This question has been asked before in the UK and the best anyone could offer was 'City Bike' but I think that was a guess rather than fact. Any ideas?

I had reflective rim tape on my last bike and liked it. I'm trying to think of ways to add some red to the black CB without over doing it, simply because want a little more color to go with the tank stripes and I also wear a red/black helmet.

Does anyone have pics of a black CB11 with rim tape? Opinions on the idea?

So I've only been on the bike a total of 45 minutes, but I've been 'checking in' on it every hour or so since. Based on my ride and my idle staring at it, I've come to the realization that Honda is just one of those companies that makes products for the fans and not the critics. The CB11 gets panned by pro and amateur critics for being worse than a '90s nighthawk in a straight out drag, less horse power than 'this,' and far heavier than 'that,' but I doubt many of these people have loved the pure riding experience on an old CB. This bike is about the joy of riding. It has plenty of power and ergos to do just that.

After finding things like the clever little locking helmet hook (my 71 CB750 was pre any helmet hooks), the even-lighting of the gauges, the smooth ball joints on the mirrors, it hit me. The CB1100 is doing for the UJM fans what the CB750 did for motorcyclists in 1969; it's making the machine more refined and easier to just get on and enjoy without as much wrenching. Maybe these are pointless ruminations, but my FZ07 is a hot selling bike and after riding both the CB and FZ in the same day, I'd take the CB any day, hands down.

The details, the finish, build quality, and just overall feel and experience is worlds above. Going 70 on the FZ felt slightly terrifying as if I would be blown off or sideways or just snap the handlebars, and stopping had to be gradual or else I'd flip end over end as the sloppy suspension collapsed forward. Conversely, everything about the CB is smooth and refined. Acceleration, engine braking and downshifting, braking, just riding at 70+, it all felt qualitatively 'better.'

I'd be interested in hearing the little things others have noticed about our bikes that endears the CB11 to you!

I noted in earlier posts that I have Comet 2 fairing coming. I did a lot of research here on the forum before deciding on the Comet 2. One thing I noted was that several forum members chose to paint the inside of their Comet fairings black or some other color because they didn't like the rough fiber glass finish that these fairings come with on the inside.

After looking at a few pictures in some of the Comet fairing posts here on the forum, I am starting to wonder, if it was very difficult to tape off the inside of the fairing prior to spray painting the inside of the fairing. Any tips on taping it off? Or, did anyone just brush paint the inside?

Any advice on painting the inside of the Comet fairing would be greatly appreciated and thanks very much in advance.

When you top it off, how do you go about it?

Knowing when I purchased the SW Motech bars, they would be too large in diameter for my 1" Kury clamps. So, off I go to eBay and found a deal at $20.46 with free shipping for 1 1/8" clamps. I even made some slims and had them in place waiting on the clamps to arrive. Well, my package came today (finally) and there was just one clamp. I called the vendor to see where the other one was and was told "They only come as one per package." DUH! I should have paid closer attention to the wording of the ebay ad. The lady in control offered me a discount on the 2nd clamp and said she would have it shipped UPS from a distributor's warehouse and I would probably have it by Thursday. Of course, the promised tracking number has not arrived yet, naturally. By the time I hung up she was probably saying "Roger Who?"

I got home from work at 3:15 pm, ran in and got my gear. Got the CTX out of the shed. The sales guy was there 10 minutes later with my new 2014 Honda CB1100.


I will readily admit that I was a Nervous Wreck. The last inline 4 I rode was in 1975: My then new Honda CB550 Four.


To cut this down and not write a novel, the sales guy helped me by spotting the bike as I practiced getting her up on the center stand - another thing I haven't had in years.


Then... he loaded my CTX on his trailer, waved bye.. and off he went.


I muscled the new CB1100 out of the shed, got her turned around and started... and away I went - mouth dry, hands shaking, half expecting disaster to strike at any moment...


Out the driveway, onto the street and down the lane I go.


I rode my first 11 miles - Wow, what an experience! The bike handles amazingly well - easy to ride, stable and SMOOTH. I would say the experience was better than SE* but of course, I'd be lying (lol). But trust me, it was CLOSE.


You will laugh though, I still do, at myself:


The first 1 or 2 miles (in reality, more like 1/16th of a mile) the bike had NO power! Acted like it wasn't getting fuel... Then WHAM! I looked down at my right boot, and ut oh, the dang toe was depressing the rear brake! Ages since I rode a bike with mid controls and I am definitely needing practice.


I immediately started working on my foot position on both sides.. and after I got things arranged somewhat, zoom - that thing got going, smoothly, effortlessly.


Anyway... after 11 or 12 miles I got myself calmed down and began enjoying the ride, the bike and this new experience. Just incredible. Even a bit smoother than the CB550 I had decades ago.


I got home, rolled it into the shed, set the clock, then got that thing up on the center stand without problems.


Sorry for the long note... but I did want to share my "adventure".


I LOVE this motorcycle - I can see 4 - 500 mile days, and without effort.


The motorcycle 'gods' are smiling - Xmas day is predicted to hit 70 degrees (F), so y'all know what I will be doing.

I'm pretty happy with the sound, and the butt dyno is telling me the bike has a bit more oomph to it - not sure how my neighbors are going to feel about me from this day forward though! Luckily if someone complains I can easily throw the dB killer back on...

Since I woke up it's been pouring rain. Might be the first day this month I won't get to ride. So my other bike needs it's oil and filter changed, might as well do that today. Was talking to one of my good riding buddies this morning about what he was doing instead of riding today, and he was basically doing the same to his bike on this rainy day.

He says "are you going to warm up the bike before draining the oil?"

I said "I always do, don't you?"

He says "nope, the last time I rode it the oil was warm and when I parked it, all the warm oil drained down into the sump".

I said "yea?" questioningly, like, where are you going with this?

He says "well, if you start it again you are just going to push dirty oil from the sump up into the top of the motor again, where it has to drain back down, so you can drain it from the sump".

I said "That's true, but won't it drain faster from the sump when it's warm?"

He says "Ever open a bottle of oil that's been sitting in your garage for a few weeks?"

I said "yea?" again wondering where he's going with this

He says "did you have any trouble pouring it out of the bottle?"

Hmm now he's got me pondering. Since I was a little kid I was told to heat up oil before draining it, but he's got me thinking now. All the dirty oil did drain down when I last came in from riding and parked the bike I have to assume. Do I really want to push that dirty oil back up into the top of my engine now?

Oil might not get changed until tomorrow. I have to work this out in my head. He may have a point.

Now to my questions:

On the forum, we have tried to cover the history of this model, which I have tried to research and document. (See link below)

But several questions constantly come up, which I cannot answer or find the answer to.

The first is numbers of CB1100’s produced by year and model …. 2010,2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, std, EX, Dlx, Japanese Special Edition etc. ?

The second is, have sales of the CB1100 met Honda’s expectations?

The third is, how are vin numbers assigned, as in our registry we have bikes with duplicate last 4 digits from various countries, years and models (see link below)?

and of course fourth is, are there going to be any 2016 CB1100’s, or other iterations produced as per the concept vehicles shown at recent shows?

Wonder if you could answer any of these questions for me, or direct me to someone who could?
