Do not ask me why I was perusing pre-owned bikes at the local Moto Guzi / Triumph dealer...

I've been riding with some BMW guys lately and they have a BMW GPS made by Garmin that has a Curvy Roads mode for motorcycles. It seems to work pretty well too. So after a little googling I find that Garmin has a line of GPS' called Zumo for motorcycles that have this feature...great! Except for one thing, they START at $350 and quickly go up from there.

Now I don't consider myself a cheapskate but I'll be darned if I'm going to spend $600 for a GPS so I've been looking for alternatives.

Waze has a Motorcycle mode but in briefly trying it I really haven't seen a difference. I also just discovered that an app I already had but never quite figured out, Scenic has added a curvy roads mode so I plan to try it out.

But I wanted to get input from you folks. Has anybody found anything along these lines? Other than the inevitable "I don't use them fancy geeperessers, I jest use paper maps!"

Everyone bashes when they have a bad customer service experience, so I figured I'd pass along a good one.

I've worn Scorpion helmets for years. They say everyone's head fits a particular brand, and I find Scorpion to be the best fit for whatever head I've got.

Got off my bike at the office this morning and as I pulled up my visor, the loop on my glove snagged the nose piece on the chin vent on my EXO320. I didn't notice at first, until I went back outside to get my trunk, and noticed the vent piece sitting on the ground. Pulling it off broke the plastic tab that attaches it to the helmet.

I figured what the heck, I'd call Scorpion to see what they'd do. One minute phone call. "Just give me your name and address, and what color helmet you've got, and we'll get the piece out in today's mail".

Not bad!

State8 called to let me know my CB1100 Service Manual had arrived. That is one comprehensive book!

On my way back to the Parts Counter, I happened to spy the lovely Kawasaki W800 Cafe model. I'd seen photos and videos of the bike, initially the color scheme didn't pop for me, but the fit and finish (and color) in 'person' made quite an impression. The low bars on the cafe model would kill me, but ..... so lovely, with a good looking set of clocks and tiny bikini fairing.

Well, the CB is less than 400 miles shy of its oil/filter change. Four quarts and Honda filter are waiting for me to get ambitious. I continue to use the standard Honda GN4 10w30, and change it every 3000 miles.

A new tire for sport mined folks. I have the Cont RA 2s and am very happy with them.

Hi all,

If you've ever looked for the perfect Bluetooth earbuds for under-helmet, I have found nirvana.

I like to listen to the news on an app on the way to work in the morning, and use Waze or Google Maps to navigate if I'm going someplace unfamiliar. I like to use Bluetooth earbuds, but have never found a pair that didn't dig into my ear, and hate fumbling for my phone in my pocket if I need to communicate with someone.

Just found these, and they're perfect. And cheap, too, since I think they've been discontinued. I picked up a spare when I found this out.

The earbuds themselves are very small and thin, and don't pull out when you put your helmet on, and don't dig into your ears while riding. Also, just below the right earbud, there's a small mute button on the wire that, if pushed back a bit after you put your helmet on, sits just below the bottom edge of the helmet behind the chin strap. You can easily tap it with the helmet on to mute the sound.

Just wanted to share, in case anyone is looking for the perfect buds.

... headed over to Trinidad for a couple of days fishing. Everything I need for fishing is over there, so all I had to do was pack up and ride!

After a stretch of slow truck traffic hauling debris from the Camp fire (what an unfortunate name) I was onto the slab, I-5, for 30 minutes between Red Bluff and Redding.
Headed west on 299 and ran into 2 delays. At Whiskeytown there was a long wait in both directions. Every cloud, etc. ... I snuck up the shoulder to the front of the line and when we started off again I had the whole road to myself all the way to Weaverville, a great stretch of mountain highway.
Second stop was same scenario, this time a rockslide. Watched a rock the size of a large watermelon dislodged from above bounce on the right shoulder and jump the road into the river.
Once again snuck to the head of the line and was chatting with the flag man, where I was soon joined by a rider on a Wing, towing a trailer. Turns out I went to high school with his sister!
Again, when traffic started we set off and had nobody in our direction for miles.
Finally made it to 101 at Arcata and north another 15 miles or so to Trinidad.

How many CB1100 riders owned CB750s back in the day?
I didn't.

My ride back in 1965 - 1967 was a twin. a BSA Spitfire Scrambler.
My question is ..... much as I like how the CB1100 is able to get down the road, am I permanently addictedly to the way twins make power?

I find it hard to fall in love with the way 4 cylinder UJMs make power.
