Near Salzburg in Austria, 2 or 3 days ago, and I am passed by a m/c...
on a motorway covered in snow, the tarmac underneath frozen from the night before ( down to about 1 or 2 Fahrenheit ), in blistering cold wind, trucks everywhere, and my wipers having a hard time to clear the windshield. I must have been driving at about 55 mph, the m/c crossing lanes and splitting lanes at about 75. Gee, I could trust my senses. Was I dreaming? No, this ghost rider was for real.

I am buying a CB with a rear rack and would like a nice removable trunk bag for trips. Doing a general Google search yielded this:

I'd love some suggestions from you folks. I currently have a large hardshell removable Givi on my GSX650f, but of course that requires the special Givi mount and I'd prefer to keep the existing generic chrome mount on the bike. 90% of the time I ride WITHOUT a trunk bag.

I'm sure all riders have been on the receiving end of other riders opinions. Here are a few of the ones I've received:
Out at my BIL's place in Hesperia, the high desert, we were getting ready to head out one fine autumn day when I see him looking over my bike, the FJR I had at the time. Admittedly, I'm not in the wash-and-polish every time I ride it school of thought, but it looked pretty decent, at least, but he shakes his head, snorts, and says "Don't you ever wash that thing?" Well, I look at his bike and it is spotless, no brake dust on the rims, no road grime anywhere, it looks like a garage queen, but I know it has over 75k miles on it. All I could come up with was a mumbled statement that I did wash it when I thought it necessary. He just shook his head.
Another time, me and a bud are at my house, getting ready to head out. It's a little cool, so I don a leather bike jacket that I'd had for a long time. My bud looks at the jacket and says, "That jacket needs some leather conditioner on it." I acknowledged his statement but didn't defend myself. Later that day, we're at our fave meet-up place, the famous Sancho's Tacos in Huntington Beach. It's getting late, and I say, "Well, gotta head home, see ya." He says, "Yeah, go home and put some leather treatment on your jacket." The nerve!
Another time, me and another bud are coming back from the American Legion post in Newport Beach. He is coming to my house because he is carrying a large sack of take-out grub that I'm bringing home. We get to my house and pull into the driveway. We dismount, and without a word, he comes over to my bike, leans down and gives my chain the tension test, then straightens up and says, "You oughta see to that chain, it has way too much slack in it." After he leaves, I check the chain. There is some slack, but not "way too much". The nerve of some people, but I did adjust it the next day. Has anyone else ran into this kind of thing? But, I guess it means something that our friends are looking out for us, right?

For some time i have puzzled over how the cb1100 " knows " where the stroke order is with only the crank sensor to work from.
Best guess i came up with is; "it feeds only one cylinder and when it fires it registers an even or uneven sequence".

Well i just used an electronic " spanner ", it's a 4 channel automotive oscilloscope "h-scope 402" with a 1 minute plus memory capacity of wave forms.
Connected spark plug no 1 and injectors 1 and 4 to the scope, started the bike and this happened.



The two injectors have a different voltage level selected, no4 is smaller so i can identify it reliably, i used only the two that i could get to easy so there might be another explanation how this works.

You can see exactly when the engine was started by the dip of the green line's voltage as the starter button was operated and the dips are the compression strokes of the cylinders when the starter button is operated.

Injector 1 opened to prime with some fuel, then after 3 more cycles it " guessed " the engine was firing in the right order, rev's were picking up pace and started injecting on all four cylinders.

All done in 0,7 seconds according to the time scale below the graph.
So it appears the sparkies all fire straight away but the ecu determines from the injector "success" if the injection order is the right one as far as i can work it out hence the three " misses " before it's happy and the rev's increase on successful combustion.

So, I'm pretty religious about bleeding my brakes and cleaning up and so on, but I can't help but think after 46k miles that the calipers and master cylinder might need some kind of maintenance. To be honest, they brakes do feel kind of "old" these days. The smoothness that they once exhibited in the front just isn't there anymore. My EBC HH sintered pads have a long way to go, so they're fine.

So what should I do to refresh my calipers and master cylinder? should i do anything at all? is any maintenance needed to keep those parts running in top form?

Okay so the [url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=17547]bent wheels on my 2013 are finally about to hit the road to get bent back into shape. I've been waiting for a headlift stand to arrive and I'm looking at the manual ahead of time to check install/uninstall instructions.

Am I losing my mind? Honda asks for an insane amount of parts to be "new" on re-installation. The info for the front wheel on page 12-18 appears to be appears to be:

This seems wildly overzealous to me on Honda's part but I don't claim to be a mechanic. I know some parts undergo deformation as a part of proper seating but the torque values on this are rather low (the driven flange bolts, which I'm not uninstalling, being the highest in the 108 N.m/80lb range). I've mostly owned older bikes with manuals that don't call for much part replacement outside of gaskets - so I don't know what to think.

I want to remain safe but I need a realistic assessment on what I actually need to replace. I don't have the money for all of this right now and I'm going to need the bike to get to work soon. Can anyone with experience in this give me some guidance?

Is the pcv and or auto tune needed with a full open exhaust with no cat ??? All Stock on the intake side. 2014 standard. What would you guys recommend i do?? Is just running the pcv with the supplied map?? or the one for yoshi slip on going to be ok??

Last days of September, I took plenty of pictures, during a very nice voyage in “Massif Central”, medium height mountains in center of France. It is two months old, but… It’s sometimes difficult to find the time to review all this material and pick just a few nice ones! Eventually I made this selection:

First day, approach trip: the CB1100 was on a trailer, as both riders are getting old… 6 hours journey from Grenoble to Aubrac high flats, where we rent a small stone house, in the middle of nowhere, on the Aubrac plateau:


Here is a typical view of Aubrac plateau landscape: mainly, meadows with cows, for miles and miles, and a barn every now and then. Strange light on this picture, it was sunset, just a few minutes before night.


Small winding roads, perfect area for motorcycling.


Second day, poor weather on Aubrac heights, with fog and drizzle, but we stick to our schedule and went to the south with the CB1100, and found some rather favorable riding conditions in the Lot valley. First stop at Saint-Côme d’Olt:


The goal of the day was to see “Bozouls hole”, a strange canyon in Aveyron district.

Two main goals this day: first, we wanted to climb the old volcano “Puy Mary”, 1787 m height (5863 feet):

Leaving the bike at Peyrols pass, it takes about one hour walk on a large, cemented trail with many steps. In summer this place is full of tourists… End of September, it was beginning to be a nice place!

Second goal was to have a look at a small village where a part of my ancestries have been living (at 19th century)… Up to last year, I didn’t know anything about this place, none of my parents or grand-parents ever told me anything about it. But as I began build-up of my genealogic tree, I found a branch of the tree, coming from this village. I had to go and have a look! Several of my ancestries were baptized and/or married in this church, in Saint-Projet-de-Salers…


Fourth day was for the return back home, but again we had a nice ride across medium height mountains, south of Massif Central, and met these strange rounded rocks, at “Le Truc de Fortunio”, 1552 m height (5092 feet):
