Avon Tires availability - bflint - 01-30-2024

Just ordered a set of the Cooper/Avon Spirit ST tires (110/80-18 & 160/60-18) for my 2014DX from Dennis Kirk and noticed that these tires are in back-order status at most sources. Evidently Good Year bought Cooper/Avon and moved the Avon mfg plant from Brittan to mainland Europe where the Spirit ST model is supposed to be continued. Two weeks ago I contacted Good Year USA to find out when the mfg process would start up again but they just forwarded my inquiry to "someone" that would get back to me ... sounds ominous. Hope the Avon Spirit ST lives on in the future .. these tires had the great performance and longevity of the discontinued Michelin Road 3 tires that I loved so much.

Yeah, Bflint, I hope Avon's availability issues aren't long-term. When my Enfield's tires are gone, I was hoping to swap to Avon Roadriders, which are very long-wearing on my Triumph.

My company does business with the growing conglomerate that is Goodyear/Mickey Thompson/Avon, and it's hard to get a hold of people over there.

Been doing a little investigation. Nova Motorsports has bought the assets and intellectual rights to Avon Tyres. Expected availability of tires in the second half of 2024, per the parent Nova website. FYI

RE: Avon Tires availability - misterprofessionality - 03-05-2024

I was notified by a couple of different parties over the course of the last year that I would no longer be able to reliably find the Avon spirit ST tires I've been using, which is what caused me to try out the Bridgestone T32. The last pair of Avons I got had a somewhat borderline manufacture date on them, so do check that date when you get the tires.

Another anecdote is duh! (Another user here on the forum) Got a pair of these which were so hopelessly lopsided that he had to do an emergency tire change in the middle of last year's rally! Symptoms of restructuring I suppose. Just be careful with these tires.

It's tragic honestly. I LOVED these tires when I feel rest started using them to replace the OG Michelin pr3

I will need new tires for my 2020 Triumph Speedmaster soon, and trying to source Avon Cobra Chromes, the stock tire . Nobody has them ( 150/80/16 and 130/90/16 . My mechanic suggested metzlers , which I would never use. Any suggestions ?

You would never use Metzelers for your Triumph only or any Metzeler for any bike and why???

RE: Avon Tires availability - Gone in 60 - 03-06-2024

My Triumph came with Metzelers. Seemed ok, till they wore out.
Have run two sets of Avons on that bike since, wondering what to use when I need to replace, if Avons aren't going to be reliable.
Plenty of time to decide.

The new thruxton i'm getting will have Metzelers on it as well. Having ridden on them twice now I will say i had positive feelings about the grip but i know nothing about longevity. Those wheels are 17" though, so once the metzelers come off i'm going full sport. max grip. Probably something like a pirelli diablo. i'm not going to be worried about mileage on that bike at all.

My experience with Metzeler tires have been positive in terms of rideability.

lol - however, it by chance has been the manufacturer of tire that has given me the most flats, all on the rear.

I found the rubber soft 'n' grippy and did not last longer than other mainstream brands of tire.

^^ +1 ^^

I agree that Metzelers don't last long on CB, especially in the rear...but good grip thou, dry and wet!
