BUT... the two halfs won't fit together unless you have the round pin on the lower half seated in a hole on the bar. The two halves must be fitted with the top and bottom bits needing to be mated... The two halves that need to be mated are on the the outside and front of the switchgear. It usually goes in place without fiddling once you have the the botom half round tab seated in the hole I mentioned.
As far as removing the cables... hehe If you read the instructions, it says: Step 1 - totally disassemble bike. Step 2 - put pieces in a box and remainder in the back of your pickup and drive to a Honda shop.
Seriously, it is a PAIN. Having a factory service manual is needed as well as the instructions for installing heated grips. The factory manual doesn't give you a clue as to how to remove/replace cables. Only one cable adjusts, by the way... the pull open cable. I have attached the heated grips write up which is useful. I didn't follow the instructions and loosened the locknut for the throttle cable at the bottom by removing tank and taking off the smaller and larger hoses on the left side of the bike (they keep you from getting a shot at the locknut and adjuster) as well as a couple of electrical connectors. It was awkward as I have ham fists but can be done. The little blurb in the shop manual that the heated grip instruction points to is also a MUST READ. I don't have a soft copy of the manual (bought hard copy).
Hope this helps some as you WILL NOT remove or reinstall the throttle cable otherwise.
