So my 2013 CB1100 which I bought at 40k+ KM (25k miles) developed a leak around the cylinder head cam cover. I sent it off to the mechanic and was surprised to hear from him that he had to remove the exhaust and engine bolt to tilt the motor slightly forward in order to remove the cam cover without scratching it. Has anyone had experience removing the cam cover without doing any of that?

In any case, he mentioned that the cam chain seems looser than what he is used to seeing. So I have a few questions hoping someone might be able to answer:

1. What is the tolerance for the cam chain?
2. What are the torque values for cam cover bolts, exhaust header bolts and engine mount bolts?

Would really appreciate if someone has access to a service manual and can share those figures.

(Before anybody ask why my Honda dealer doesn't have one, the CB1100 isn't officially imported and so nobody really has any information or support from the dealer here.)

Just completed a week-long vacation with my wife through the national parks in California - Yosemite, Sequoia & Kings Canyon, Death Valley, along with checking out Lake Tahoe and Mammoth.

Along the way, we spotted groups of bikers on long-distance riding vacations. Most were either adventure tour bikes like R1200GS, Gold Wings and Harleys. I applauded them all, as the weather was not the greatest. I watched a pair of V-Stroms follow me into the worst sand storm I've ever driven through in Death Valley, a GS passed me in my Honda wagon in a cataclysmic hail storm, and every day included at least some rain.

Naturally, I chatted up these guys at gas stops when the opportunity arose. The most interesting to me was a guy on a Thruxton, laden with duffel bags, riding with a group of Harleys. Riding a similar vintage Bonneville, it wouldn't be my first choice for a days-long ride through mountain roads, but like they say, it's not what you ride, but that you ride, right?

And I felt like a hero when I spent a weekend on my old Beemer.

I just got my OEM 2019 CB1100EX fork boots in from Mr. T. The boots have 2 molding seams running the length of the boot. One of those seams has an air escape hole at each accordion fold. Does anyone here own a 2019 CB1100EX, or if not has anyone seen one in the flesh to know what orientation Honda places the boots in, with regard to position of those vent holes?

If the vent holes are facing the rear, that means the opposite molding seam faces the front of the bike. I have tried zooming in on 2019 CB1100EX pictures, and it looks like the seam with no holes faces away from the bike on both sides, meaning that the seam with the vent holes faces inward toward the front fender on both sides. Can anyone confirm? I have borrowed Bazbro s excellent picture of his OEM fork boots and attached below. Zoom in on the picture to see the vent holes.

I might have posted this but not sure. There are a few brackets and some hardware that needs to be installed to get the Deluxe seat to look right but the Deluxe seat will go on Standard without it,this is on a 2014.

New cb1100ex and I know at some point the bike will fall....hopefully only in a parking lot. What kind of engine guard do most folks install? I assume frame sliders will not offer same protection...more disadvantages with frame sliders? Thoughts ? thanks

Went with spouse to Cosco yesterday and walked out with a $15.00 soft sided cooler for the bike to use in southern Utah with Django. Holds 16 cans and a couple of sandwiches if you max out the space. Hard interior plastic liner molded with recesses for cans to max space. Then between the exterior softside and the plastic liner is some reflective aluminum/silver coated material for insulation. Definitely not up to Yeti standards but more than adequate for what I have in mind for it. Plan is to bungie it to the top box behind me on the seat with 10 cans, a reusable frozen hard pack and maybe some cheese and lunch meats in there for on the side of the road snacking to supplement the usual stuff like Jerky and so forth. Just the right size for our daily needs. First day in the 90's I've seen in southern Utah is forecasted to be Thursday (90 degrees on the dot). Temps can range from about low 60's (early AM) to mid 90's (late afternoon) during that time of year while riding.

My Son is in the Navy in Suffolk, Virginia so I figured it’s a good time to do the Skyline and the Blue Ridge drive. I live in Saugus MA, so I had to take the highway down which is not too fun. The Skyline and the Ridge ride was beautiful. I felt like a million dollars driving the 600 hundred plus miles. Well worth it, the only hiccup was a car coming around a bend came into my lane and by avoiding the car I went off the road unto dirt and other matter and when i went to get back on the road and lost control of the CB and I went down. I had a full face on which absorbed the blow to My head and My motorcycle boots and thick leather absorbed the rest. I ended up with a couple of cuts and minor scrapes, and a large hematoma on the outside of my leg and my CB landed on its side, I have Honda crash bars and my CB only has scratches on the tank and windshield. I was able too finish My ride and visit My son and drive home to Saugus.. My only disappointment was that when I was down no biker stopped to help. A guy in a truck and a regular bike did stop though reaffirming my belief in humans. All and all a great trip and I’m glad My CB and I came back in One piece. This summer I am thinking of going back to Nova Scotia on the ferry and doing Cape Brenton highlands and the Cabot trail again while going by ferry to Newfoundland

Can anyone tell me if the key for my 2014 CB1100 has a transponder chip? I looked online and couldn't find a clear answer.
