Odd fill-up today.
#1
Did our local 700km "Duffey Lake loop" today. Filled up and emptied three times first tank 230 kms; second tank 155kms; third tank 220 kms. No real difference in speed or riding conditions. I've got bad gas before, but dang, never anything like that. Felt lucky not to be stranded, as I usually push my fill-ups to the limit on routes I know. Makes me wonder how much of our mileage variation is simply due to the quality of fuel in our respective areas.

Are you sure that you filled to the same level? Otherwise I guess your right. But it seems incredible that bad petrol would make such a difference to mileage without some kind of performance effect, right up to the engine quitting.

Wow! A thirty percent decrease in fuel efficiency under the same riding conditions. Something's wrong. Your right, could be the fuel. In city riding where I very rarely get above second gear for long periods I will get maybe 180kms out of a tank. While touring I am confident of at least 230kms and some to spare, maybe up to 250kms. Bear in mind when you look at those figures my tank ('10 model) has slightly less capacity than a '13 model.

Cheers and hope you sort it out.

If there was no performance decrease, (but I wonder if the engine management would adjust for less quality gas and as such would somewhat hide the fact from the rider) then the other explanation could be that you did not really receive 12.85L. That gas station's pump is seriously cheating customers, whether intentional or not.

Around here, the County government has a Bureau of Weights and Measures under their Law and Public Safety umbrella, and quite frequently tests gas station pumps for not just accuracy, but that the correct grade of fuel is really being dispensed. Maybe you should call whatever agency handles such things and file a complaint?

When I fill up, I view the amount of fuel in the tank and fill to the same spot every time. I assume Kmoney does the same? There is no way the pump is going to cheat me out of 30% of the gas I pumped in by the gauge. It would show up physically as not being full when I peer in.
