I set my iPhone Maps to no highways and no tolls and set off for Cabela’s in Hamburg, Pennsylvania. The CB performed flawlessly on those curvy backroads which had a fair bit of gravel from recent rain. I had to hit the highway on the way back and again the CB handled it with ease. What a fantastic yet simple motorcycle.

I do NOT want to start a oil war post, just curious what most folks use, conventional or synthetic?

After a few years with a Honda 599 the new bike fever got a hold of me and I started looking around at a possible next bike. I wanted something with more torque, neutral seating stance, and possibly some classic good looks. I almost went with a Bonneville but the quality of the 599 got me thinking Honda. After some searching I came across the CB1100 and started to keep an eye out for one locally. Sure enough a 2013 popped up near me for $4800 with only $2700 miles!.

But there was a catch...



Who could put these horrible ape hangers on such a classic bike? I traded in my 599 for the bike and told the dealer to set her back to stock. Three weeks and lots of money later she was back to her old self.



I've only gotten to ride her a few times in the last few days thanks to all the rain in PA but I"m very impressed. I've own four different bikes and none had an engine this smooth nor a gearbox this silky. Theres some real craftsmanship at play in this bike. I can't get over how good the tank looks either.

I dropped the bike a few weeks ago, a slow and undramatic defeat to gravity as I was searching for the side stand after a long day’s ride.

Thanks to the panniers, the left engine cover was the only point of contact, and there’s a scuff mark to prove it.

A new engine cover isn’t completely cheap, hence my question:
Would you recommend replacing it asap (to prevent corrosion, perhaps?) or can I just keep it as a battle scar and never think about it again?

... And I'm ready to punch someone. I've been commuting to work on a motorcycle for so long that any time I need to do it in a car, I get extremely frustrated. It's a 14 mile drive, and you'd think it would be no big deal.

My condo building is being painted this week, so all of our patio furniture, barbecue, and my wife's dozens of plants had to be stuffed into our garage, taking up the room where my CB lives. To keep debris and paint spray from entering the garage through the gap around the garage door, I pulled my CB out of the garage early Monday morning, sealed up the inside of the garage door with sheet plastic for the week, rode to the office, and have been using my beater work van to get back and forth to work all week. I don't have a way to safely secure a motorcycle outside overnight, but the van could get stolen for all I care.

It's now Friday, and my head hurts from banging my head on the steering wheel in traffic for a week, watching motorcycles sail by without a care in the carpool lane and lane splitting around me. I feel the same frustration that got me to start riding to work in the first place. I realize how liberating it is to not really care whether or not the freeway is packed with traffic.

Also, gas is now $4.20 a gallon in my area. I usually don't really pay attention, since I buy three gallons at a time which gets me to work for a week and a half. I've gone through a tankful in the van. I felt that in my wallet.

I'm anxiously awaiting a text from my wife to tell me that the painters are finished and that we can get back to normal tonight. I anxiously await the return of my sanity.

So as I finally got the last piece for Joe to pour the fuel and crank it up, the excitement lasted fir about 30 seconds when the fuel start pouring out from the bottom of the tank, i took me a while to disconnect that nasty fuel pump jack, but that time a full gallon poured out. When I finally managed to turn the tank around to have a look at what the heck was happening, I found that the paint guys overtightened the fuel pump screws and one of the bolts cracked. They just left it there still attached so as soon as I twisted it off the bolt stayed in my hand.
Now these bolts are welded to the ring that holds them, does anyone have any suggestion on how to fix this, because at this point I'm a bit clueless.
I feel like I'm gonna need a new tank, do you all have the same feeling?
