Looking for opinions: I have purchased a 2014 Dlx and the previous owner installed a cafe-style custom seat on the bike. Unfortunately, he sold the stock seat. I am 6' tall and the very low seat height and seating position restriction of the seat just will not work. I've been reading through the threads to gain some insight on seating options. I have narrowed my choice of replacement to two; 1) a stock honda original equipment seat or 2) a K and H Custom seat made to order with the "Hi" profile and adjusted foam for my weight. Prices around $390 and $650, respectively. I am concerned about optimal comfort and resale value in the long run, not one over the other, just concerns.

Love the bike otherwise. All comments and suggestion welcomed.

Fred Flintsone had two things in common with me. He was a cheap SOB with really wide feet.

I've found it really difficult to find comfortable wide boots for my EEEE feet. My Tourmaster Epic boots came in Extra Wide sizes, and mine have been wearing well for the past few years, but I figured I should have a backup pair when I need them. Unfortunately, the Epic was discontinued, and other Tourmaster extra wides are out of stock in my size with the online and real stores I've looked at.

Found these on Ebay for cheap. The Echo model must not have sold well, as they are at blow-out prices pretty much everywhere. Got mine today and am wearing them around the office to break them in. Pretty darn comfortable. Not real leather, but some sort of synthetic waterproof material. There's a flexible paint coating on the ribbed trim bits on the front and back that seems to flake off, but I'll just paint those parts with Plasti-Dip or flex paint if it bugs me enough.

Just ordered a set of the Cooper/Avon Spirit ST tires (110/80-18 & 160/60-18) for my 2014DX from Dennis Kirk and noticed that these tires are in back-order status at most sources. Evidently Good Year bought Cooper/Avon and moved the Avon mfg plant from Brittan to mainland Europe where the Spirit ST model is supposed to be continued. Two weeks ago I contacted Good Year USA to find out when the mfg process would start up again but they just forwarded my inquiry to "someone" that would get back to me ... sounds ominous. Hope the Avon Spirit ST lives on in the future .. these tires had the great performance and longevity of the discontinued Michelin Road 3 tires that I loved so much.

Hello, the time has come to replace the Pirelli sport demons on my '13.
I have read a bunch of threads but can't seem to find info on these tires anywhere, does anyone know how they ride?

Are they only good for looks?
A set can be found for around 270€.

If it helps I usually ride alone but am on the heavy side, I'd say over 125kg dressed (should've got a lighter helmet ) and I don't use the bike to commute nor on long highway rides and I don't like going fast (my partner has a small sr400 so I couldn't go fast even if I wanted.

The FJR1300 got new shoes (Dunlop Road Smart 3's) last Friday as the old Bridgestone's were so thin on the rear, I could deform the center tread with my thumb. I finished up doing the semiannual maintenance and since we had a nice 47 degree day, I thought I would take it out and wear off the casting slime as I have done with many new tires in the past.

Well, I got to the first corner on my street and was going just a little faster than walking speed under no throttle and... WHOOSH. Rear tire slid out and for the first time since I started riding street bikes at 18, I went down.

It was so incredibly fast that I don't even remember the bike falling. One second I was barely even leaned while turning, a split second later I was sliding on asphalt. There seemed like no transition at all. I only slid about ten feet, but that's about ten feet more than I wanted to slide. Thankfully I had T-Rex bars which took the entirety of the fall and slide. They left a nice radius gouge in the road as the bike and I came to a stop.

Looks like I am going to need new highway pegs, perhaps a puck and luggage bar slider as well. All in all the bike is no worse for the wear.


The part I am really upset about is my new jacket that I scored an incredible close-out deal on for $550. The leather tore in two spots and it looks like the fabric has a hole in it now that has gone through the GoreTex layers inside. I have no idea if it can be repaired to be waterproof again.



When I was sliding, I put my left hand down and my hand slid several feet. I was wearing my new Warm & Safe heated gloves and I can't even tell other than the tiniest nick in the ulnar pad on the outside of the wrist. My Forma short adventure boots also held up very well. Just a little scuff on the leather on the outside of the left boot and a bit of wear on the ankle pad. My Aerostich AD-1's just look dirty. No abrasions at all.

I had actually commented to the shop tech while he was mounting my tires that it seemed like there was a lot of release agent on them. He agreed and said it was more than he has seen for a while and to be really careful. I agreed and even toyed with the idea of running some sand paper over the tires to try and scuff it off a bit. Ego won in the end though as I have done this many times before without incident, until now. My wife was just glad the gear did what it was designed to do. She tried to get me to put the bike away, but like they say, when you fall off a horse...

Summary: 47 degrees, a small incident, 38 extremely ginger miles.

I'm used to helmets with anti-fog coatings on the inside of the visors. But, I just bought two helmets from a european supplier, and neither has this coating. One of them included a Pinlock insert, which I haven't installed yet.

Fogging is a rather minor annoyance here in Southern California, and only this time of year when the weather is chilly, and when I'm stopped or moving very slowly, so I haven't been expedient in putting the insert in my helmet.

I've been reading about Pinlock inserts to get up to speed on them. The advice I've read is that they're for daytime use only. Since half of my riding this time of year is at night coming home, I don't need any problems seeing where I'm going.

For those of you who use them, do you have any trouble at night? And, if they are removed from the shield, do they leave any residue on the shield or damage it in any way, or destroy the Pinlock in the process?

Also, being a very cheap person, I'm seeing universal-fit anti-fog inserts on Amazon with good ratings. For the helmet that didn't include a Pinlock, looking at this as well. Anyone use one from Amazon?

I decided it was time to improve the decidedly nasty oem plastic tool case that came with my CB, and to put some better tools in it. Having recently spent a day doing a leatherworking course, leather was the obvious choice. The first photo shows 2 cases that fit in the cavity under the seat. The small, darker case is for my fitted earplugs and lives in my jacket pocket.
The second photo shows the lower tool case in situ on the bike and the third photo shows both cases in place before the seat is reattached.

In the past, I have made my own custom-fit GoPro chin mounts for my helmets by using JB Water Weld putty pressed into the front of the helmet to get a custom fit. The standard flat or curved camera mount plates won't securely attach to the chin of a helmet that has a highly sculptured surface.

I've made a few so far and each time, I figured that someday someone would make it easy by just offering 3D-printed camera mounts custom fit to different helmets that you could order from a website. I just got my new Scorpion 491 from Chromeburner, and it has quite a complicated chin shape.

Well, http://www.chinmounts.com has come along and answered that need, making it easy to just order custom-fitted camera mounts.

But... they cost $35 a piece, and I have a stack of flat camera mounts and plenty of JB Water Weld in my tool box.
