 Turn lights would not work
#1
2013 CB 1100.
This morning riding to work I realized that turn lights would not work . none of them , but all work when use Hazard.
It is either from switch on handle bar or a fuse some where.
I washed the bike last week and may have let water shower on the bike.
Also the handle bar switches for turn lights are a little rough to move , should I just wait for water inside to evaporate? or use WD 40 ? or open it and clean it? what to use after cleaning?
is there a Fuse box just for turn lights without effecting the hazard lights?
Thank you

Hey Ennsync:

If you suspect water and cannot wait, consider carefully blowing some air pressure in and around suspect areas. This could be from a shop/vac blower, or many use compressed air.

Thank you , I will try that , what else should be checked?

Ennsync, check if the clock is still on time and running, the instrument cluster and indicator system are supplied from the same fuse that is not switched by the ignition key, it is on all the time to supply the clock and hazard flashers if needed with the ignition key removed, the fuse is named " turn clock" in the fuse box.

If it's just the indicators the switch in the handlebars needs checking and/or the connector from the left handlebars inside the headlight bucket may have a poor connection somehow, i would verify the connector first.

The indicator system relay is located buried under the fuel tank, a bit of a job to get to it and not likely the cause.

You don't have after market indicators that could have caused a fault do you?

I use the same lubricant i have for the chain, sticky and not runny to keep the switch running smooth, same for all key locks on the bike from time to time.

Thank you , I will lubricate it the same way , clock and every thing other than turn lights work. cluster works, high and low beem , pass switch , horn, just the turn switch is a little rough.
Do you recommend to open the screws to lubricate? if yes , is there any order to it?
Thank you

Would just use a spraycan and lightly oil through the slot for the switch, you are trying to lubricate the mechanical bits.

Only open up if all else fails, it has very short wires and is a bit disappointing inside.

Much easyer to open the headlight bucket and verify the switch wires working.

The connector is a 6 pole ( grey? ) connector and the wire colors are grey (common) orange (left) and light blue (right).
If you don't have a multimeter to verify try a short piece of wire and connect; grey/orange or grey/lblue, that should work to get the indicators going with the key on

Updates.
So I was lucky enough to get in to the motorcycle shop close to my place right before they closed for new year eve and they had "electrical contact cleaner spray can" for which i paid $6.99 and applied it right when i got home ,just after 2-3 times of playing with turn switches, it worked , it was like a magic.
I want to thank you all for your inputs and supports.

Glad it worked out.

Just to be clear, you sprayed electrical contact cleaner in the slot for your turn signal switch and it freed it up and became easy to use? You did not take the switch apart and clean the contacts?

That sounds about correct. That's great Ennsync.

Yesterday the home push button stopped working on my Samsung Galaxy and I did exactly the same thing: Used electrical contact cleaner around the push button (phone turned off), let it sink in real good, pushed the button a few times, and then air dry with a bit of pressurized air. Bingo! Working home push button.
