Some time ago, IIRC, someone posted a photo of a CB1100 with a Lucas style tail light, (from J&P I believe). Does anyone have a photo or a link to a photo? Thanks!

Seeing that my usual parts suppliers (Ron Ayers & Bike Bandit) have yet to list anything newer than 2011 models, what do you guys recommend as a parts supplier?
I was wanting to buy a new rear, oem Dunlop but the dealer I bought my CB from quoted me $200 for the tire.
Looking around on the net I saw a couple places that offered the same tire for $165, but not knowing the companies I was reluctant to make the purchase. Suggestions?

Here are some pictures of a seat I had made a few weeks ago. This was done using the U.S. OEM seat. I paid $425 for this to be done but $50 was for the special RED thread used. The thread is UV protected and thicker than what is usually used on motorcycle seats.

Sorry for the long post; I'm new here but not new to forums. I'm very active on thumpertalk.com and thegearpage.net.

Background:

I'm soon to turn 22 and graduate college. I've owned a '12 Honda XR650L (dual sport) for about a year; it was my first motorcycle. If any of you know anything about that bike, you'll know that it's old technology and there are a million aftermarket parts available.

So I start digging into it: new exhaust, carb mods and rejet, foam filter, new tank, fork brace, racks, bags, sprockets, bars, front fender, barkbusters...the list goes on and on. It seems like I keep throwing money at it but it's still an old technology bike no matter how much I do to it.

Besides that, I've found myself riding trails less and highways/interstates more. So a pure road bike has become more and more appealing.

Now to the CB1100:



I'm thinking this might be the bike for me. I'm really digging the 2014 standard model with the blacked out engine, body, and wheels. It looks really comfortable and it would be loads better on the interstate. Plus it's EFI, which is a big deal - I'm sick of carbs!

What I really like is that there is a finite amount of things I would want to do to it: Yoshi black exhaust, Power Commander V, Dart tinted flyscreen, and a black painted front fender (I don't like chrome).

And...that's it. That's all I'd want to do to it. The thing with the 650L is that I feel like I'm always one mod away from being done, but with the CB1100 I can do those 4 (albeit expensive) mods and just enjoy the bike as is after that.

Thoughts?

my wife and I love riding motorcycles to cool places. It would be hard to pick one place or road as the coolest we've ever been to, but I am going to say riding over Beartooth Highway between Montana and Wyoming, was one of the coolest. I think it is numbered Rt 212, about 70 miles of sheer rugged mountainous beauty full of vertical switchbacks huge elevation changes and it leads in Yellowstone Natl Park. The day my wife and I rode it it was so hot down low we had our jackets strapped atop the trunk. About 1/2 way up, we pulled over to put our jackets back on and there was snow all around us. The jagged peaks reminded me of the Alps we had seen in Europe. The biggest difference is we were able to see this spectacle without flying for 1/2 a day in a plane, to a country that we don't speak the language, then have to take a train ride, then rent a motorcycle. We were able to ride to it straight from our front door. Well, We live in Ohio, it wasn't exactly straight from the front door. It was like 1700 miles from the front door... But believe me, it was well worth the trip.

I knew Doug very well. he was from Michigan. Worked for a Husqvarna dealer by the name of Gene Richie. Gene was the promoter and owner of the Mich. Red Bud Naitonal MX where Nationals were held for years. I rode around the MX track on the back of Dougs Maico, ( while he was doing a wheelie around the entire track, over jumps, up hill, down hills, etc. ) I lost that bet and had to buy dinner. 1976 or 1977

On November 6, 2012, I had a minor crash on my VStrom 1000 that turned out to be not so minor. Even though the crash basically consisted of me and the bike falling over, I broke the top of my femur (the big "ball" at the top of the bone) off. An ambulance ride to the hospital, surgery to put 3 big pins into the bones, 5 months of no riding. I finally started riding again shortly after I got the CB last March, and I was doing ok until about 3 months ago. Then the pins started coming out, the end of the bone died, and I developed a horrible limp because the joint was collapsing leaving my left leg almost an inch shorter than the right.

January 27, 2014, I went into the hospital and had one of the leading hip replacement surgeons do his thing. Two days later I was walked out of the hospital with a cane. The past two weeks I've been getting better virtually on a daily basis. I cut the lawn Saturday. I'm now walking with almost no limp, and I expect by the end of this week I'll be cane-free.

TODAY I RODE MY CB AGAIN!! It's about 65 degrees and sunny out, so I just had to get on that bike. I only went a couple miles, but damn it felt great. And I got to try my brand-new Nolan N104, which is an awesome lid.

What an amazing time we live in. To think I could be in such terrible shape only a few weeks ago, and now it looks like I'll recover to being virtually as fit as I was before the accident, is a gift from God.

I can't wait to show up for the Sunday ride with the South Florida Rider's Club. They're going to cuss when they see me ride up!

Can anybody please comment on passenger comfort? My wife refuses to go on any rides longer than 200 miles with my VFR800, and I'm wondering if she will be more comfortable if I purchase the CB1100. I would like to put a small back rest on it for her.
