Leaving 6-28-18 on a 5 day ride through 4 states on my 2017 CB 1100 EX. In terms of long riding, it will be nothing impressive- 1200 miles in a whopping 5 days LOL. That is by design. I have a cross country ride coming up in mid august on the RT, that tour is a entirely different animal than this ride.

Last year I did a retro ride on the CB, and thoroughly enjoyed that layed back tour. On my return I decided to make the retro ride an annual event.

I don't ride the CB 1100 in the manner of my sleek, ultra fast sport touring bikes. I have no desire to ride it on a 700 mile day. The retro ride is about the experience, about taking a step back, and just taking a road trip.

No camping. The CB does not have the space to pack the needed equipment. Yes, I could add aftermarket or racks, but I'm loathe to do that. To me the CB MUST remain true to his heritage.

Itinerary-

Day 1- a 250 mile ride to Jackson Ms, to position myself for the Natchez Trace. I'll be riding Alabama and Mississippi country roads exclusively. I'll get there when I get there is my mindset. On a full on cross country ride that is a luxury.

Day 2- The Natchez Trace north to Nashville, about 350 miles. The Trace is the same era as the Blue Ridge Parkway. No commercial vehicles, well kept tarmac, no traffic lights or stop signs, just a nice ride through the country. Not been on the Trace in 10 years or so. That night in Nashville supper will be fried chicken and biscuits at the Loveless Cafe. I'll take a quick night jaunt into downtown to see the sights on Music Row then back to the motel.

Day 3- Ride east to the Smoky Mtns 325 miles. Uncle Phil has set me up with a route that winds me through rural Tennessee. I know the CB is a little out of his element on twisty roads, but that's ok, leaning any bike is fun. Plan to over night in the Pigeon Forge area.

Day 4- Back into Alabama via North Georgia 300 miles. Lots of good roads to choose from. I'll spend the night in Guntersville, Ala. The lake there is really nice, and the town is located almost on the shoreline. Very scenic area, not been to Guntersville in many, many years. On the sport touring bikes I make the ride 425 mile ride home from the Blue Ridge in half a day, but not this time, will split it in 2.

Day 5- Easy 150 miles home on roads I need no map for.

I hope to be off the road each day by 4 pm lol. Showered and shaved and eating steak 2 hours later, and then Netflix on my Ipad back at the room. It will be that kind of road trip. Ride, see stuff, meet people, relax. With only 300 miles to do each day, crack of dawn starts are not necessary, so I might even sleep in a little late each day.

Realise I am preaching to the converted with this but nevertheless I thought i would like to share my first impressions of my new bike with you. Just done 50 miles or so, lovely cool sunny day here, to get the mirrors/ levers/ foot pedals adjusted to where i like them. Just to add reference i traded my Hayabusa in for this. Here goes.....extremely easy to ride, feels very nimble and nothing like the 250kg we know it weighs! Lovely snicky gearbox, Light controls, i personally love the high gearing. Very strong brakes, very plush suspension. I took it along very familiar roads and it was probably the most comfortable of anything i have ridden before. Engine a bit more buzzy than i expected actually BUT if I short shift and click between 5th and 6th on back roads its sublime. I know i am getting old because i like the fact its not noisy, its just a much more pleasant experience to waft along country lanes. Believe it or not a white lamborghini came screaming up behind me and then flew past at warp factor 9, clearly driven by a knob-head. on the busa that might have bugged me but not on my gentlemans express, nothing to prove to anyone. I pulled up behind him a couple of miles later at traffic lights by the way So, to summarise, as long as nothing goes wrong to sour the experience I think i could really get to like this bike and it could finally be a keeper. A shout out to Mr Kiddo here, as he said on his youtube video don't rely on the fact sheet because numbers do not mean a thing. They dont. This is a LOVELY bike.

can anyone tell me if it is possible to fit the chrome passenger handle of the 2018 model on the EX first series?
honda assistance can not give me precise information, and not having the spare available in stock, you can not do the test, I should order and pay for it.

