I just got a new BMW S1000R and I was asked to do a review of the bike:

I currently own what I believe to be the ultimate Naked sportbike; a Ducati 1098S Streetfighter. I love it and will probably keep it for many years to come but lately I've been craving a naked of a different character and I love 4 cylinder bikes because thats what I grew up riding.

I've owned a couple of MV Agustas and my last one was a 1078RR Brutale and while the bike is visually stunning and the engine character is sublime I just didn't gel with the seating position so after 4 different seat configurations I let it go.

I don't want a another vtwin like my SF so the KTM 1290R was out for me. The only other choices were the Aprilia tuono and the BMW S1000R. The tuono has a V4 and the sound that engine makes is nothing short of magical. The bike handles beautifully and it's very comfortable fitting me perfectly.

But I hate the flat colors that the Ape is only offered in and the engine makes no power below 5000 RPM. To me a super naked has to have torque from the bottom to the redline and top speed is not the objective, so the Ape was out.

The BMW does everything well, it fits me well and its very comfortable with a great seat. The engine sound is fantastic - so much that I wouldn't even put an aftermarket exhaust system on it. The bike is so fast it will blur you vision with a twist of the throttle. And, its quick and nimble while being stable in the corners. I would call this bike confidence inspiring making the rider feel immediately at home.

It does have a few quirks that I don't like; The engine is buzzy with a noticeable high frequency vibration sent through the entire bike. And while all of the technology is great, (it has stability control, traction control, ABS with 3 settings, auto adjusting suspension with user definable settings, throttle modes, and suspension modes, cruise control, heated grips, slipper clutch, auto quick shift, and I'm sure a whole lot more that I haven't discovered yet), I'm not a fan of the nanny cuss. If I want to do a burn-out or a wheelie I don't need no stinkin German engineer shutting the bike down to save me from myself. I've turned off the traction control but so far I've not been able to defeat the wheelie control, and that pisses me off.

Over-all I love the bike and the few little niggles aren't going to dampen my enjoyment. It'll take me a while to get to know and understand all of the electronics but I'm sure I'll find a way to get around the nanny controls.

Below is a link to an album with a picture of each bike. If you look at the way the light hits the curve of the tank, you'll see where I think the tank got bigger to hold the extra 1/2 gallon of gas. In case anyone wanted to upgrade tanks, but wanted to know what their bike would look like afterward!

I LOVE the Deluxe, especially the four into two exhausts, but my hatred for red trumped all else. So I got the 2014 standard, and although there are days I wish I had gotten the deluxe and just gotten a paint job on the tank and other red parts, I figured I could at least upgrade the seat. So here's the results. It's also got a windshield on it, but you can't see how nice it actually looks in these pics.

Anybody know who makes a set of slip-ons mufflers for the 2014 Deluxe?

I've decided to give up on the 4 into 4 dream.... After searching with no luck for a set of 4 into 4's that do not requiere the removal of the center stand (my first choice), I am now trying to find a pair of slip-on canisters that sound a little more dramatic than the original Deluxe mufflers.

Since a few weeks I'm a happy owner of a black CB 1100 EX
and rode till now the 1500 km.

The CB runs absolutely great and makes a hell of fun. But I noticed that up to about 140km / h, the bike is great on the road, while above 160 km / h I got the impression that the CB becomes a bit unstable. I drive solo and bring with me 185m about 90 kg on the scales. Reasons could be of course the fork & shock absorber settings. But I also suspect the Dunlop D205 as a source of the problem.

How is it with you? Do you have the fork & shock absorbers adjusted differently? And maybe someone has a direct comparison of other tires with regard stability?

I did a search hear and only found 4 threads that even mention "warranty", so I take that as a very good sign that I know the answer to the next question already, but here it goes.

Is the extended Honda warranty worth it? The dealership is offering the 5 year transferable at about 10% of purchase price. And since it's from Honda it's good at any dealership. From reading up hear there doesn't seem to be any real big or consistent part failures around here. And it is a Honda after all . I usually buy used vehicles and so don't have to think about this. I did turn it down on my Subaru, and have not regretted it yet.

I will probably do most of the regular maintenance myself, but if it was something more major, I would tend to take it to a shop.

Anybody have much experience with Honda warranty service in general, good or bad?

This is the 1st time I bought items from Samurider.com I placed the order on Friday they shipped Monday and at my door in NY on Wednesday. I usually don't get excited about packaging but this was first class. The side cover are OEM in black matte. They really go well with my exhaust. We'll i think I'm done with mods

Lost my main key along with the H&B luggage key for my bike. I've searched for nearly a week, called everywhere I may have left it... no luck. When I bought my bike a little over a year ago, I gave my wife the spare key and said, "Put this somewhere so you'll know where it is when I call and tell you that I lost my bike key." She forgot where she put the spare key (and she's currently out of the country, so she can't help me look for it).

Out of desperation, I called dealer and asked them to make me two keys. I picked them up on the way home from work. Put the key in the ignition and it refuses to turn either direction (I had left the forks unlocked the last time I had the key). The new key works in the helmet lock and the gas tank without sticking. Please tell me I didn't waste $20 on keys that won't work in my ignition. I didn't think Honda sold bikes in the US with H.I.S.S.

Tried graphite lube in the lock with no luck.

Any suggestions?
