New fork gaiters and plastidip under fender. - Jaychaynes_imp - 04-02-2017

After I took some phosphoric acid to the underside of my fender, I also replaced the cheap fork gaiters with some official triumph gaiters. Then I coated the underside of the fender with plastidip. But I decided last minute to coat the outside of the bracket where they attach to the fork. I think it looks pretty cool.

Gaiters are obviously higher quality. DON'T BUY THE CHEAP GAITERS. TRIUMPH OR KAWI BRAND.

So the phosphoric acid is to remove grime and/or rust and the plastic coat is so it doesn't reoccur or allow dirt to adhere?

Yes. The previous owner was in Chicago and didn't care well for the bike, so there was some salt-rust. The acid did well pulling off rust after I let it sit overnight. The plastidip will hopefully keep it from happening again, obviously along with my regular cleaning.

Is plastisol something found locally? Spray can or brushed on? Sorry, I've never heard of that approach, even on cars. Your pic looks great with the results you got.

Ok spellcheck, let's try plastidip, not plastisol!

You can Google it. Is just a coat of paint that peels off really easily if you want it to.

Plastidip also comes in a non aerosol form, in a tall, narrow can so you can dip tool handles or whatever and it forms a rubbery coating. Seems to work well for making faux RLETs as well. Dipped my lever ends twice and twiddled them so they dried evenly. Takes about 5 minutes.
Ooh! Did I sense a disturbance in the force? Wink

When I had a few classic bikes back in UK, I used to use car rubberized under seal for inside the mudguards. It did the job very well and never needed re-applying.
