I'm back from South Beach Miami. I had a wonderful time, ate too much wonderful food and saw lots of cool stuff at the show. They say a picture is a thousand words so here we go (with a few words too)

Hans was relentless! It was his first time flying. The excitement of heading to "North Cuba" and our nervousness about missing our flight woke us up every thirty minutes the morning of our flight.


A mere 120 minute flight transports you to another world from my home in Chester, VA:



It didn't take long to see countless exotics including this terribly gaudy, chrome plated, Lamborghini! New money is so tasteless! LOL!


Every single meal was Cuban food! We had to detox upon our return!


The rice and milk pudding took me back to my childhood. It tasted just like my mothers!


We also enjoyed a few fresh pastries and returned with a box full for the family and a couple of loaves of Cuban bread...it was all destroyed within 48 hours.

and this every couple of blocks, a friend who was supposed to come along with me called. He was sick in bed with the flu, with fever and body aches...I felt bad for him.


Okay...we're here for bikes! The show was smaller than expected, much smaller than the one in NYC. I was frustrated that Honda and Triumph failed to show up as I really wanted to see the New Africa Twin, the CB500F and the new Bonneville. (Disclaimer: I took very few pictures at the show, some of the images were liberated with the help of Google)

I really wanted sit on the new Scramblers, they are in fact petite and light however the controls felt ridiculously cheap and built to a sub par price point. These seem like they could be a ton of fun!



The New Ducati should steal some GS sales for those mainly sticking to pavement. However, they were playing a film which showed some madman launching the bike over jumps in the dirt like it was a MX bike!):


The 44 HP, 306 pound KTM 390 Duke has had me infatuated since it came out...all for a mere $4999.



I was very, very impressed with the build quality of all the Indian motorcycles. A new Scout or Chief would be in my garage if I won the lotto...It was nice to see Harley and Indian competing for the prettiest models too! WOW! Sorry but I have no pictures to share...I didn't want to seem like a dirty old man taking their pictures!

In 1999, Oklahoma City hosted its last Grand National 1/2 mile flattrack race. The racetrack at the fairgrounds was torn down and no more pro AMA flattrack for us.

Well, forward to 2016. The AMA is coming back in the form of a mile flattrack at the horse race track at Remington Park.

It will be called the OKCmile and I, for one, am very excited. I've already purchased my tickets.

I really miss this event as we all grew up attending and racing in flattrack back in the 60s and 70s.

I think I got that right

Just installed this LED headlight. It was a little tough to fit it in the headlight bucket with the heatsink and the external driver but I managed to get it in there. First impression is wow, much brighter and more intense white light, even more so than my high end bicycle LED headlight.

There is still a sharp cutoff as was with the old bulb, although this seems to shoot light up higher on low beam. I moved it behind a car in my garage and it didn't seem to go much higher than the back window so I think it will be ok and not blind others. Other reviews have said it was too low and needed to be adjusted so I'll have to see on my ride in to work tomorrow morning. Luckily most of my ride is in the city with plenty of ambient light so even if the adjustment is off it won't be dangerous. I should add that although it looks blinding in these photos, it's really not. The garage is fairly dark so the phone's exposure was long.

Flash to pass still does work FYI, I saw on a forum someone mentioned it didn't on their Yamaha.

Just a heads up. I was in a local dealer yesterday. There was a red 2013, CB1100 Standard for sale at the Honda/Suzuki dealer in San Jose, California. It is on consignment and looks pretty stock. It only has 300 miles on the odometer. He is asking $8,500 but there should be quite a bit of wiggle room at that price. It has been there for a couple of months. Just wanted to give some relief from my boring "ride reports" - the "fourth report" will be my last.

This turned up today...

Fourth ride this morning... 62.5 miles, total on the clock; 332.

Anyone else have the two inside cylinders look like they're running too lean? Am I being paranoid?
