To remove any doubt that we're really all that 'proper', we'll leave you with a pic of The Lovely Z1BEBE on her '75 Z1-B getting ready to be A Bad Girl at the last MotoGP race that was held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Brickyard infield track. We had the opportunity to ride the infield track after practice the day before the race, and just had to stop at 'The Yard of Bricks' for a photo op. What came next was a minor 'fifteen minutes of fame' event:

In our intro we mentioned our other bikes.

We bought a His 'n Hers pair of '93 CB750 Nighthawks new. They're currently showing mid 70,000 miles on each. Z1BEBE's red 'Hawk is currently pickled for long storage, as she's pretty much decided to hang up her keys. I get my blue 'Hawk out a few times a month for a joyride, but it's not the same without her headlight on my five as it has been for decades. Selling both 'Hawks is on the front burner now to make way for a '17 CB1100EX we've found, if we choose to make that move.

Our 'Hawks remain box-stock, with the exception of the Targa fairings. The individual pics below were taken at the last Honda Hoot in Knoxville in '14(?). The pair together is at home two yrs. ago.


'93 was only year we're aware of that the CB750 was offered in two colors.

We've spent the past 25 yrs. or so completing a full production set collection of Z1's. slmjim bought his first Z1 new in March, '74; a green/yellow '74 Z1-A. It's the green/yellow bike with the very early Corbin seat & Lester mags.

The family photo below was taken before we acquired the basket case that was to become the final piece of the set; a '73 Z1 in green/yellow Euro livery. It's a PITA to get all the Z1's out of the shop & lined up for a family photo, so the green/yellow Euro lookalike resides in a pic by itself, as seen at Barber a few years ago. It's a runner, but still a work in progress, as it needs a long rear fender (waiting on chrome), seat with pillion strap (searching), and metric speedo (a unicorn in the U.S.). Correct Euro rear shocks sans reflectors are being installed this week.

Has anyone found or created a list of (the most) interesting episodes of "Itchy Boots" ? While it's been fun to see a few, the total number of vids is way beyond my patience to watch 300 of them in search of those with really nice horizons, landscapes, and light (or was it all about the human encounter ???)

Yesterday, my wife wanted to go look at Halloween decorations and to lunch. As I hadn't driven my truck in a while (2010 Honda Ridgeline), figured we'd take it. When I started it, the low tire pressure light came on for the left rear tire, so I pulled it over to the garage and topped off all 4, since all 4 were actually low. Left rear was just the lowest lol.

Anyhow when we got back home, I checked the odometer and it read 67,467. When I got in the house, I checked my calendar log to see what the odometer read on Jan 1st, which I always record at the beginning of the year. On Jan 1st it read 65,828.

Simple math 67,467 minus 65,828 gives you 1,639. So, this year I have driven my truck 1,639 miles.

My calendar also said as of yesterday, I had ridden my CB 1100 4,507 miles and my NC 750 12,360 miles so far this year for a total of 16,867 miles.

I've put a little over 10 times as many miles on the bikes, as on my truck so far this year.

Not sure this is mechanical/technical but I'll put it here anyway.

I bought my second 2013 standard a little over a year ago. It was in better shape than the first one but did normally idle high 1.9-2.1k or so. Occasionally it would come down for a bit but never really stay right. I thought it had to do with warming up or maybe outside temp. Basically I just dealt with it. It was really only bothersome at stop lights and pulling into the garage at night.

Suddenly things changed. About 6 weeks ago I got stuck in heavy stop-and-go traffic on 80 West in NJ heading to the Delaware Water Gap. It was pretty hot and I was on and off the clutch constantly. Pretty sore after a while. When I got out of the traffic and arrived at my meeting place, the idle was a nice low 900. Bike almost stalled in fact. I thought I had manifested another problem. Well to this day (no jinx), idle is perfect.

My half-brained theory: The woman I bought the bike from sold it because it was "too much for her." I think she was the second owner. It also came with loud yoshi exhaust. Some people like those I guess. I sold it and put the stock pipe back on. Maybe the first owner liked to hear the bike and revved it too much too often while at idle. Maybe the second owner wasn't a "perfect" rider and stalled too often from stops, so the bike "learned" her style and gave her extra gas when starting from a stop to help her not stall so much. Then after I had the bike for about 5k miles of absolute flawless riding, especially that trying day in traffic on 80, it learned that I don't need the extra gas to avoid stalling.

I'm pretty sure anthropomorphizing my CB doesn't provide the real answer. I'm just real happy to have a nice low idle back and super quiet bike.

I had signed up to test ride the Livewire Del Mar a while back at an event that took place this past Saturday in Huntington Beach. However, the previous weekend while stopping to check out Italian Bike Day at the Bike Shed, they were also doing Livewire demos, so I took the Livewire One for a spin.

Now that I’ve had a chance to ride both, I can ruminate on the experiences. Both of which are purely academic. With the One running at $30k, and the Del Mar at $15k, I’m not really in the market for either. However, price aside, with my daily riding, either would seemingly be ideal.

One thing you notice with both is the odd sensation of instant torque that is not accompanied by the noise you normally associate with the rapid acceleration of a motorcycle. Also, you want to grab a clutch that isn’t there for a few minutes.

I’m not up on the details and different types of electric charging, but while the Del Mar offers Level-2 charging, the One offers fast charging. I guess it should for double the price.

But, while the One is longer and has a more stretched-out, leaned forward riding position, the Del Mar has more of a standard, comfortable position. I could see myself riding it on a daily basis. The undertail features four large mounting screws, hinting at a future luggage rack option.

A nice experience overall. Who knows, maybe we’re all going to be looking at bikes like these in the future.
