  Electric vehicle charging in winter
Posted by: ride4now_imp - 02-19-2021, 12:06 PM - Forum: Motorcycling - General - Replies (23)

Has anyone seen the most recent ‘Long Way’ series on Apple TV... Long Way Up? We’ve seen all 3 Long Way treks and thought this one was really good. With the current bitter cold in Texas and much of the country, it got me thinking about the problems that they were having on the show with getting the bikes to take a charge when it was so cold at the start of their trip. Unless that was a Harley issue, it sure seems to me that electric vehicles might not be very practical in winter, especially where it gets very cold, unless you have a heated garage. Does anyone have any thoughts on that?

Was there a ‘moment’ for you........?
Posted by: Jfro5687_imp - 02-18-2021, 03:16 AM - Forum: Motorcycling - General - Replies (31)

Hi all. I have two grown up kids, one is 25, the other 26. I have never encouraged m/cycles to them, neither has shown any interest and there is a part of me that’s pleased. They are more dangerous.

Anyhow. I’m the only one in my family who rides, brother and sister again not interested. So why do I?

When I was a kid, about maybe 7 or 8 years old I CLEARLY remember being in the back of the car (with younger brother and sister) and mum & dad up front. Would have been around 1976/1977. We were coming back from visiting my uncle and a group of motorbikes came up behind our car on this country road. Think Mad Max. There was about 20 of them in a big group.

I now know they couldn’t overtake because of the roads but as a kid I was mesmerized by the sounds, the spectacle so watched them out of the back window as dad drove along. They were right behind us. After what seemed like ages they one by one roared past, I wound the window down, barged my sister out the way and stuck my head out the window. Some had three pipes, some had four. They were all colours, sounded magic to me. It looked so exciting. I now know they were probably Z900’s, big Honda’s, Suzuki’s and triples and two strokes.

That was my ‘moment’. I knew then and there I was going to have one of those one day.

I know the exact stretch of the road where this happened and once a blue moon I go on that road, it always takes me back.

Any of you have a similar thing?

Imagine the winter riding possibilities if attached to a lump?
Posted by: GoldOxide_imp - 02-18-2021, 01:44 AM - Forum: Other Bikes - Replies (9)

Okay, this is pushing the edge too far, but it is technically still an "Other Bike".

The twist proposed here is to imagine the next person strapping a gasoline-powered lump to this incarnation?

Nevertheless, are you immobile during the cold and frozen winter? (where applicable, of course).

Consider this for your DIY hobby ways:

  Any NT700V "Deauville" owners?
Posted by: Scotty_imp - 02-17-2021, 01:24 AM - Forum: Other Bikes - Replies (10)

I think one or two of you have had a Deauville. I've been looking at adding an ST1300 to my garage, but the lighter weight, shaft drive, and wind protection of the NT700V have got me thinking too.
Thank you,
Scotty

Oh, and I don't plan on doing much 2-up riding (unfortunately).

  Triumph Trident 660
Posted by: Indypikes_imp - 02-16-2021, 06:41 PM - Forum: Other Bikes - Replies (19)

Anyone else like the looks of the new Trident? This 80 HP Triple looks like a nice Roadster. Coming in at under $8K I believe that this will be a good seller. Triumph continues to surprise me with it's product offerings. I believe a recent edition of Rider Magazine had a first look and really liked it as well. I want one!!

  Ignition switch live accessory wire?
Posted by: ozigoo - 02-16-2021, 05:28 PM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (10)

I want to add in an accessory, that is powered by a live wire that turns on and off with the ignition switch. ie when you turn on the bike its live and when you turn off the bike its not.
Can anyone direct me towards a place/wire to splice into? maybe even a spot on the fuse box. i have an inline fuse on the accessory.
Any help gratly appreciated..
cheers

  motorcycle magazines refund
Posted by: Houtman_imp - 02-16-2021, 05:45 AM - Forum: Motorcycling - General - Replies (11)

Today I received a refund for unsend copies of English motor cycle magazines from Motorsport Publications based in Wisconsin . The letter said that they no longer will deal in magazines from the UK. At least they send me a refund for subscriptions paid , better than Consumer Motor Cycle , they never send the money back I paid them for a 3 year subscription . In the spring of 2020 I took out a 3 year subscription for a USA based MINI magazine and I NEVER got the first issue as they went out of business as well. Covid must have played havoc with the magazine business .

RS custum paint scheme - please comment !

I'd be very curious about your comments to this custom paint scheme, boring ... lovely .... etc ?
This is a 2017 RS, originally black, the former owner needed a change in colors (and a comfy seat).
