Cheryl is about a phone call and a short ride away from trading her CTX700 in on a Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster. She likes the increased power and the riding position of the Triumph. The bike will be their black and white version because the there is not an all black 2018 available and she flat out refuses to get a red bike since I have one. Good looking bike. She's probably going to take a longer demo ride on it Saturday just to be sure and then we'll likely be a Triumph/Honda family by June 1.

Well, the Monkey finally arrived the first week of April. Don't know why it took so long for the dealer to get a yellow one but its finally here. Just the cutest thing. Does bring a smile to my face. I'm hoping it doesn't turn into a sickness. There just something about this style of Honda that gets me. Could be because my first bike was a CT70K4. Might add a red '19 and that blue '20 model is looking good also.

First time poster, secret stalker.

Recently my speedometer was malfunctioning due to a bike wash using water jets. The meter was completely busted. No speedo, no RPM, no odo. Only fuel. The needle doesn't run when I turn the bike on.

Decided to pamper the girl a bit by getting myself an Acewell 4553s from Dime City. The guy mentioned that it could fit the bike no problem.

However, I have had issues with the speedometer as it is inaccurate (they used a magnet system just like you would see on a bicycle) and my fuel gauge doesn't go up down. According to the charts, there is a resistance number that you would have to indicate (100, 250, 510, -100, -250 -510) and that is a bit technical for me. The RPM default is set at 2000RPM but it sounds like 1000RPM on default.

Currently going by mileage using an app on my phone which uses the GPS. Pretty accurate.

Could you guys give me some tips?

Hey guys, Couldn't find a dedicated oil thread on here like we have over at XJrider. Those are threads where information is sorted and referenced to keep the topic relevant and information in one place.

I did an oil change with the OEM filter and tried the Honda GN4 new formula oil.. my bike almost immediately hated the oil. It was clunky when it shifted and the oil looked fairly dirty after a few hundred miles. I also found that my gear indicator was having trouble telling me the gear I was in after shifting.

I came to find out thus far my local shop Funwheels here in Long Island, NY was running Full Synthetic Motul 10w-50 in my bike... and it felt great and shifted smooth the past 10k miles (all in which I put on it last season)

Any how they explained that with the hot riding season we have and traffic (NYC suburbs) when the oils break down they lose lubricating properties and you start doing damage (obviously). So the full synthetic Motul choice is made to tolerate much higher temperatures and sticks to everything almost like the old Rotella Formula used to. (They removed the Zinc Phosphorus from the formula so now Rotella is just cheap oil)

On top of that going up to a 10W-50 (manuals call for 10w-30) helps so that by the time the oil thins out from stress and heat its knocking down to the properties of 10w-30. This helps our Air-Cooled Engines stay lubricated properly even in the hottest temperatures instead of a baseline 10w-30 then losing lubrocity under heat and stress.

So I bought the bottles from the dealer and changed the oil back at my house. Stripped the nut on the oil filter so had to go out and grab another from Walmart instead of waiting to order in an OEM. But i could not find any cross reference numbers. So with some digging online I found a website we have used in the past that had the information I needed.

Now I understand that Oil viscosity and filter opinions are a dime a dozen and i will not push my opinion on anyone. All I intend to do is leave this information here for anyone that may be interested and anyone like me that needs to know what oil filter cross reference they can grab from a local Walmart. The Motul is serious stuff and is literally red fluid and not brownish clear like typical oil. The bike loves it and is nothing but smooth again.
I also used the Mobil 1 M1-108 oil filter, Ironically its the same size and code for my 93 Yamaha Xj600 Seca also and have never had any issues with this specific filter.

The 2014 Honda Cb1100 Engine Oil Capacity is as follows
After Draining - 4.0US qt (3.8 liters)
After Draining & Chaning Oil Filter - 4.1 US qts (3.9 liters)
After Opening The Case - 5.2 US qts (4.9 liters) [/b]

The Recommended Oil Type is SAE 10W-30

have M20x1.5 threads,
14 psi by-pass valve,
anti-drain back valve,
2.3" O.D. gasket
2.5" to 3.5" long.
If you have the room, I recommend the longer filters.

Purolator has changed their filters from a concave to a convex fitting surface, so they no longer seal on some motorcycles.

I realize the instrument panel is made to flex / absorb vibration however, last week the panel seemed to vibrate at a whole new level. Does anyone have a pic or can easily describe how to tighten? Hopefully I don't have to remove the headlight....

Hey, Anybody know of a rear rack that is similar to the SW Motech alu-rack for sport bikes? I'm looking for a flat shape and black finish. The Honda factory and others for Givi box attachment look too large and are too shiny. I just want a surface to strap down some soft bags. Any ideas? Thanks Tom

So rain was forecasted today and I drove to work in my cage. Wimpy, lame, yes.

I turned left out of my driveway onto my rural road. I drove about 0.2 miles to an intersection with a 2-lane highway, where I turn left and head north toward civilization and daily servitude.

While I'm stopped at the 4-way stop sign intersection, a guy on a Harley motors across the intersection from the opposite direction and passes by me.

I noticed that his un-helmeted head was cocked at an angle to his left.

As he rode by, I saw that the dude was cradling a cell phone between his ear and his shoulder while riding!

I wish I could have taken a picture.

There was a county cop stopped right behind me. Did he pursue the flagrant and stupid and insurance-premium-inflating lawbreaker?

Does anyone know if a headlight bucket that is metal and black that will fit the 2013?
