Hi, really like the CB1100 but I'm having a difficult time finding one for a test ride. Because of this I've been looking at a couple other bikes and the one that's caught my eye is the 2014 Ninja 1000 ABS. In spite of the sporty appearance they look to be very comfortable and have great reviews.

I should be able to get a test ride on the Ninja over the weekend, and I was wondering if anyone has already ridden one and could compare it to the CB1100.

I think I need some more help here. My Hepco Becker Alurack arrived today and I attempted to mount it on the bike. The instructions are pretty simple so I don't see what I could have done wrong but it doesn't appear to fit right. The package did include the correct part number so that's not the problem. When I put the brackets on the bike the front end of left side bracket sits about 3/4 inch away from the grab rail that it mounts to. On the right side, the bracket not only touches but is actually pushed up against the grab rail. I'm hesitant to tighten the screw on the right side for fear of damaging something. Anybody else run into this problem? Thanks for your help!

Just a few opinions after the first 1000 miles on my left-over 2013 CB1100: Note that I have owned about 30 bikes of all types over the last 50 years and am now 66 years old and was looking for a bike to ride a bit slower than my Aprilia Tuono V4, which I sold. My riding style is "pretty fast, but no longer Wildman".

I am pretty happy with the CB1100 - it is happy to be ridden moderately on the winding, bumpy back roads that I ride. Throttle response is excellent, it is mechanically very quiet and looks great. Good riding position. Easy to mount accessories. Front brakes excellent, rear brake mediocre. Pretty compliant suspension. Shifts very good up, downshifting is notchy. Seat is better than most sport bikes I owned (see below) but others suggest it can be improved. Handling is pretty good with quick turn-in, which I like. Easy to service - I did 600 mile service myself. Averaging about 50MPG on regular. Tires will last a lot longer than my sport-bikes 3000 miles.

Negatives - a bit buzzy at certain speeds. Mine buzzes the tank a bit at around 3000RPM and 55 MPH - unfortunately a range that is used often. Smooths out at 70MPH. This is not a bike that encourages you to go fast like the Tuono, Speed Triples or Ducatis I have owned. I do miss the hotrod feeling they seemed to ooze and the exhaust sound of the V2 and V4 bikes. Perhaps a slip-on would change that. I have an Arrow in my future. Wish it had 17" wheels for more tire choices.

Overall, my CB1100 is very good, especially for the $7877 I paid for it out the door. It does fulfill my desire to find a bike that works on the backroads I ride on at saner speeds than my previous hot-rod bikes. Did I mention it looks great!

On June 19th, I will participate in my third Solstice Ride. The overall idea is that a person should take advantage of the longest day of the year by being out enjoying every minute of it. We think that it need not be spent on a bike. If boating was your passion, be on a boat. If hiking is your passion...well you get the idea.

The Solstice Ride was conceived by my brother-in-law and has a few simple rules: you must be on your bike at sunrise, on or near your bike all day, on your bike on sunset, and your route should return you to your starting point at the end of the day (avoid using The Ride as the first leg of a longer trip). It does not have to be on the exact date of the solstice, but it needs to be a date close enough that the daylight hours are virtually identical (within seconds) to the solstice. Also, this need not be a riding endurance event. In the past, we covered 400-500 miles over the course of the day....that means lots of off-bike time.

This year, it is possible that I will be violating one of the rules.

If you read my ride report, Tales of the Dragon, you may recall that I took a side trip to Chattanooga to visit my boy-hood friend Kelly who has been suffering with heart issues and diabetes for quite a long time. Kelly passed away yesterday and I intend to ride down to Chattanooga to attend the funeral on 6/21. I may try to combine the Solstice Ride with my first leg of my trip to Chattanooga, thus violating one of the rules...but it's not like I'm going on a vacation trip or something.

Anyhow, I will post a Solstice Ride report in this space once I return. I would love for members of this forum to plan their own Solstice Ride and enjoy the longest day of the year perched on two wheels....don't forget to take pictures!!

I live in CA and in order to bring in a new bike it must meet CA emission regs in addition to Federal.
Can any of you guys that live around the country see if the emission sticker says Federal, 50 State, or California, or any combination.
If I buy a used bike or new, it must meet the standard.
