  Advice sought please
Posted by: Bokobob_imp - 11-01-2015, 11:02 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (52)

Hello. I am thinking of buying a left over new 2014 cb1100 standard for a huge discount from list price. I am most satisfied with the quoted price...However, aside from that, I am wondering about comfort seeing as how I am 79 years old, and although very spry for my age (and I have several bikes). I rode the bike in question and it was beyond wonderful. I only rode if for 20 minutes and it felt comfy...I am wanting to get feedback on those who have ridden it longer with a STOCK seat.

My question is, what is your opinion of comfort on this stock seat for a ride of an hour or more?

Thank you for your opinions.

Bob

  Fitting Yoshimura Centre Stand Stopper
Posted by: beardyweirdy@me.com_imp - 11-01-2015, 11:14 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (4)

Hi all,
Eventually, after a three month wait, my Yoshimura Centre Stand Stopper has arrived... But with no fitting instructions, fitting kit, etc.
Has anyone fitted fitted one on here?
It's a fairly hefty bracket and it looks to me like it fits over the top of the centre stand lugs on the frame.
I'm thinking I should remove the CS spindle, slip the CS stopper over the frame lugs for the CS and then re-fit the CS spindle.

I'm going to have a go at it on Wednesday, but if anyone's got any advice, it would be great to hear it... Or put me right if I'm off the mark with the fitting.

Many thanks

Kev

2015 Fall Gathering in Death Valley
Posted by: rboe - 11-01-2015, 11:12 AM - Forum: Seat Time - Replies (11)

This a Moto Guzzi Gathering, but my Griso is on injured reserve so the CB1100 got the nod for the trip. Frankly the Griso has spoiled me in touring, easy motor to live with, Russell Day Long seat, heated grips; she is just a very good road machine.

The CB1100 turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. The motor was not busy, got better mileage (at least when the wind wasn't pushing us all over the place on day one) and the Lamm seat performed fairly well (yes, faint praise, the RDL has big shoes, tempted to get one for the CB now). Power wise it did not have the point and shoot power of the Griso, but she will get up and scoot when needed. Meets my real world needs for power 100%.

Hardly; I'm thinking that in the real world the CB meets the Griso head on and beats it in the tight twisties. Turns out the CB handles fast sweepers just fine thank you. A sprint to 100mph showed she had very nice poise. And the brakes are better - by a touch.

She also handled the nasty head wind better than expected.

I have not run all the numbers but the worst mileage I've checked was 39 bucking the wind. 51mph the best I've seen so far on the trip. I think I got close to 55 in some sections (we had a coasting contest - I was beat by a KLR!! as well as other bikes. sigh.).

The windscreen needs some work. Too much turbulence making for too much helmet noise. Here are some pics - otherwise it didn't happen. Angel
I'm experimenting with some Chinese Hella horns. Work in progress.
Top photo, parking lot this morning at Zabriskie Point, Death Valley, CA. Two and four, parking lot at Dante's View, Death Valley, CA on Saturday morning just before sunrise. I don't recall where number three was taken.

2013 CB1100 Parts on the Bay
Posted by: Redbird_imp - 11-01-2015, 07:49 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (1)

I noticed today that RubberSideUpLlc has put several 2013 parts on EBay, including an engine, Dunlop tires, seat, brake lever, brake disks, brake calipers, headlight, and others. The donor bike is said to have less then 1000 miles on it. Just a FYI - I have no connection with this seller.

  Portland IMS show
Posted by: RetroSeattle_imp - 10-31-2015, 02:37 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

I just returned from the Portland "International" motorcycle show. What a waste of time. Many of the major manufacturers including Honda, Yamaha, KTM, and others simply didn't show up. They sent local dealers to bring what didn't sell off of the showroom floor. Others like Triumph who did show up did not bring any of their newly announced models. This show has been in decline for many years and is now officially not worth going to anymore.

A toast to those who have moved on.

Had a thought I want to hear from former owners who still stalk the forum with what they traded their cb in for and why. As a chronic bike trader I'm plagued with this but honestly I can't imagine what compares to this machine its perfect for me. Every so often j want to believe its it dorsnt have enough power then i roll on a wheel stand in first gear or stick it in 3rd and get wide eyed and dump those thoughts. So come on let me hear it what came along that drew you astray and why further do you regret it.

Let's see your helmet(s). I don't want this to be about the qualities we think make ours the best out there. Just show them and if there's a story behind it, tell it.

In my case, it seems my head was designed and manufactured by HJC because it is the only brand I've tried that have felt comfortable. On the left my 3/4 FG-Jet and on the right my modu IS-Max Elemental.

Whatcha got?

Adjust rear suspension when going two-up?
Posted by: MikeOxbig_imp - 10-31-2015, 07:00 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Anyone here adjusting the rear suspension when taking a passenger? Just curious, I'm 175 lbs and my suspension is at the softest setting. Planning to take my girlfriend on a ride (she's about 108) and was wondering if I should bother changing the suspension one notch firmer.

I don't think a thread topic like this exists... Why not take a picture and post where you saw one... or... at the very least mention where it was seen. Might be fun.
Maybe put the town of the sighting first? Like this...

Clinton NJ -

I just noticed a 2014 Black Std ride through downtown Clinton NJ. I then saw it stop for gas a few miles down the road. I tried to take a picture from my car... but missed it.

Was this anyone from here?
