  1982 Honda XL250R
Posted by: Jeephoto_imp - 05-03-2016, 07:51 AM - Forum: Other Bikes - Replies (13)

I picked up a sweet "little brother" for my CB1100; a 1982 Honda XL250R. It's in real good condition but will have some cleanup and repair/replace old worn out and rusty items. Everything is there to get it street legal.

As much as I love my CB, I still want to ride and explore dirt and gravel roads and trails. So I searched and found a really good deal from a fellow in Austin.

Examples of CB1100s with a bare metal tank look?

[url=http://imgur.com/a/HecOp]I saw this post elsewhere. [url=http://imgur.com/a/0BMp7]Here's another album of the SR400 in question.

I especially like the paintwork on the tank, just clear coat and hand-painted logo on the bare metal (...and the girls). I am reminded of Mr. T's[url=http://www.samurider.com/?p=14557] Fugu tank, but I think I could do all the prep-work on my bike and have it clearcoated locally for a lot less money. Has anyone done something similar with their CB?

Hauled bike out of storage wont start.
Posted by: Oboro_imp - 05-01-2016, 11:19 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (34)

Seems like the bike isnt getting fuel. Its getting spark, plugs look good, the starter is going, the fuel pump primes when I turn the key, intake looks good, all the fuses tested fine and the pump and ignition relays, full charge on the battery, I am hoping I missed something stupid. All I can think of now are the injectors or ECU. I washed the bike, stored it along with my other bike and here we. Never had any issues with the bike before.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Is the CB1100 a Sportbike? Ask Freddie.
Posted by: Ulvetanna_imp - 05-01-2016, 03:15 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (65)

I found this video on an old thread here. No one had posted to it since 2013.

I think since we have had some commentary regarding when and how to shift, and it appears the sentiment here may be leaning too much toward the lugubrious and not nearly enough to the lascivious, I would repost Mr. Spencer's riding demonstration here once again.

Note the fork compression at 1:22. An expert control input.

Shell Rotella Snythetic 5w40 oil in CB1100
Posted by: capttwb136_imp - 04-30-2016, 11:18 PM - Forum: Mechanical & Technical - Replies (38)

First of all I'm not trying to start another never ending oil thread. When I bought a Yamaha Star Warrior some years I joined the Star Warrior Forum and read about using Shell Rotella synthetic in the Warrior. Everyone seemed to agree it was a great oil for the Warrior. So I used it exclusively in the Warrior. Never had any problems or strange noises.

When I changed the break in oil on the CB1100, I had 4 qts of Suzuki 10w40 laying around and used them in the CB. I've only put about a thousand miles on it since, have had no weird noises, but read on this forum about the dangers of using 10w40 conventional oil. So I thought it prudent to put 10w30 in it.

I live in a rural area far from MC dealers and went online to order some 10w30 motorcycle oil. I discovered it isn't easy to find 10w30 motorcycle oils. Anyway I was wondering if anyone ran Shell 5w40 in their CB. If you do, do you hear those dreaded noises some guys talk about?

Having owned more than a few bikes in my time I've read quite a few oil threads and quite a lot of info about motorcycle oils. So I know 10w40 oill breaks down to 10w25 in about 1500 miles, and was just wondering what you guys thought about using Shell Rotella synthetic 5w40? It's made for diesel engines and is safe for wet clutches on motorcycles.

Walmart sells Shell Rotella and there is a Walmart ten miles from home. Any thoughts?

  Bike Night in Blackshear
Posted by: redbirds_imp - 04-30-2016, 01:46 AM - Forum: Motorcycling - General - Replies (4)

Last Friday of the month is Bike Night at our church. Everyone is invited and free hot dogs, hamburgers, desserts, cold drinks and plenty of sides are on the serving tables.

This started out small but has really grown the last few months. Last night after the meal, we had a short video on safe motorcycle control and maneuvering at low speed. A course was set up in the parking area with traffic cones and we all took turns running our bikes through the course. Many found their skills lacking and were surprised that it was harder than it looked. A couple of fellows, one on an Indian and another on a Road King made it look easy as they weaved through time and again without hitting a cone or missing a turn. I think everyone learned from this exercise plus there was a gift for the one judged best.

It was a fun evening.
