Picked up my '14 CB1100 Std from LA Cycle Sports last Tuesday. Cruised around SoCal for a couple of days before riding it home to Carmichael (Sacramento), CA. Performed 1st service upon arriving home @ 650 miles. The next day I installed the Honda luggage rack I bought from Webike. $190 delivered to my front door. Installation was easy-fabreezy after reviewing posts on thIs forum.

What a bummer, for a while there we had a real American sport bike. I saw and heard them at the TT last year, pretty magnificent machines.

My CB is now totally legal in the eyes of MA. I got my inspection sticker, yes, every year. Registrations expire in on December 31 and Inspection stickers expire every May.

After being stuck...I headed out the Polpis Road. The Polpis road is Nantucket's version of The Dragon, but only about 7 miles long. I stopped in Sconset (short for Siasconset) which is literally "The End of the World as We Know It". It is the Eastern most point of the United States.

My Suzi dealer just got a Zero franchise - one of the new brands of lithium-ion electric bikes.

Now, I expected these would be a joke. Like the Chinese electric cars...futuristic plastic body over a golf-car frame. Like the Polaris electric mountain bike, which goes 18 miles an hour.

The dealership was offering free demo rides. I was in there getting some minor adjustment on the Turkey Whistle...so, I asked Wyatt, the saleskid, if he'd let me have a ride. After all, I was a paying customer...

Wyatt said, sure. So I got on a Zero DS12.5.

The control on the "throttle" (rheostat, really) was set to ECO. "Don't put it on PWR until you get a feel for it," he warned. "It can rear up and throw you."

Sure.

But I'll make 'em happy...take it easy for a few minutes. I took it out in traffic...and my chin hit the bricks.

In ECO mode, that thing had more pickup than my Burgman 650. ALMOST more than the CB. That thing just TOOK OFF.

I had it up to 60 in no time at all...on a country lane, with a lot of industrial traffic. Let up to turn around...I see it has a REGENERATION feature. Self-braking is almost as much as with the Burgman 650...in other words, a LOT.

Another quick run-up to 60...I hadn't even flipped it to PWR yet. And, of course, it was ghostly quiet - which is a REAL plus to me - and NO vibration. Belt drive, even.

Back to the shop and turn it back in. The thing was perfectly balanced; attractive to look at; solid-feeling. There's no other way to say it: I was astounded.

With a range of 140 miles, that would meet more than half my transportation needs/wants. I'd be buying one now, except that the price on it is $15.5k.

If you're at all curious - OR if you THINK you know about these things - I suggest you take a test ride, if possible.

For anyone who may not be aware, Club 59 is a motorcycle club founded in 1959 in London which has pretty much become synonymous with cafe racers and subculture.

I'm actually looking at joining a new Los Angeles chapter which is starting up here soon.

The Honda wings of course looks just like the one on the tank, only bigger.

Just recently, I ordered the factory repair manual from Helm. Apparently I was not paying close attention or the 2013-2014 book was not listed, so I ordered the 2013 (I have a 2014 Std. cycle). This morning I noticed the part number was not the one that now shows on the Helm website so I called them. A nice gentleman was kind enough to cancel my first order (for the 2013 book) and enter an order for the correct manual for 2014 (61MGC01). I was lucky in that if the first book had been shipped, they were going to charge me a 25% restocking charge and I would have to pay postage to mail the book back to wherever they are located. I was lucky. Those books are not cheap. Hats off to Aaron Stinson at Helm for helping me on this.

It has become apparent to me that, at 42, I'm still one of the "young pups" on this forum.

I just want to hear from the other younger riders on this forum as to why they went with a bike like the CB1100 rather than some sport bike or Harley or other bike most popular with the younger demographic.

For me, personally, I've always had an affinity for all things retro and vintage. The CB1100 just has a timeless beauty. I wanted a good all-around bike that I can ride around town or go on a long trip with, and the CB fits that bill nicely. I don't care if some may consider it an "old fogie" bike.

I dare any 21 year old to look at my bike and tell me it's not a beautiful machine.

Hey All,

Just wanted to share a great ride I had on Sunday. I was supposed to meet up with a couple friends, but they couldn't make it. Happy to get out either way. Headed down to Carmel, CA at 9AM for coffee and a top off. Little chilly in the morning, but my fingers warmed up by 11. Light traffic and mostly courteous motorists heading down. Got to open it up to three digits on the straights passing Point Sur Lighthouse, and push it through some corners. Otherwise it was a nice leisurely roll amidst the normal ambling tourists. All this with a wonderful blues soundtrack playing in the BT headset. The CB is a wonderfully befitting vehicle for the winding road along the Pacific Coast. I couldn't ask for more!