I very curious what others may know or have experience with riding a bike with a known rear wheel mis-alignment. It seems to me if the rear wheel is pointing to the right or left then something has to compensate for this. Either the front wheel has to be pointed one way or the other or the rider has to lean to one side or the other? So what does our CB forum knowledge base have to say.

I've been tinkering and refitted the OEM Muffler to my bike.

I've been running with my lovely Over end can but but as I'm planning a trip or two soon, with a pillion, decided that a bit of peace and quiet might be nice ;-)

I'm actually loving the original can again! It's so smooth and it just purrs along. I'm running it on the end of my Arrow Cat Free 4-1, which was already fitted to the bike.

I've got a PCv and Auto Tune fitted, so I'm not too concerned about the fuelling, but wondered which way, if any, I should expect to see the fuelling go?

The flow of exhaust gas, I'm assuming, must be restricted with the Stock Muffler. Should this make the bike run lean or rich?

I ask as last time I went to the Dyno, after fitting air box mods and a cat free header with the Over muffler, I expected to see the bike running lean and was told that it was the opposite. The person at the tuners said that opening up the air box and exhaust would make the bike run rich and they'd had to lean it off. Not what I expected to hear.

So, that said, should I be expecting to richen it up after fitting the restricted, stock muffler?

What do you reckon?

Has anyone seen any deals on one of these? With in a 200-300 mi radius of Indiana.

They evidently made two models, this one has the big front wheel.

Dealers seem to want $3200-$3400.

Hard to trust buying a used one of these, no history, no warranty, etc, but would consider it.

Between the tinnitus from not protecting my ears younger in life and just normal age related hearing loss, I'm thinking about getting hearing aids. I no longer hear a lot of what is said in a TV show, or movie, always asking my wife 'What did they say?" and asking my wife and grand kids to look me in the face when they talk, and noisy restaurants are nearly impossible for me to hear in. It's beginning to detract from my joy of life.

the sad realization of life is, one of these days I'm going to have to get some.

Couple of questions:

Can you ride with them in?
Do they make putting on a helmet an issue?
Do they work as ear protection while riding?
If not, I guess you need to remove them to put in ear plugs?
Would they amplify wind and road noise as well as voices and other necessary to hear sounds.
Are they comfortable to wear?

I'm 5'6 170 pounds, wear a size large jacket, large helmet, and this is the view I have out of my stock mirrors. Looked in the mirror and just brought the camera up to my eye to capture these views. Just a sliver of each arm in the mirrors and a pretty good field of view behind me.

CB1100 DX is using excessive oil I think. At OD reading 22.5K miles (last week), had dealer change oil and filter before I started touring. Toured for 6 days and 2500 miles (OD reading 25k) and check oil. Nothing registered in the oil window. Totally surprised me. Added quart and registered between low/high lines in window. On day 7 dropped in at Honda dealer and had them change oil and filter again; they filled to above high line in window. I road another 200 miles today and level registers half way between low/high lines in window. I think I have a problem but want to continue my tour (in Michigan now .. home is San Diego). FYI, first 1200 miles of tour my MPH was 85-95, 100 sometimes. Next 1200 miles was 80-90 MPH. Last few hundred miles at 75-80 MPH (since getting last oil change). First thought is just to keep adding oil and keep touring. ANY THOUGHTS?

I finally received my 2014 CB1100!!!!! It took a month but I picked up my bike 2 days ago an I Love it!!!!! Love the looks and the bike is as smooth as butter. People at stop lights and when I'm getting gas just want to stop and talk about the CB.. If any one could suggest a windshield and a rear rack for the Cb I would appreciate it.. The only thing I noticed about the CB thats slightly negative is a faint ticking noise on the left hand side while driving.. not the ticking we hear when we stop riding and park the bike.. The bike in my opinion is superior than the Honda nc700x that I traded in for the CB And its superior than my HD xl 883.
