Spent all day on Father's Day riding around yesterday with my buddies. At one point this one car just kept pulling up alongside me and checking out the bike. When we finally came to a stop light they rolled down the window and asked me if it was a 'Barn Find"? I still love the look of surprise on peoples faces when they learn it is a modern bike.

Anyone who actually lived through that era understands the magic of the CB, regardless of what type of bike they ride. Those that didn't just don't understand what the point is (except for those rare few young guys with wisdom beyond their years.)

At the rally last month, I was amazed at all of the photography going on whilst riding. We had Ferret and others with camera's always at the ready...shooting this and that while walking and while riding. Note... I had tried this camera idea on a string before...but decided I didn't like it. Well... I tried it again yesterday morning on a little ride up Florida's west coast. Apologies first...I'm not on my CB. It is still in Georgia hopefully being cleaned up by its newly installed RLETS. Here's a few photos... There not nearly as good as Ferretts and others..and the scenery isn't as good either (no mountains or waterfalls).











The last one is for proof that I was moving.

The trick is...the relative thinness of the gloves and the size of the shutter button. And of course as Ferrett would say... I'm not endorsing doing anything outside of ones comfort zone. Safety is more important than getting that next shot. But the camera idea on a string around the neck seems to be a great idea that I'm going to adopt going forward. It sure beats stopping, taking the gloves off, then searching for the phone... Thanks Ferrett!

Then, as I said earlier, since my brothers were busy or lazy to find themselves imprisoned or simply somewhere to chat in front of a couple of beers, I took the opportunity to go to visit the Ossuary of Custoza.
The ossuary, is a monument in memory of the two battles that took place at Custoza (near Verona near Peschiera and not very far from the flow of the river Mincio), the first in 1848 in what was the First War of Independence of the United Sardinian and the Austrian Empire, and the second in 1866 during the Third War of Independence between the newborn Kingdom of Italy and the Austrian Empire.
Should be noted that both the battles did not have a favorable outcome to the counterparty Savoy, but even during the Third War of Independence the Kingdom of Italy by the Austrians Busco is in Custoza (on the ground) that Lissa (by sea), while with the troops of Garibaldi's volunteers got a hit in Trentino, the fact that Prussia (allied Italy) had loudly sung the north to the Austro-Hungarians, forcing them to declare the end of hostilities in fact giving the Veneto Emperor Napoleon III who gave it to the Kingdom of Italy in 1866 precisely.

I did this ride back on June 1st. I needed to go to Estes Park to get my license plate for the CB, the paper plate had only 4 more days left. Trail Ridge road in Rocky Mtn. Nat. Park had recently opened so I thought, why not check it out. I entered the park and stopped at a lower elevation pull out.

At the "tourist trap" at the top of Trail Ridge I met some Australian Riders who had rented bikes in the Denver area for 3 weeks of riding. Several BMW GS versions, a KTM and a Tiger.

We had a KLR tech day/cookout/swim party yesterday and it got me thinking. I did a quick search and didn't see this discussed before.

I find it interesting how different bikes attract different kinds of folks. Speaking from my limited observations and in really broad generalizations, it seems that doctors and dentists ride BMWs, lawyers and car mechanics ride Harleys, Aircraft mechanics, engineers, retired cops and retired military ride KLRs. All good people, all having fun. So what's the thread that ties CB1100 riders? Maybe we mostly rode in the '70s on bikes that look like the CB? Pilots seem to like them, though maybe pilots just like this forum A thread polling careers would be interesting.

Anyone want to post up with their career/hobbies beyond the CB? I'll start...

I am 58, run a t-shirt company and rode a CB400f in the '70s.

Well, long for me anyway. Did a 250 mi. loop hwy. 285 through Fairplay, Co and through Breckenridge, Silverthorne and over Loveland pass and back home on I-70. This is my favorite view in all of Colorado, on Kenosha pass looking west over South park wilderness and the snow covered Mosquito mtn. range. Still a good bit of snow up high. Like usual it was very windy along that flat straight stretch of 285. Rode north out of Fairplay through the town of Alma. Had to stop and get a pic of the highest bar in North America, and just up the road a block was the highest saloon in North America. Approx. 10 mi. north is Hoosier pass, 11,500 ft. Rode north through Breckenridge, very crowded so didn't stop there, off to Silverthorne for lunch. Then all fat and full I piled on the CB and went over Loveland pass. Saw a bighorn sheep on the way up Loveland pass on the shoulder, luckily it stayed there. So about 6 hrs. and one tired butt later I was home chilin' under the swamp cooler. This was the first time I rode any of these roads on a bike, and can't wait to do it again. Next time I think I'll do it counter clockwise to avoid I-70 traffic down the hill, that 80 mph bumper to bumper was a bit unnerving. I have a few personal days left at work so I'll get away during the week one of these times.

Have you made new friends and met enthusiasts like yourself? Have these friendships enhanced your quality of life beyond just riding?
C'mon, spill it!

My new Road Comet 1 will be here in another few weeks. Before I mount it up, I want to give it a thorough coat or two of something to protect its finish. Here in the south, a couple times a year, we get to deal with "love bugs" which if left on too long will eat into paint. Plus the usual finish compromising road grunge etc.
Anyone have any thoughts on a product that would be good to consider?
I think with any luck, discussion could lead to another epic thread to rival oil, tires and who knows what else.

My beautiful CB1100 - only 3.5k miles on her - wrecked.

I recently went on a group ride with a couple people I knew and many I did not know, and about an hour and a half into the ride, I misjudged a curve and low sided.

The right side of my tank was really banged up, and my handlebars were badly skewed, but several guys in the group worked together to bend the bars back into rideable-ish shape. Since we (my husband was on the ride with me) were northeast of Carson (no cell signal), we couldn't call for a tow; and because there was no other major damage to the bike, we decided to ride it back about 20 miles where we might get a signal. Actually, my ribs and right knee were so beat up I couldn't wrestle with the torqued bars, so I rode my husband's ZRX and he rode my CB.

We ended up just riding the 80 miles back home (couldn't get a signal where we had stopped) and took the bike into our favorite shop (Vicious Cycle). Damage estimate from both the shop and our insurance totaled the bike (just $1.5k functional damage and over $9k cosmetic damage).

We took the payout and bought back the salvage, so the functional and a little of the cosmetic damage is being fixed and I should get her back in a couple weeks, but I so wish I had made better choices and this had never happened!

As for me, I did crack a rib (just a hairline fracture thank goodness!) and did some tissue damage to my knee, but aside from LOTS of bruising and soreness, I got very doggone lucky!!!
