  Welcoming myself back
Posted by: BIGGREEK_imp - 04-05-2017, 05:22 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (18)

Hey all!! Its been a while since my presence here. Last June I was in an accident with my CB. I ended up being okay, bruised ankle (first thing that hit the car), saved by the boot.

Long story short, two way road, at highway speed, everyone stopped and swerved. I had nowhere to go, I tried to squeeze between a Subaru and a wooden 4x4 signpost, as the bike slid, it chose the corner of the Subaru. I bounced off and took a dive into a ditch.

The bike, with the exception of the exhaust and bottom of the frame and engine side cover, had no scratches.

Gas tank crushed, instrument cluster destroyed, left rear shock crumpled, bar bent, some misc. items damaged. I ended up riding it back home, after the hospital visit. I was super po'd, I had just waxed it and polished it up the night before.

Insurance got a hold of it, gave me an estimate of $5,500, the dealer looked it over, added $400 to the tally. So all in all, about $6,000 in damage. Very close to totaling out the bike, I wanted to keep the bike, since everything major checked out. It was all bolt on parts that needed replacing.

$1000 for the gas tank
$1000 for the inst. cluster
$500 for ONE rear shock/spring assembly
$900 for the muffler

I couldnt believe it. So after 3 MONTHS of waiting I finally got my bike back. And in the process of waiting, I purchased another bike, 98 Valkyrie. For those of you who dont know, its a more bada**, stripped down, more powerful Goldwing.

So, after feeling bad about hurting the CB, I havent really ridden it since I got it back, plus being returned to me at the end of August, it was already at the back end of the real riding season. Ive only added 85 miles and 20 of those were from riding it back from the dealer. Hopefully ill add some good miles this year.

  First ride up the canyon
Posted by: iwannaride_imp - 04-03-2017, 11:27 AM - Forum: CB1100 Photos & Videos - Replies (26)

I am so glad I got this bike! I love how smooth it is and it has plenty of power! I've only ridden it to and from work until today. It was nice to take it up the canyon. Still a little cold, but it was a great ride.

Here are a few pics from today's ride.

  Help Florida folks!
Posted by: Inhouse Bob - 04-03-2017, 05:11 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (12)

My daughter has a summer internship in Land O Lakes, Fla and we are searching for some reasonably priced housing. I may even get to ride my CB down there!
If you are in the Tampa area and have space (or know of someone who does) for a nice, quiet kid with awesome ninja art skills for most of June and July, please let me know. I just want to know that she is in a good place.
Please PM with anything you think might work.
Thanks!
Bob

Fellow CB1100 rider accident - be careful out there!
Posted by: Rebel73_imp - 04-03-2017, 04:10 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (40)

So last Saturday morning my buddy, Diego, who also rides a CB1100 (2013 STD) and is a member of this forum(not very active, though) and I rode up to Crystal Lake, a nice local mountain road, and had a very nice ride. It was super chilly up there, but nice nonetheless.

Well, anyhow, on our way back we were traveling through a residential area. Diego was in front, with me following not far behind, when suddenly a car pulls out of a driveway from behind a row of parked cars. At this point, everything felt like it transpired in slow motion. Diego clipped the corner of the front driver's side bumper, ejecting him from the motorcycle and onto the street, where he rolled several times before coming to a stop. He got up almost immediately and walked over to the curb. His CB was laying in the street on its left side, a sad sight indeed. After making sure he was ok, I had a local resident help me get the bike upright and to the side of the road. It was difficult as it couldn't be steered due to the damage. Fortunately Diego didn't have any broken bones, but who knows what other injuries could manifest themselves later on, as he was complaining of hip pain. The good thing is that we were only going ~20mph. It could've been much worse.

To sum things up, the bike is a total loss. It was valued at around $6,600 and the repair costs are in excess of 7K. He's working on getting everything sorted out asap, but he will soon be in the market for a new bike, hopefully another CB. He really loved his bike and had quite a lot of mods on it. The cage driver was some young kid. A motor cop responded to my 911 call and talked to all the parties involved. He seemed sympathetic to our side and even lectured the kid about not just pulling out blindly like that.

It's sad but these bikes don't hold their value very well compared to say, Triumphs. Obviously the demand isn't there. I don't care. They are still superior in just about every way.

I've included a pic that we took at the top of the mountain. His bike is the one on the right...RIP.. Sad

  3D MODEL of a DLX
Posted by: BestStandard_imp - 04-02-2017, 10:07 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

Just ran across this while surfing... you can buy a detailed 3D computer model of a CB1100 and many other vehicles. It says 2010 but it looks like a 2014 DLX. Pretty cool but expensive at $95. Check out all the different views and the video:
