  Ikon and exhaust question
Posted by: woodsparrow_imp - 04-23-2017, 11:39 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (12)

I'm finally getting around to doing some suspension work on my bike, does anyone know which of the 5 'ikon' websites is the official one? I see an ikonsuspensionusa, ikonsuspension, ikonshocksusa, and a couple others.

Perhaps more importantly (since I can probably order from Revzilla), does anyone know which shocks and springs go on a 2013 CB1100 (ABS)?

I'm not set in stone on the Ikons, but I've heard they're about as good as Ohlins and don't cost 1k per set. This is my daily driver/primary vehicle, and I don't do track days or anything, so I'm just looking for a slight uptweak and some fun upgrades.

Second question, does anyone have an exhaust (either full or slip on) they would suggest? I actually like how quiet the stock is, but mine's banged up from a previous owner, and is starting to rust (plus it looks tacky). So I'm leery of buying any aftermarkets because I don't want some BS 'growl' that makes me deaf. I find loud pipes irritating and they give me a headache, even with earplugs.

  A GS1100 To Restore
Posted by: redbirds_imp - 04-23-2017, 06:45 AM - Forum: Other Bikes - Replies (38)

Picked up this barn find GS today for $500. Connected a gas supply to the fuel system, checked the oil, Jumped a car battery to the dead one in place and she cranked up after just a few turns. Right side cover is missing and the seat needs a good cleaning and recover.

Always liked these bikes and I plan to keep this one and ride it. I'll post more pictures as I go forward with the project. Any advice from those with previous experience with this model will be appreciated.

Steve

Please help me identify a part
Posted by: dimitrix_imp - 04-23-2017, 06:28 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (8)

Hi all, I just discovered a cracked part on my 2014 CB1100. I don't know what to call it, but from studying the diagrams on [url=http://www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts/2014-honda-cb1100/o/m155474#sch848019]bikebandit I think I've narrowed it down to what they call a balancer shaft (Part number 15 on the diagram)?

Can somebody confirm that the part is in fact damaged and that I've identified the right part number on the diagram?

Also do you think it is a quick fix of replacing it or do I have a lot to disassemble?

Why Drivers Don't See Us - Featuring the CB1100
Posted by: emptysea - 04-21-2017, 10:00 PM - Forum: Motorcycling - General - Replies (45)

There are several threads on this forum pointing to articles about distracted motorists and/or invisible motorcyclists, but other than a couple of firsthand reports on this forum, I have not seen our CB1100 mentioned in any of these articles.

This morning, thanks to a Facebook post (by an Indian Springfield rider), I came to find two articles about the perils we face on two wheels in which the author's 2014 CB1100 is mentioned. As it turns out, the author is forum member JackBaruth (who should know not only that the red ones are faster, but that they more visible. Wink )

Jack has several other articles and blog posts about the CB1100. Google "Jack Baruth CB1100" for more of his perspective.

He'd be a great addition to the Eureka Springs rally. Big Grin

  Looking at a 2013 tomorrow
Posted by: mjpark_imp - 04-21-2017, 10:11 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (24)

Tomorrow I'm going to be looking at a 2013 model and I was wondering if there's anything specific I should be looking out for. It has very low miles and has been kept in climate controlled storage.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

  COTA MotoGP Texas.***SPOILER ALERT
Posted by: CB4ME_imp - 04-21-2017, 08:34 AM - Forum: Motorcycling - General - Replies (16)

Vinales kicked butt in FP1 but Marquez topped the timesheets in FP2. Zarco came in a strong second followed by Vinales. Rossi 4th and Pedrosa 5th. Lorenzo has to run in Q1 with an 11th place finish.

The media hype says COTA is make or break time for Marquez. I'm not sure if I'd go that far but another DNF would be ugly.

MotoAmerica is beginning their season at COTA. BeIn Sports is covering their races too.

  Help a new brother out!
Posted by: Clem_imp - 04-21-2017, 04:36 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (12)

Alright, so this is not what I wanted my first post to be, but unfortunately right out of the gate I am asking for some wisdom.

I bought a '13 cb1100 a few weeks ago, LOVE the bike! I decided to make some changes, I took off the rear fender, and switched out the turn signals for smaller ones. I had made the fender change, rear light change and took the bike for a ride the other night, everything was good. Yesterday it started right up and I pulled it into my garage to change out the front signals. I took off the headlight made the change, and the nut for the headlight to attach to the front was loose, so I had to open up the lamp and re-position it to attach the headlight. I button everything up and go to start it....I get a clicking sound and the oil light comes on, then the engine light. WTF! I mess with it a bit more and it keeps happening. The right crank case cover was scratched up when I bought it and I had replaced that, but it was no big deal and had driven it since, but I thought because the oil light was on maybe I needed to change the oil or it had air lock or something. I changed the oil and still same thing. I have attached a video of what is happening now. Please, any wisdom would be helpful, I don't know how to go through the wires, to figure out what is what, and I am assuming it's an electrical problem. See video link below.
