this forum and with what seems to be of the most current information, there are no foreseeable releases of CB11 to look out for. I view this forum about everyday, so there would certainly be a hole left were this to go away, hence the arrival of such ponderings. This brings me to the inevitable finality of this forum and what transpires after.
I'm new to this whole quorum that relies itself on the shared experience of owning one particular MC. Does the future forum of a discontinued bike linger long after? Will threads start to appear that show how much resilience one has gotten outta their CB? Will we all reminisce on the newness that was once so apparent of our beloved's? Will there be a new bike that comes out that fills the void that the CB has now created? And we'll all migrate to a new forum but in the back of our heads, we recollect the "good ole days" when bikes were air cooled and ABS was optional? I'm drifting here, but you get the gist.
This is clearly an extremely speculative thread. I was curious to see how others view the future of belonging to a forum that may or may not be able to sustain itself forever seeing we may have a "limited" release model on our hands.

Hey guys, I need some help. I just got back from a ride tonight and something happened when I was on my way back. At a stoplight, I had trouble going from 2nd gear to 1st. The trouble was that I pressed the shifter all the way down, but it only went to N, no further. As I continued home, I found that the motorcycle also had trouble going from 1st to 2nd gear when I pressed the shifter all the way up. Between 1st and 2nd, the transmssion stops at N. Even when I try hitting the shifter again, it doesn't move into 1st or 2nd for 1-3 times before it finally shifts. The motorcycle is a 2013 Honda CB1100 still under warranty. I has 1,700 miles on it. The clutch fluid/brake fluid was normal. I also checked the shifter and it seemed fine, not loose or anything. I couldn't check the engine oil because it was still hot and hadn't settled. What do you suggest I do?

Ok. This is only vaguely related to our bikes. But it was on Jalopnik, and it speaks to the mind that inspired our bikes, and the company behind it.
Plus I laughed aloud upon reading it.

So, last three tanks I got around 54mpg, which translates to 200+ miles per tank. Last week, I figured I could make it the 30 miles to the gas station near my house on what I had left, trip showed 162 miles travelled, so I was pretty certain I had a good margin.
Nope. Was about 8 miles from where I was hoping to get to, and I ran out of gas on the highway. The bike is really nice and lets you know you're getting close to by starting a slow sputter, following shortly by large sputtering, after which you're basically taking the place of the motor. Wife rescued me. Unfortunately, I had tried to recrank the bike a couple of times on an already weak battery, so when my wife brought me gas, the bike wouldn't crank and I had to pull the battery and charge it at home. I rode back to the bike, installed the battery, and got it home. Since the battery was near end of life anyway, I purchased a Shorai replacement since I've had a good experience with the Shorai I put in my CBR.
I think I got poor mileage out of that tank because I've been getting more and more comfortable with the bike and riding a little bit more aggressive on occasion. Which leads me to the second half of this story:
On the way to work the other day, getting on the highway, I turned inside another vehicle on a two-lane entrance ramp, and in my zeal, scraped a peg. That's only the second time I've done that (first on this bike, other time was on a K1600GTL test ride). Kinda scared myself a little at first, then I thought, wowzers, didn't even realize I had leaned over that far. My body position was crap because I wasn't actually preparing to turn that much, otherwise I would never have scraped, but oh well. Now my perfect peg feelers are scratched on one side.

Stopped in at the local shop yesterday and Salesman Steve says "What are you doing tomorrow?" I laughed and said "riding... I ride everyday. Why do you want to go?" He says "Yea, man". So I said " Ok, meet you at the shop at 9..don't be late and make sure you have gas"
He was actually a couple minutes early, unlike last time when I was getting ready to leave just as he pulled down the street ..(.he got lucky, he was 5 minutes late..6 by the time he got in the parking lot. Had he been 1 more minute behind I would have been gone)
He wanted to learn some more local curvy roads so I plotted a route that would hit some good ones. Very little traffic, lots of curves, lots of elevation changes. A mid day lunch and then ride some more.
Here are some pics from the day

We stopped for lunch at a place called Country Inn in Georgetown Ohio. Steve rides a real clean ZRX Kawi, lime green of course. Nice bike. Has "twin shocks and round gauges baby" like a motorcycle should

Steve had a pork chop sandwich and baked sweet potato (I had a club sandwich and fries)

and then asked about dessert. I opined that he should try the orange cake, a huge 3 layer cake that tastes like a creamsickle ice cream bar. He just kept saying "Oh dude, this is so good" lol
after lunch it was back to the curves

Good day, 150 miles, little to no traffic, we hit some outstanding roads in this county and the county just east of here.
Have fun Steve? (he's a lurker on this forum)

| VIN Oddity |

I did search for this issue in this forum before I posted this but didn't find that it had been addressed, if it has been addressed then my bad. The issue is a VIN that ends with EK100553. My understanding is the the last six digits are the bike's serial number. The manufacture is allowed to use that field as they deem fit.
My issue is that the other VINs that I have seen would have this particular VIN listed as '000553' and not as '100553', so it is that 1 after the EK seems to be odd. Does any know if that '1' at the beginning of the VIN has any purpose?

As of this past Saturday, I am no longer the F & I manager for a Honda-only dealership. The owner says it is "seasonal" but the truth is I had a couple of recent spats with the sales manager and one of the other owners about ethics. Obviously not a smart thing to do in a dealership! (Or to any boss, for that matter) But it's OK. I can go back to being retired, and they can go on doing what they do.
Honda's suggested retail pricing for warranties is exactly double the cost. If a CB1100 customer buys an extended warranty for their bike for the Honda-suggested price, Honda and the dealer each get half the money. If the amount is less than the suggested price, the dealer gets less, but Honda still gets paid the same. After all, Honda is the one that is providing the warranty work. If the price the customer agrees to is higher than "suggested", the dealer receives all of the additional price paid over suggested. Simply put, the amount Honda gets never changes. The dealer representative is trying to earn the most money for the dealership.
Someone has already provided the name of a dealership that will sell you a HONDA warranty online. I haven't investigated it closely, or purchased on myself through them, but I am 99.99999% certain it is the real deal. That's where I would go, or recommend my friends buy their warranty.
Someone wrote that they thought they couldn't cancel their warranty if purchased through financing the bike. Not true. Warranties can be canceled at any time and the funds will be disbursed to the lienholder if necessary. Cancelled warranties are refunded on a pro-rated basis. If the dealer tries to tack on a "cancellation fee", make them show you where you agreed in writing that they could.
As far as pricing, I think a 48-month extended warranty suggested price on a CB1100 is $799. If a dealer quoted you $1500, they were 1)lying through their teeth, and 2) going to pocket $1100 in profit with $400 going to Honda to pay for the warranty.
Honda warranty pricing is based on the engine not the type of bike...cruiser, standard, sport, etc. Dirt bikes aren't eligible.
The dealership where I worked paid me $10 per hour, and 5% of the dealer profit on an F & I product (loans and/or warranties or GAP) So...if I sold you an extended warranty on your CB1100 for $800, then I made $20, if they remembered to pay me. If I sold it to you for $600, then I only made $10, but you saved $200. It was an easy choice for me. I earned more in parts discounts than they paid me many months.
