In the end I opted to reform my seat just like I did in my Honda Africa Twin 2018 adventure sports. I am a large man but I need comfort for my wife. The cost was € 450 in total and http://www.lolopamanes.es did it. I measure 1.87 cm and 125 kg and the change of making it + 3cm taller is the best idea. Besides, it does not destroy aesthetics and comfort; triple gel and viscolastic plus anti-slip fabric added to suspension OHLINS is another category of motorcycle ... I also asked the beginning of the seat to "lean" almost on the tank to cover that gap.

My new-to-me 2014 started flashing the gas gauge to indicate reserve.

I had 110 miles on the odometer since the last fill up. When I filled it again, it only took 2.7 gallons.

With a 3.9 gallon tank, 1.2 gallons is nearly a third of a tank!

I've also noticed that the gauge reads full after a fill-up, but after only 30 miles or so, it will read half a tank.

Apparently this is a common issue for this bike.

My 2014 has been getting 40 mpg, which is worse than I expected, but she seems to be running well, and at least it's consistent.

I will address the mpg issue separately, but I wanted to see how many others have this extremely "generous" reserve tank!

Sun is shining, temperatures are going up, it's K10 time again!

Pulled off the dust cover, hit the key, fired up first pop after a winter lay-up. Had a couple of trips to work this week to feel my way back into the saddle, was good to look out on from my office window in the late afternoon sunlight today.

Planning a short trip with the boys for a coffee tomorrow, so will add more photos whilst out and about in Cheshire.

2015 sae model. I thought the spokes were stainless steel ?

Noticed black marks on the spokes and assumed it was brake dust and grime but found out today it will not clean off and appears to be like the spokes are stained black just under the surface.

Anyone else had this and and any solutions to get the spokes shiny again.

I consider myself an amateur historian on motorcycles. I have loved motorcycles since I was a kid, and have quite a collection of historical reference books on them (20 books at last count..4 of them dedicated to Hondas alone.)

This month's Road Runner magazine came in the other day, and much to my amazement in the back they featured a Honda I had never seen or heard of before.
Made domestically for a few months in 1956 and 1957, there are only 5 known to exist IN THE WORLD today. One in India, one in Myanmar, 2 in Japan and one in England.

In 1957 it commanded a price of 187,000 Japanese yen (almost $11,000 in today's dollars adjusted for inflation). A ton of money in post WW2 Japan.

Called the Dream MF 350 is was a 344cc single that boasted 20 hp. It had a host of features that were technically years ahead of it's time. An overhead camshaft, a 7.5:1 compression ratio, (much higher than other bikes of it's era). Ram air style air intake around the steering head. A gear indicator, electric turn signals, rubber dampers in the rear wheel, and the rider could go from top gear directly to first. It's acceleration and top speed of 75 mph were impossible to beat in Japan, even faster than the 22 hp Harley-Davidson based Rikuo 750 V twin and the 19 hp Cabton Indian based 600 parallel twin. With a light tune up the MF could hit nearly 95 mph.

How impressive was the mind of Soichiro Honda?

I mentioned this subject in another thread, but I thought I would start its own thread with what I found out since then. Our CBs originally came with a 15410-MFJ-D01 oil filter made by Riko. The new one I still have was assembled in the U.S.A., but I do not know if that was true for all D01 filters. Recently the D01 filter was replaced by 15410-MFJ-D02, made by Wako. As far as I can tell at this point, the only difference between D01 and D02 is the manufacturer, not the design or materials used.

Unfortunately, like so many other things these days I found that there are Chinese counterfeits of both the D01 and D02 filters. Here is how to spot the fakes:

Included in the link are pictures, comments, and a YouTube video showing all the things to look for. There is also an interesting video showing the difference in filtering quality between genuine and fake Toyota filters. Apparently the fakes typically use less dense filter material than the genuine article. These fakes can be found on eBay, Amazon, and numerous other listings on the internet.

After studying all the info on fakes, I ordered a two pack of the original D01 filters from an eBay seller that was supposed to be a Honda dealer ( found the corresponding dealer web site outside of eBay ). The pictures of the filter in the eBay ad were the genuine article. When the filters arrived, guess what..two fake D02 filters had been substituted, and had all the tell tale signs shown in the above link, including Made In China. Because I knew the D02 is made by Wako, and all the other signs, when I confronted the seller, I got an immediate refund, and a prepaid return label.

This morning I called my local dealer to see if he had D01 filters in stock. Nope, he has the D02 which as we now know, replaced the D01. The last time I bought a D01 at the dealer it was $19.95 for one, which is a little on the steep side, and has been mentioned in other threads. I asked how much for one D02, and was quoted $13.95, which I think is more reasonable. I did mention my eBay issue, and the parts guy told me that they only get their parts direct from Honda. I will update if necessary if I see any difference between the D01 and D02 once I have both to compare side by side.
