I rode my CB1100 Deluxe to the Born Free (7) chopper show yesterday. This is a large gathering of 20/30-something hipsters. I had several kids ask me about my CB1100. Was happy to see they have such a keen interest in something that wasn't V-Twin powered. http://bornfreeshow.com/

I will soon be taking Puffnlola's crashed CB off his hands and a friend will be dragging it down to the Sunshine State! As it turns out I have a good buddy who lives a little north of Puff who makes periodic trips to and fro, which will negate having to use a shipper. Also, I have several of the parts needed for the repairs from a CB stash I acquired from another friend that are left over from his taking the cafe route.
Puff was very accommodating and texted me a ton of photos. We talked on the phone today and had a great conversation. You guys know I've been searching for a while, happy the search is over. Thanks to Puff who exemplifies the type of quality folk that are found on this forum. If y'all are interested, I'll keep you up to speed on the project TTFN!

My CB has the Honda rear luggage rack. Have you installed a saddle bag support that works well with it?

Installed the Yoshimura full exhaust system, and noticed the oil filter was close to the header. Wasn't sure if I'd have to loosen the exhaust to remove the filter; fortunately there's just enough room

Here's a shot of the filter to header clearance with the filter completely unthreaded and ready to be removed. Hope this might help if you're thinking of getting this exhaust.

For this mornings ride I decided to give you and idea of the area I live in, which is rural sw Ohio. Made up of small farm community towns.

Going east on State Route 125 from my house the first village you come to is Bethel

Bethel has 2 traffic lights, a theatre which as you can see has limited offerings and play times,

on the way out of town is a street name sign I complained about for all 24 years I was in the Highway Traffic Safety business. The state came along and finally put up a new one, even though it wasn't their responsibility) but since then no one has removed the old one lol

Continuing east we come to the village of Hamersville. No lights. Not much there. Bit of a speed trap.

They do have a gas station that only serves regular. Since the CB was down to 2 bars I went ahead and stopped and filled up. If I were on my ST which requires Premium I would have had to drive 5 miles further east to a bigger town

That next town in Georgetown. The UDF there has premium lol. Anyhow Georgetown has 2 lights on the main drag.

Georgetown has 3 claims to fame. They host the County Fair at the fair grounds. Famed wildlife artist John Ruthven lives there, and 18th President Ulyses S Grant lived there about a dozen years when he was a kid.

In Georgetown I turned south on Rt 220. In these parts, any road running north to south is a good one if you like curves. They will generally follow a creek, in this case White Oak Creek.

the flat rocks from the creek have been used for a century to build rock walls and foundations for buildings. believe it or not they were dry stacked which means no mortar, and many are still standing 100 years later. there are miles and miles of these dry stack walls along roads like this

This road dead ends in a town called Higgensport on the Ohio River on St Rt 52 aka the Ohio River Scenic byway. From here we will head west.

Lake Shore Drive in Chicago is one of those select stretches of road to be memorialized in song. The lyrics above were penned by Skip Haynes and became the band Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah's one pop hit, "Lake Shore Drive" in 1971. Interestingly enough, it was recorded on my 9th birthday - August 7, 1970.

The idea of a CB1100 ride along this famed roadway was hatched as a result of specialist8's post this spring featuring an aerial photo of The Drive. It developed into a morning-long trip from Chicago's famed Museum Campus, north as far as prestigious Lake Forest, and ending at a soon to be iconic diner in Deefield. Eight of us committed to the ride and we were fortunate enough to only have two riders with last-minute conflicts. Setchman and drodg were missed, but I'm sure that there will be another CB1100 Forum - Chicagoland Chapter ride in the future.

The weather was absolutely perfect for riding by the time that Fritzwilliger (Bill) and I met on the north side of the city to ride together to the rendezvous point. Veech (Vic) and Stratus (Richard) also rode in together, I believe, and talked to each other wirelessly on the way in and on the ride itself - the latter communication no doubt criticizing my riding skills, but maybe I'm just paranoid Having five great riders watching my every move. Specialist8 (Dave) and Todd_K (Todd, just in case there was some doubt) eounded out the group.

Seeing Fritzwilliger arrive on time for our pre-meet up was a good omen. I chose to ignore the sign in the background as any sort of foreshadowing....


Proving that it's not only nostalgic, middle-aged men whose heads are turned by the CB1100's classic lines. Women and even dogs can't keep their eyes off it...


The Field Museum of Natural History came into being as a result of The World's Columbian Exposition of 1893. They had a motto in the 60s that went something like "The Field Museum brings the world to Chicago." A fitting place, I think, for a gathering of these motorcycles that pay their own homage to history. On a personal note, my grandfather worked as a guard at the museum when I was a kid.

Everyone was on time and excited for the ride...

Last Friday, I did a round trip with some friends thru the Austrian Alps.

At 6 AM I was on the road to ride 190 km to the meeting point at Wertach, Allgäu, Germany. We were a group of 10 riders 8 Beemers, 1 Triumph Tiger, 1 CB1100.

After having some coffee and breakfast together, we started our ride, 322 km thru the really beautiful scenery of the Alps. Well, sorry, I'm a very lazy photographer, no more pictures. However this was our route, which I recorded with my Garmin gps device:

In the evening, returned to Wertach, we shared some time together, before I rode back home 190 km. I really enjoy these long summer days. Sunset was around 9:30 PM, 10 PM I was at home.

I do not read Japanese. I need information for the install of the bracket for the centerstand stop. Where/how does it go on?

The plan was to fish some smaller streams and holes I've spotted while driving through the areas previously. Most of these areas are along roads and this is why I bought the Honda in the first place. A bike than can get me and my gear to areas like this and when pressed can go down a well maintained or semi rutted forest road and save me a ton in the cost of gas doing it. I averaged close to 50 mpg on this trip with 345 miles. Left yesterday at 8 AM and got back. today around 3 pm. Fishing was poor which is what you would expect for trout on days were the temps go into the high 80's under a cloudless sky. Since I primarily fish dry flys on the surface and was too lazy to tie on nymphs or streamers I wasn't helping myself. At any rate...it was stellar riding and camping weather.

Top of Monte Cristo in the Wasatch Mountains of Northern Utah....Approx 9000 feet in altitude. Wasatch Crest in the distance



Road I took into and out of Wyoming coming off the summit of Monte Cristo. This is looking east into Wyoming as I took the picture on the way back home. The aspect is deceiving because of the pano mode. The road is actually going downhill and off to the right you can see it twisting off into the canyon below



Entrance to the canyon I camped in about 140 miles from my house. this is a spring feed creek and I fished it for about 25 minutes without any luck



There were about 25 of these small waterfalls in a little over a mile



About 5 miles up the road I set up camp.


From there I rode to a private water I'm allowed to fish on



For 3 hours the bugs and heat oppressively chased me around the water. I came back to camp late in the evening as sun set and just then a breeze picked up through the aspens.

Got up today and rode back out to the main road where pavement starts. This was about 3 miles from where I camped



Before I went into town to get gas I rode down a small valley to check out access to the water. Unfortunately all of this pristine waterway was private with no public access.

Once I topped off I ran north and west into Idaho to a town called Montepellier, famous for being the scene of a Butch Cassidy bank robbery. I followed the west shore of Bear lake south back into Utah....then around the southern tip of the lake (approx. 20 miles north to south) back into Wyoming and then ultimately back into Utah...over Monte Cristo... the following pictures follow that route.
