  ABS - help needed
Posted by: The Gecko_imp - 10-30-2022, 08:19 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (19)

I know there is quite a bit of insight scattered over many posts, but it is hard to apply this knowledge to my (recent) problem. Any help would be really welcome. Here is what happens on my m/c:

- turn ignition on : ABS light on as expected
- start engine and roll : light goes off, as expected
- riding : no issues
However, when you brake hard enough with the rear brake the wheel blocks and the ABS light comes on and stays on until you turn the ignition off, Wink
- I have not tried with the front brakes.

This seems to indicate that the valve inside the ABS unit (which is supposed to release the pressure and open up the brake momentarily) does not operate when needed BUT the unit cannot tell when the self test is run at start. Would you have any idea what could be wrong ? or what I can do before taking her to the dealer and spend a fortune ?
Thanks !!

  Don't Smoke This Jacket
Posted by: Gone in 60 - 10-28-2022, 08:30 AM - Forum: Riding Gear - Replies (27)

So, in my heroic days of weight loss, around 2011, I was gleefully buying new motorcycle gear for my slim shape. One of them was a Joe Rocket Hemp jacket in Medium. It had been made just for a year or so, and apparently wasn't too popular, as I had no problem getting one on a deep clearance discount back then.

These days, I'm more of a size large, and that's where my happy spot seems to be. The hemp jacket still fits, due to Joe Rocket's generously American vanity sizing, and it's still my favorite comfy jacket, but I figured that if I could ever find one in large, I'd grab it. I've seen a few here and there, but never in large.

Well, one finally came up, and local to me as well! I got it for next to nothing, too. Perhaps that's because it has plenty of what looks like either red bug juice or taco sauce stains, and what's left of the ancient armor is crumbled and floating around inside of the lining. But, hopefully Mrs. Gone, aka "The Stain Queen" can get it cleaned up for me, and I can transfer the newer armor over from my smaller one.

I just can't smoke it!

  A song for the CB1100
Posted by: The Gecko_imp - 10-26-2022, 10:28 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (28)

Do you play music while riding ? I do all the time. There is some good music for everything. And since CB1100 fans are all - more or less - of similar age I'd like to do two things, tell you which song fits the CB1100 perfectly (in my opinion), and ask you to find a better one and post it. Only condition, it had to be initially published in the 1970 or 1980 (so no hip-hop, okay ?)

Here is my (perfect) song for our bike:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm1q1XoN_Qo
Tell me what you think AFTER you rode the CB home listening to it.

If you like the idea please click the star rating in the list of posts.
Now ... enjoy !!!

  Insurance

I received a shock yesterday. Geico wants $760.00 per year to insure the CB in Texas!! I can't believe this BS! I am certainly no young noob, I've been riding for 50 years. What are you fellow TX riders paying for insurance and what kind of coverage with what company?

  New helmet - cheap prices
Posted by: ozigoo - 10-25-2022, 09:36 PM - Forum: Riding Gear - Replies (7)

So I needed a new helmet, mine was over 10 years old and didnt fit as well as it should as the foam was definatley worn. Tried a few on in the shops and the one that fit the best was a Shoei GT Air 2, however it was the most expensive one at AU$1100 and I wasnt prepared to spend that much.
I looked online and found Champion Helmets in the Netherlands who had free shipping worldwide. The same exact helmet was AU$650 almost 1/2 price.
This was for either a plain matt black or white, I decided to get one with decals for an extra AU$100. So for AU$750 my helmet arrived 2 weeks after I ordered it. Very professional and helpful company, answered all my questions immediatley,so I highly recommend them to anyone needing a new helmet...
