Can I hear from all 45 and under riders? Why did you pick the CB1100? - Rebel73_imp - 04-14-2015

It has become apparent to me that, at 42, I'm still one of the "young pups" on this forum. Big Grin

I just want to hear from the other younger riders on this forum as to why they went with a bike like the CB1100 rather than some sport bike or Harley or other bike most popular with the younger demographic.

For me, personally, I've always had an affinity for all things retro and vintage. The CB1100 just has a timeless beauty. I wanted a good all-around bike that I can ride around town or go on a long trip with, and the CB fits that bill nicely. I don't care if some may consider it an "old fogie" bike. Big Grin

I dare any 21 year old to look at my bike and tell me it's not a beautiful machine.

I am 38 now, was influenced by my dad who had two 73 cb750'S and a 75 GL1000. that said Ive always seen photos of him on those bikes with my mom on board... always loved the look of the old hondas and naked bikes in general up to this day. Sportbikes are not my cup of tea really... Now my mom loves it when i take her out for a spin on the cb1100 and she always tells me how she wished that my dad was still around.

That's awesome, lola. It's great to have good memories attached to your bike for your mom. We should ride together sometime. I work in DTLA and don't live far from there, either.

Awesome pic!

i am 42.
pretty much agree with the first 2 posts.
its the style of bike (which is considered retro now) that drew me in.
not into sport bikes or large cruisers.
my other ride is a sporty 883R. it is a retro-ish cycle with a nod to the old xr750 with a mostly standard riding position.

Awesome pics, DJS! Quite a flash from the past!

I wasn't really going for the retro thing or trying to relive fond memories of the past when I chose my CB. UJMs were everywhere and nothing special when I was growing up (in all of those horrible 70s colors). What I wanted was a solid, simple, reliable, great looking, and fun to ride on any occasion bike. I'm tired of plastic so the idea was to avoid that as much as possible. I didn't want something that was defined by a certain lifestyle (think HD...How many Harley riders do you see with a set of Dainese leathers and an Arai helmet, both of which I have and love). I didn't want a huge bike nor a moped. I wanted a bike built to ride sporty (read - not a cruiser) but not a supersport or a hooligan special. I wanted a bike that was not going to be a service nightmare and cost me a fortune just trying to keep it on the street. Just to be clear, I don't have anything against HD, new electronics, Italian exotics, or plastic, they just weren't what I was looking for.

To me UJM is the way a motorcycle is supposed to look. I have owned 4 motorcycles in my 20+ years or ridding. A 1975 CB500T, 2 1993 750 nighthawks and my 2013 CB1100. It fits what I think a motorcycle should be (and it fit in my PACKED garage...lol) and it's fuel injected. I have been waiting for a good fuel injected bike that wasn't a sport bike or a chopper wannabe for years and this fit the bill perfectly.

Novice and Randy B, may I ask your ages?

I know that, at 48, I'm technically out of the age range you specified but hopefully still "within the margin of error". Tongue

I can still relate to the younger crowd, though, if only because when the first CBs appeared in 1969 and then throughout the 70's, I was too young to ride or own one but, nevertheless, it was the motorcycle "look" that I grew up with. All of those formative years were spent daydreaming about riding a motorcycle that looks, not coincidently, like the one I now have in my garage!

While researching this bike I read something on the World Honda CB1100 page that pretty much sums up everything I feel about this bike and why it is so appealing to me.

"Although it offers a sporty ride, the CB1100 is not a sport bike. It's a great motorcycle to take on a tour, but it's not a tourer or a cruiser. Despite how good it feels to zip around town on the CB1100, it's not a street bike, either. Focused only on the elements that make a motorcycle a motorcycle, we built the CB1100 on the origins of Honda's motorcycles and polished it to perfection. The result is an archetypal "cool bike." (My underlining)

I know that sounds like just some marketing hype to some folks but it pretty much sums it up for me.

35 now, was 33 when I bought it. Can't really pinpoint why I chose the CB. Was cross-shopping the Ducati Hypermotard and Kawi Versys, along with maybe the Yamaha FZ-8 and Triumph Street Triple. (I have no idea where my mind was heading with that mix). But then I saw it.

I still like the Hypermotard and Versys, and I'd like to own a bike like that someday. But the CB just made sense for what I wanted right now. It's cheap to insure, easy to ride, relatively comfortable, easygoing, and it's a gorgeous-looking Honda. I still wish I had a 6spd, but no other complaints.

Lastly, I did see a new 2014 for $8,400 bucks today. They'd probably take 8 for it, and that's only $1100 more than what I currently owe on my 2013, which I picked up for $10,200 originally.......

Hmmm...still not a huge fan of the black.
