I keep my CB on a battery tender, check the tires before each ride, clean and lube the chain after every few tanks, but I couldn't be bothered to check the oil level between changes. Ignoring it may be false economy, but the engine doesn't smoke or drip oil, the oil pressure light never illuminates while riding, the clutch and gearbox work perfectly, and I change it every 4000 miles anyway. Besides, I hate getting down on my knees. Anyone else as negligent as I am?

It may be that a cult bike must have character? Or not?

Near my house we have a great spot called Ridge Road. It runs along the edge of the escarpment with some good twists and great views of Hamilton, Niagara, Lake Ontario etc...

I was cruising down this road when I pass a KTM on my right hand side turning right onto my road. It isn't long until he is right on my tail. I wait for a safe place to pass the work truck and he passes right with me.

The road varies between 60km/hr and 80 in spots. There are also a few 4 way stops. He was riding the 690 Duke. Flat out I could lose him no problem, but every time we came to a curvy spot, I felt like I was holding him back. And I guess so, he's riding a 327 lbs dry bike with 73 HP!

If you are in the area this Sunday, at Phillips park in Montgomery,IL there will be a gathering of motorcycles. It is called Motorcycle Sunday. There will be a band playing and food is available. I will not be riding as I am a fair weather rider (70 degrees and above) but will be attending. Our local Honda dealer will have a booth there so stop by and say hello.

What gorilla installs the oil filters on the CB1100s at the factory. I've probably changed 50 or more screw on filters on bikes over the past 30+ years, and NEVER have I seen one that won't come off with the proper filter socket.

The filter is on so tightly, that even a tight fitting wrench/socket attempted to strip off the flats on the factory installed filter.

Here's the dumb question ...... Honda doesn't possibly use right hand threads on their filters, do they?

I'd hate to have to take the bike to a dealer and have them remove the oil filter. But it won't budge.

I took the CB1100 out for a short ride to get the oil up to temp so I can do 'black beauty's' first oil change. As luck would have it, the Honda shop within a couple miles of my house had no GN4 10w30 in stock when I stopped by a week or so ago. So I bought GN4 10w40.

It probably would have caused no harm, but I thought 'every oil reference in the Honda documentation mentions only 10w30,' so after a phone call, I was off in the car on a 50 mile round trip for the recommended weight. The 10w40 will be returned.

Now to the front suspension. I thought, hmmm, before I start buying emulators and new springs, lets take the advice of a couple of forum members and loosen the lower triple clamps, the axle nut, and the axle pinch bolts, and really rock the suspension up and down while holding the front brake. And of course, re-torque everything per Honda specs.

Surprise! The fork action is noticeably softer and smoother than it has ever been. Now, instead of a harsh fork jolt followed by a harsh rear shock jolt, the front end seems to absorb bumps much better, making the shock action that much more noticeable.

So, I'll start off with new rear shocks with springing and valving set up for my weight.

Has anyone upgraded there brake lines on an ABS model?
I had it in mind to do this when I changed the brake fluid for the first time. Had a look to measure up but realised that it wasn't going to be as easy as I thought... There are some strange joints that connect the rubber hoses to the ABS system.

I'll call round the brake line manufacturers to see if they have solutions, but wondered if anyone here had come up against it.
