  Rear Turn Signal relocation
Posted by: paulw_imp - 05-24-2017, 02:44 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (10)

I am going to relocate my turn signals to the rear licence plate bracket. All I need to do so is a source for raw bullet connectors to match the ones Honda uses. I have the wire I need and can solder. Anything I see on the web has wires attached and seems to be only 6" long or so. Any sources out there? Thanks

Ex-Honda champ Nicky Hayden... not forgotten
Posted by: R748_imp - 05-23-2017, 02:09 PM - Forum: Motorcycling - General - Replies (2)

As Honda fan's maybe you guys also remember the races over last 10 to 15 years and what a great guy Nicky came across as professionally and publicly at the top of his game and also on his way up.

Remembering fondly the duels with my other hero's on the track, the motox action off track and the spirit Nicky and guys like him bring to the sport many of us are passionate about.

Miss you Kentucky Kid.

A gentleman, an ambassador and a hero on the track.

ECU and airbox upgrades advice appreciated
Posted by: R748_imp - 05-23-2017, 01:56 PM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (7)

Hi all,

Interested to know what upgrades are recommended in a value-for-money type way from forum members. EG. PCV, EJK, various airfilters, removal (or not) of O2 sensors.

I'm riding with a full 4-4 (soon to be 4-2) system so would like to ensure fuelling is good. Not interested in chasing HP figures but would rather not run too lean/rich at varying rpm's.

Beers!

  CB1100 Speed Limiter.....maybe a cheap fix...just museing
Posted by: Wolfgang_imp - 05-23-2017, 08:36 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (9)

The CB1100 speed limiter can not be removed without disablement of the speedometer.

However, as we have all noticed....most motorcycle speedometers read 5 to 8 mph too high. (i.e. it indicates you are traveling at 60mph when your true speed is 52-55 mph)

I saw this in both my BWW and Kawasaki speedometers.

Now....back to the speed limiter.

In my case I simply want it to allow the bike to do at least 120 mph after I have had the ECU reflashed to remove the rev limiters, and a Yosh exhaust installed. That should make the bike quick enough and fast enough to avoid being embarressed by some Harley.

Now to the theoredical fix. The CB1100 has a sensor ring on the rear wheel that is used to determine the bike's speed. You can not remove the ring, or disconnect the speed limiter wire, without loss of the speedometer readout.

The CB1100 comes with a 140-70 18 in. rear tire. If you replace that tire, when it wears out, with a 140-80 18 in. tires the "taller" replacement tire will yield an increase is speed, over the 140-80 tire...of about 8-12% (conservatively) ....at the same rpm. (depending on the tire you select). What you are doing is changing the aspect ratio of the stock tire to a tire that is taller and has an increased diameter. Kind of like the old steam locomotives. They had limited revs to work with so they used smaller diameter driving wheels on freight locomotives that did not need to go fast, but pulled heavy loads.....and larger wheels on the passenger locomotives that pulled lighter loads and needed to enjoy increased speeds.

112% of 112 mph is about 125 mph.

If you are worried about losing acceleration due to the "taller" tire....drop the front sprocket on tooth. Generally that is worth a 8 - 10% reduction in gearing that will bring back the acceleration.

If you are worried about clearance the to front of the swing arm with a taller tire the smaller sprocket will give you a bit of chain slack and allow you to pull the rear wheel backwards away from the front of the swing arm.

I am going to try this change on my CB1100 ....when the time comes for a new tire.

Wolfgang

Does anyone have any experience with this company?

I need a new leather jacket as my old one is a bit too big since I dropped a few lbs. if you apply the discount these jackets get pretty cheap!

  Frankfurt to Budapest
Posted by: EarsOnWheels_imp - 05-23-2017, 05:59 AM - Forum: Seat Time - Replies (19)

I had to miss out on the great Australia trip with InHouseBob, but I managed to find some solo adventure time to get away from work. I flew to Frankfurt and then rented from All Around Vermeitung. Lots of bike to chose from. After hitting the highway for five minutes, I actually had to turn around. The windscreen caused so much turbulence, I'm sure I would have a permanent hearing damage after the trip if I'd left it in place. They removed it no problem.

First day, rode south, passed through Balingen, hopped on 440 and headed to the Bodensee. Road was awesome and led to more awesome roads. AirBnB hosts had a beer waiting when I served.

I'll post a few choice photos in the thread as I go through things.

  300 mile break in?
Posted by: cb4me?_imp - 05-23-2017, 04:23 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Seems kind of short to me but that's what the manual says.
It will be nice to just cruise and not have to vary throttle or gears although it's supposed to rain until Friday!
That 600 mile oil change/check up will be sooner than later I hope.

  CB 1100 at the Track?
Posted by: morewood_imp - 05-23-2017, 03:31 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (13)

Has anyone done a track day with their CB1100? I've been to many (20+) CLASS schools, but usually on my VFR. I'm considering bringing the CB this year instead. Thoughts???

  RS or EX
Posted by: vtwindr_imp - 05-23-2017, 02:35 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (10)

Hi, I'm new here. Thinking about making the jump to a CB1100 (from a VFR 800f)
Took an EX for a testride on Monday and it was lovely but am also going to try the RS later (different dealer). The new EX handled surprisingly well and sounded lovely but they're not cheap at nearly £11k
Have also seen some 2016 models going for £9.5k and wondering if there is much between then . Also the service schedule seems a bit offputting given what I'm used to . Can't seem to find any major issues though (unless I'm missing something) unlike the BMW R9T which is also on my list. Anyone have experience of 2017 vs 2016 models?

front wheel axle spacer collars switched
Posted by: Searcher_imp - 05-22-2017, 01:15 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (6)

I just picked up my front wheel from the dealer after having a new tire mounted and balanced. I noticed the last brake caliper went on tight but was able to loosen up the axle nut and install it, leaving the caliper bolts loose. Then I tightened the axle nut and then the caliper bolts and the brakes were rubbing. That's when I noticed the dealer had put the axle spacer collars on backwards. I have since loosened everything up but I stopped there.

What damage have I done? Bent brake disk? Bent forks?

Oh, and I mistakenly squeezed the brake lever with one caliper off and now the lever goes down to the handlebars. Do I need to bleed the brakes now? The manual says I need bleeder apparatus to do that. Can I just use a piece of rubber tubing over the bleeder fitting running into a little container of brake fluid like on car brakes?
