This is interesting. I just unwittingly conducted an experiment in object permanence and socialization on my coworkers.

I ride to work daily, and park in a spot close to the front door of my office. So, each morning and evening, my 15 coworkers file past either my red CB or my black Bonneville. They see me go outside about an hour after I arrive and cover whichever bike it is. None of my coworkers is bike-savvy. They either see "red bike" or "black bike", but each is distinct in its appearance.

Today, however, due to the high winds, I decided to put my CB inside my shop area behind the office so the cover doesn't slap my bike around in the wind.

So far, two different coworkers who have come out the shop area have seen my bike parked inside have said "Dude, did you just get a new bike?"

"No, this is the same one you always see in the parking lot, it's just inside now."

"Are you sure? This looks different."

"Yes, I'm sure."

Is it the mental picture that a vehicle parked inside is so out of context that it must be a different vehicle?

Is it the mental image of a vehicle indoors being in a showroom, and is therefore new?

...for a picture of the mounting of the IAC valve. This is what appears to be a complete throttle body unit with everything. The injectors, TPS, part of the air box, the harness, and for some reason the oil cooler.
I don't know if anyone wants to do some experimenting, or maybe even just some spare parts "just in case", but they have all of this....about $2,000 or so in parts.....listed for....

[b]after seeing ben's plexistar 2, I decided to buy one.. it came in yesterday and I installed it.. my old hellfire isn't bad, but I found it to be short by about 2 inches in height.. when I tried to get the correct angle of deflection, it made the hellfire even shorter !! .. the plexistar gives me just what I wanted.. I took the plexistar out for a test ride today.. I am very happy !! .. here are some of my pics with captions ..

Just fitted one of these on a Shoei RF1200. Super simple to get going and the new voice activated features work amazing, better then Siri on my iPhone. The JBL speakers sounds pretty good, about as good as ear buds but much more comfortable.

Haven’t tried the mesh communications yet because I have no friends with a motorcycle right now (which makes you wonder why I bought it) but everything else has worked awesome.

I read this morning that MotoGP will be returning to Brazil after an 18 year absence. I think they are on the calendar for 2021 to 2026.

Not sure how big or populated Brazil is, but I did read nearly 1,000,000 (a million if I have enough zeros lol) motorcycles were sold in Brazil last year. (About twice as many as sold in the US by all manufacturers combined from what I gather.)

Assume they are mostly 350cc and smaller units.

Honda sold 775,000 of them.

Hey guys, I have a set of black SW motech crash bars on my bike now however I'm thinking about getting a moriwaki exhaust for my '13 and I'm afraid of the exhaust being a contact point to the ground should the bike go down. Is there any kind of rear type of thing to bolt onto a more rear section of the bike to prevent it from taking a full hit on the exhaust?

I am considering purchasing an enclosed cargo trailer to use primarily as winter storage for my three bikes, one of which is a CB1100 with sidecar. I’d also like to make this trailer somewhat suitable for camping. I don’t need all of the conveniences of a modern RV, but some basic wants would include insulation, floor and wall coverings, 12V power and 110 electrical, and at least one window. The rest of the things I can take care of.

Was wondering if anyone else has attempted this type of endeavor and if so, any tips?

Due to my freeway commute, I split lanes for about 8-9 of my 12 mile door-to-door ride in the morning. I'm on the 55 Freeway, which splits Orange County north-south, riding in the carpool lane, which is still pretty backed up during rush hour. In the interest of promoting positive rider-driver relations, when safe, my left hand is always at the ready to give a quick wave to any car that noticeably moves to the left as I approach to give me more room.

I've found that as I tend to pass many of the same cars and trucks that are on the same commute, more people have started to move over. Not sure, but maybe drivers watching their mirrors might see the car behind them move left, and see that quick wave as I pass. Maybe they want to get that wave too, so they move. I've never had a car knowingly crowd or block me.

In any case, over the past few weeks, I've paid closer attention to what kinds of cars tend to move most frequently for me, and how far to the left they move. The cars that are the most attentive and most accommodating in descending order are:

Tesla
Nissan Leaf
BMW I3
Toyota Mirai
Honda Clarity
Contractor pickup/flatbed/van
Plug-in Hybrids, regardless of brand

I can see contractor trucks moving over - these are working guys, maybe they're riders as well.

But the rest of the list represents single drivers in the car pool lane who are there by virtue of the car they are driving. In California, electric, hydrogen and plug-in hybrids can use the car pool without a passenger, just as a motorcycle can. As I made the list, I wondered if they share some sort of camaraderie with me as someone who is enjoying the car pool lane based on vehicle choice.

Just an interesting observation.
