  Red Side Covers Finally
Posted by: redbirds_imp - 04-02-2017, 08:52 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (21)

The 2013 CB has always been my favorite model albeit all models have their strong points. The only burr under the saddle has been the silver side covers; to me they look like primer coated doors on a car. The price of replacement covers in body color are too costly for me so after putting it off for years now, I ordered paint in base and body color from Color Rite. I have followed the Color Rite directions sent with the paint and the process went surprisingly well.

First step was to remove the CB1100 emblems without damaging them. A blow dryer and some dental floss made this job easy with no marring of the covers.

I taped off the black upper part of the covers and found a crack in the right side cover near the mounting bolt hole. This was repaired with a thin piece of sheet steel and some JB Weld epoxy.

Next the covers were sanded with 600 grit sandpaper and finished with 0000 steel wool. One coat of primer was applied.

After allowing the primer to dry thoroughly, two coats of the Color Rite base color was applied allowing about 20 minutes between coats.

Then three coats of Color Rite Candy Glory Red allowing adequate drying between coats.

After allowing an hour drying time, the masking tape was removed. This required using an Exacto knife to carefully trace along the tape's edge so as not to pull the paint. Three coats of the Color Rite clear coat were applied, 20 minutes drying time between coats.

I will replace the emblems tomorrow using outdoor rated double sided tape by 3M and post a few pics with the covers on the bike.

New fork gaiters and plastidip under fender.
Posted by: Jaychaynes_imp - 04-02-2017, 08:48 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (7)

After I took some phosphoric acid to the underside of my fender, I also replaced the cheap fork gaiters with some official triumph gaiters. Then I coated the underside of the fender with plastidip. But I decided last minute to coat the outside of the bracket where they attach to the fork. I think it looks pretty cool.

Gaiters are obviously higher quality. DON'T BUY THE CHEAP GAITERS. TRIUMPH OR KAWI BRAND.

  2017 Air Box Covers
Posted by: will866_imp - 04-01-2017, 05:37 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (50)

Does anybody know if the air box covers from the 2017 CB1100 will fit on the 2014s? The are the black plastic covers if front of the side covers. I like the chrome strip on the 2017s and think they would look good on a 2014 if they fit.

Anybody know when 2017 parts might start to become aavailable for purchase? In addition to the airbag covers, I also covet the LED turn signals if those are transferrable.

  Black headlight brackets
Posted by: PowerDubs_imp - 04-01-2017, 02:58 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (17)

I was cruising around on Samurider and saw this picture-

As I sat looking at this beautiful bike- I examined the details and something jumped out at me. The black headlight brackets. I then looked at a normal CB- and once you see it, you can't unsee it.

One of the cool parts of this bike is simply the traditional round headlight- but the silver brackets detract from that IMO. Just look at the bikes in our banner above.

So I bought a spare set of brackets and will be making them black.

Other pics I found-

Interesting thing happened riding to Pilates
Posted by: Pete Erickson_imp - 03-31-2017, 04:00 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

So, I'm riding to my Pilates class this afternoon and I have to stop because the school bus in front of me is letting of a couple of kids. A boy and a girl (both about HS age) get off an walk past me. The boy barely notices me, but the girl looks at the bike and says "great bike".

That was a total surprise! Neither of them are in the demographic this bike was aimed at and the girl was the one who made the comment. I know that sounds sexist, but HS girls are not generally interested in motorcycles.

  Spring Ride!
Posted by: Paul_imp - 03-30-2017, 02:59 PM - Forum: Seat Time - Replies (6)

Hi there,

After an outrageous amount of time, I pulled off my camera again.

Yesterday, the weather was incredebly tempered (20°C) and the sun decided to catch up after the winter. Perfect timing!

With a friend we took our CBs and headed south of Paris. After one hour we arrived near Melun and began a tour by Fontainbleau castle and the Gatinet Park.

Instead of writing down all we have seen, here is a short video:

Enjoy Smile
