| Bucket List ride |

About a year ago when I retired, a riding buddy of mine Jim who had also just retired, asked me if I was interested on joining him on a "bucket list" ride down Rt 66. I said I had no real desire to ride 66 but did have a dream about riding the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) in California and dipping a toe in the Pacific Ocean. I proposed joining him on his dream ride down 66 if he continued on and rode with me on my dream ride to the PCH. Plans were made. We would take off June 1 this year and return whenever...... I would be riding my Honda ST 1300 and Jim a Suzuki Vstrom 1000.
Well, we made it home safe and sound. It was a great trip. I accomplished my goal of dipping a toe in the Pacific Ocean. The trip ended up taking 11 days. We went through 14 different states (5 states twice). Total ride distance was 5,424 miles for me, a few more for Jim who lives in Columbus, Ohio. This is a huge country! Highlights? …. Rt 66 from St Louis, Mo to Barstow Ca, Pacific Coast Highway, elephant seals, Big Sur, giant red woods, Monterey Beach, Pikes Peak, snow, Bonneville Salt Flats, Donner Pass, hardwoods, prairies, deserts and mountains and missing a slew of Tornados. Took over 1300 pictures (mostly on the fly with one hand..."ferret style") Except for a two afternoons of rain, the weather was great. Lowest temp was 30 degrees at mile 13 on Pikes Peak, highest temp was 100 in between San Jose and Sacramento, California. Both bikes ran perfectly. Jim lubed the chain on his Suzuki 1000 V strom everyday, but it never even needed adjusting. We both averaged 50 mpg. Lots of saddle time. We averaged 493 miles per day. Shortest day was 336 miles on day 9. Longest was 569 on day 3. Hard to say best part, it was all pretty cool.. either PCH from San Luis Obispo to Santa Cruz or Pike’s Peak. Worst part is easy … traffic jams in California (in excruciating heat) and near Denver (in a thunderstorm).
I picked out 40 pics that may show some of the flavor of the trip. Will post up a few at a time, so if interested please keep checking back. Here we go

Hello everyone,
I have a few questions regarding the Road Comet Windshield.
Does anyone have photos showing the difference between the Road Comet 1 and 2?
Does anyone have photos showing how the fairing is secured to the bike?
Has anyone tried the 40mm higher screen?
Thanks, Mike

I have Over st. steel engine guards on my 2013 and ordered a set for my 2014 DLX.
Mr. T. just send me a email to say that they will not fit the 2014 DLX because the 6 speed transmission.
Not enough clearance, I will put the Honda OEM guards on instead and wait to see if Over will make a set for the DLX.

| Break-in is over |

Yesterday I completed the break-in period and changed the oil and filter.
I had loosened the oil drain plug a few weeks ago to drain off a little oil since the level was above the upper mark in the sight glass. It was extremely tight and seemed to me it was well above the recommended torque level. No problem this time.
The oil filter was on so tight I didn't think I was going to get it off. I use a strap wrench on oil filters, but I couldn't get it to budge. Then I remembered I had an oil filter wrench that fits on the flutes of the filter and was able to break it loose, but man oh man, I thought I was going to crush the filter first!! Way, way too tight!!
Now that the break-in is over I can ride the bike like it was intended to be ridden.
BTW, FYI, I Used 10W-30 from a 4 litre jug and filled the crankcase to the upper level mark. The jug is marked in litres and US pints. The oil left in the jug is half one US pint.

I bought my 2014 in TN and this morning I went to the NC DMV to get tags and title.
They said that I needed a MCO, this is Manufacture Certificate of
Manufacture. (never heard of that )
When I called Southern Honda Powersport in Chattanooga they said that they will send it to me 10 after the check cleared.
I had paid with a bankers check, no financing by anyone.
They said that it is still the 10 days waiting.
It is no big deal except that I stood for 45 minutes in line.
If you buy out of state you might want to check this, the DMV said that it was federal.

OK, here is a trip around my "Short Block". It took about 11 minutes real time since I was taking it easy, but this is sped up 8X. I wanted to try the new handlebar mount I had gotten for my Gopro.
This is also my first time embedding a video here, so I wanted to see how that went.
Just after I pull out of the driveway there is a deer about 200 yards down the road just standing there, but I don't think you can see it in the video. It moved after I honked and got about 50 yards away. As much as I love the scenery and riding up here, the bad side is I have yet to be out on this bike at any time of the day and not see a deer on or near the road.
I like the Idea of having the camera mounted to the bike, but now I also get why people mount them to there chest to get them up higher.
Enjoy.
