This bike is owned by a friend of mine. He's the original owner and bought it in 1976 when he was a mechanic at a local Honda dealer. He used to ride it all over the country, but he has newer bikes he rides the longer distances these days.

This past sunday we went for a short ride and did a little bike swap for a while. He was very impressed with the CB1100. "G*ddam is that nice," I believe is what he said when he got off my bike.

His old 750 is still an impressive bike with a surprisingly sporty chassis -- I have no doubt it has a firmer ride than the 1100, yet it's still supple and doesn't beat you up. The motor was also impressively smooth. You can see why these things took over the entire planet in the early 70s.

A couple of big differences is in the ease of use of the controls and the better brakes of the 1100. The 750 doesn't have near the power of the newer CB either, but it can still more than get out of it's own way. Oh, and the reupholstered seat on the old 750 was way more comfortable to me than the 1100's seat. I have a Corbin on the way, 'nuff said about that.

Anyways, thought I'd share a few pics I took after our ride.

Grip Buddies have solved my hand numbing/tingling issues. The bigger grip and vibration/buzz damping are great! I don't particularly like the look of the seam but other than that they look good and do the job well. My two cents.

Owners manual says 10-30. Dealer says Honda doesn't even make 10-30 and it should say 10-40. Hmmmm..... makes you wonder........are there more errors in our little book?

Well I took a ride on my CB250 up to Mountain Motorsports in Marietta to check out the CB1100 they have in stock! Out of curiosity I checked the VIN... I was surprised that Honda is already on unit number 1632! The salesman speculated that this tally includes those sold in Canada. They said its their 3rd one and they weren't expecting it... The first 2 sold in matter of days but this one has been on the lot for 2.5 wks (as of last week)



The OTD price was quoted in the $11.4k range with tax and assembly fees and all that. A little high I'm sure but I didn't negotiate.

Anyway I had a good look around it and took plenty of pictures. I sat on it and discovered it was a little higher than my CB250 (I guess the US model is 1" higher than non-US?). Other impressions: classic, comfortable, shiny metallic bits.

One last interesting comment by the salesman was that 2 older gentlemen in their 60's had come to look at it THAT SAME DAY and BOTH of them ended up buying the CTX700 instead! Wow! The CTX is way more cruiser, and more plastic, so I was surprised that buyers moved over so far. That to me does not bode well for CB1100 sales.

Anybody found any other than fugly MFW's to fit Motech?

I remember seeing one of the picture in the forum that has a bigger tank on the CB1100. It was red and the sides were not carved in like the original tank. Is there an alternative tank we can buy? Thanks

On Saturday the chrome meter covers and head light shell finally arrived.It took 5 minutes the put the meter covers on but I have a heck of a job removing the plug attached to the light bulb.I have an service manual and push in the 2 little tabs but pulling it back with quite a force still does not make it come off.I do not want to break anything by using even more force,are they all that difficult to take off ?Putting the chrome shell on is very easy but I have to take the bulb connector of first! I do not think that I am that bad of a mechanic,I check valve clearings on my 1979 CBX but this baffles me.Thanks for help.John.

I've been intouch with Pitbull about a front stand. The pin size is unknown to them so George is sending a few for me to size up. I'd like to get one before my big spring install, stands make everything easier.
The standard one I ordered for the rear works great, I wish our swingarm would take spools though. I'm planning to remove my centerstand so the rear was a must.
