Black 2014 on POW Ak this summer
Posted by: Labrador12_imp - 05-11-2019, 05:09 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

A buddy and I just bought a property on Prince of Wales Island in Ak. I will be taking my CB up and we'll be putting some miles on up there. Several roads have been black toped and I am looking forward to some classic riding amongst the mountains, the blacktailed deer and the bears. I've been fishing up there for salmon for almost 20 years, but this will be the first time that I've taken a bike up. We will be up there for most of July, Aug, and Sept. Another bucket list item that I never really expected to scratch off. If you see a big Honda while you're visiting POW this summer its probubly me or my bud.

  Distracted wrenching...
Posted by: Bheezy27403_imp - 05-10-2019, 11:18 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (10)

So with a 1 yr old at the house and working as a restaurant manager my time is very limited to do anything. I always change my oil in the spring on my bikes regardless of mileage put on in the previous season (this year not much at all) so I picked up oil and filters for the Honda and Triumph in hopes that I would get a little window to get the job done. The Honda, being such an easy change, I figured I could do while watching the boy last Thursday. I pack my son up in his playpen and take him outside to my front porch to enjoy some sunshine and spring breezes and pull the Honda out of the garage up the driveway where I'm just a few feet away from him. I begin the procedure and the boy is happy in his spot. I'm thinking to myself what an incredibly easy bike to change the oil on praising the Honda engineers. Oil drained, easy, filter off, easier, new filter on...you get the point. All this in a matter of minutes. As I watch my boy fiddle around with his shoehorn (it's his favorite, who knows why) I pop open the gallon of GN 4 and start adding it in through my funnel. Man what an easy job, I'm almost done and the boy is still happy as a lark. Then I notice some oil running out from under the bike. D'oh! Look right at the drain plug resting on my seat.

At least I feel like I flushed out my old oil with a nice new batch of GN. Idiot. Confused

check engine light stays on, on my 2017
Posted by: Houtman_imp - 05-10-2019, 10:36 AM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (51)

A few days ago I did put the O2 sensor eliminators on my 2017 with less than good results , check engine light came on after about 50 miles.
yesterday I removed the eliminators (also from my 2014 ) and disconnected the batterie for 24 hours. Connected batterie but check engine light is still on , can I somehow get this light NOT to come on or is it a dealer solution with a special tester.
I am wondering if the 2017 (and perhaps also the 2014 ) are more sensitive to messing with the O2 sensor. I know many 2013 owners have one installed but are there any 2017 owners with O2 eliminators ? (or 2014 owners ) 2017 starts ok but did not have a change to ride it today.

  Whitehouse K17 mods...
Posted by: Bazbro_imp - 05-09-2019, 05:12 PM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (390)

I'll make this the first of a series of occasional postings as to how my "crashed CB1100" rebuild is progressing. It's gonna take me until August, I reckon, not because it's that badly damaged but because I've had an unexpected financial hit that will take me until then to get over!!

The story so far... I owned my CB750 new in 1972 (now long gone) and then fell in love with a Whitehouse complete conversion of a CB1100 that I saw for sale in France.

I set about looking for a CB1100 that I could convert and found a crashed one for a remarkably low price. The damage is slight and superficial - tank, seat, exhaust pipe (one), engine left side cover, levers and rear mudguard, plus cracked engine mount.

Yesterday, I had a great meeting with my local Honda dealer (Torbay Motorcycles), Mike the manager is 'on board' with what I'm trying to achieve and is very enthusiastic! All parts ordered!

I then made contact with my welder who sees no problem repairing the engine mount. In situ as well! Phew!

I now have to go up North to a mate's garage to collect the 'bike as he's kindly stored it for me. It'll be my first sight of it...

As I've only just returned to the UK from France, I'm having to register ownership of the 'bike and declare to the authorities that is not on the road yet (otherwise I pay tax).

I already have the workshop manual, thanks to a VERY kind member on here. So that's where I am now.

Today's task is to clear space in the garage, shove the Beemer out of the way (the BSA is away being restored at the mo) and to make a workbench. Just those two jobs will probably take me to August!! Oh, and I have to put better lighting in the garage to make it a "workshop".

Adiós, amigos! Smile

  LED headlight bulb fitment
Posted by: Gone in 60 - 05-09-2019, 04:39 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (13)

I did some searching on upgrading to an LED headlight bulb, but didn't see anything jump out except for a full Motodemic upgrade which is very pricey.

I'm looking to see if anyone has upgraded their H4 headlight bulb to an LED bulb. Since those require a bit more room behind the bulb in the headlight bucket, not sure if there's enough clearance.

If anyone knows if it would fit or not, I'm all ears. Thanks!

Like New 2014s for Half the Price of a New 2017 EX
Posted by: Dave Swanson - 05-09-2019, 04:00 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (85)

I am casting around for another CB1100. I do appreciate what the 2017 EX has to offer over the standard 2014, but at double the price ~$5000 for the minty 2014 with less than 1000 miles vs ~$10,000 for the new 2017EX I am having a hard time justifying the new one. I just thought this is the best place to commiserate! Your opinions would be welcome.

  Greetings and a question
Posted by: Snowwolfe_imp - 05-09-2019, 01:55 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (11)

New member, great bikes. Been thinking of buying one used. Top of my radar is a 2013 with a Yoshimura race exhaust. Owner states bike runs great and he is the second owner, 11k miles.

Would adding this type of exhaust affect how the bike runs? Would it lean it out any making it sputter or ride rough?

Thanks! Hope to be a member of this club someday.

Engine guards and Givi top box
Posted by: LuckyNLife_imp - 05-09-2019, 12:17 AM - Forum: Accessories/Modifications - Replies (18)

I just purchased my CB1100EX last Tuesday and the mods have begun. I have installed a Ram mount, rear carrier, Givi e450 top box and engine guards. I received my Honda heated grips that will go on this weekend with a USB port and heated gear outlet. Which will hold me till my Road Comet fairing arrives in 2-3 months. Big Grin
